Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

When you stay with Bella Vista you know what to expect and whilst there are subtle nuances that define difference locations, the experience is fundamentally the same. The motel is in a quiet location slightly away from the lake and town centre, but only a 5 to 10 minute walk to both. We stayed in a Queen Studio, which is the next step up from the Compact Queen Studio. There was plenty of room for our suitcases and a large desk area and bathroom. All other aspects were what you would expect from Bella Vista. Immaculately presented and maintained, set in a lovely garden. The host Michael Liang is excellent. He was very helpful to me at the time of my booking and on meeting him, he proved to be an attentive and professional host. Te Anau is a beautiful place and for us it was made all the better by the quality of the accommodation. We would recommend it to family and friends and definitely stay there again.

Location is fantastic, just a small stroll across the park to the main road. Rooms comfortable and clean, if a little dated, bar fridge and microwave. Upon arrival our room wasn t ready but the gentleman at the front desk was lovely letting us put food in his fridge. Upon checking in, the lady was extremely rude, unhelpful and generally this hotels worse asset. We enquired about the continental breakfast but we were informed u had to order 24 hours before. No mention on the Webb site and how one orders the day before u check in, without realising u had to, is beyond us. The breakfast price was $20 which is ludicrous for what was offered. After such a warm welcome to be so rudely addressed was disappointing.

Stayed the night before and night after doing the Kepler. Didn't expect much (just need a place to rest our heads) but the lady at the desk went out of her way to assist us, offer advice, and even adjust our post-track transport. She is an absolute asset to the hotel! Only compliant was the whole bathroom became wet when having a shower. Otherwise, everything one needs in a motel!

Excellent place to stay in Te Anau. Ticked all the boxes. We travel a lot so am fussy. Warm, comfortable beds with electric blankets. Great heater in the room (we were there in the middle of winter). Fantastic shower. Very clean. Easy walk to town. Quiet location. Welcoming friendly host with lots of good suggestions. Could not fault this place at all. Highly recommend. Of course everyone will be going to Milford from here but a visit to the glow worm cave was a surprisingly good trip. Really enjoyed that.

We arrived today after having terrible experiences with all Bella Vista Motels so far in New Zealand. We were greeted with a very knowledgeable owner who told us all the attractions nearby. The room is immaculate and very clean which is a surprise for all these motels so far. The other pleasant surprise was the motel is not on a main highway.

Clean and equipped well with very friendly staff. Good position in town making it easy to find. Just a short walk from the Te Anau lake. Making it great for an evening walk. Good hot water in the bathroom and plenty of towels also shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. As the only town between here and Milford Sound it can get very busy even in early spring

I stayed here for about a week over late December 2021 and early January 2022. New Zealand was still largely closed to international tourists due to COVID-19 border restrictions and a number of accomodation providers were't open. There was good availability with accomodation providers that were open. Te Anau was busy without being crowded, very pleasant. In many ways the Bella Vista Motel is a delightful place to stay. The owners are friendly, welcoming and helpful. It's only five minutes walk from the town which has a good supermarket and some excellent cafes, restaurants and food caravans. The bed was incredibly luxurious with a comfortable mattress and 5 star hotel quality sheets and linen. However, the room was small. There wasn't a lot of additional space apart from the bed. One of the reasons I choose a motel rather than a hotel was because of cooking facilities. Most motel units have a kitchen or kitchenette. The Bella Vista has different kinds of rooms, some with full kitchen facilities and others with more limited cooking options, and their online reservation system did specify these. Moreover, due to browser issues I found booking online to be quite complicated. When I checked into my room I found that the kitchen facilities were extremely limited, almost non existent. I could make coffee and tea and prepare toast in the morning on the extremely small bench space and that was it. There might have been a microwave, but I don't use microwaves so it wasn't an option. I ended up getting most of my meals for dinner at the amazing Bao Now caravan, some of the best street food I've ever had anywhere. The kitchenette area, a small bench above a fridge also did not have its own tap, water or sink. I had to get water and wash dishes in the bathroom sink, just along from the toilet, which wasn't particularly pleasant. The other aspect about the rooms were that, at least surrounding the room I was staying in, there was virtually no soundproofing. I could hear almost everything in other rooms - conversations (even when people were speaking quietly), television, showers and flushing toilets. This was not generally a problem as fellow guests were quiet and respectful and lights seemed to be out by 10pm. The limited soundproofing (at least in the room I was staying in) didn't cause any major problems sleeping, but it could if the rooms were occupied by guests who like to stay up late. Generally the lack of full kitchen facilities, small room size and limited soundproofing didn't cause any problems as I was out everyday hiking, cycling, and going on float plane and helicopter trips. However, when staying for a reasonable amount of time in a place (such as a week) I sometimes like to have a break mid-week and relax for a day where I'm staying. This wasn't really that possible here. Admittedly I did get the smallest and cheapest room. I would have paid more for a larger room with full kitchen facilities (these are available) but they were booked-out when I made my reservation. The room I had would have been fine for a night (and many guests were just staying for a night and then travelling on the next day, the motel seemed to be very popular with people on road trips or driving holidays), but if staying for more than a night I would recommend booking a much larger room with full kitchen facilities if that is important to you. Overall this is a convenient, clean and comfortable place to stay with friendly, professional and welcoming owners.

Response from Bella Vista Te Anau, General Manager at Bella Vista Motel Te Anau
Responded 29 Oct 2022
Thanks so much for taking the time to leave your comments :) We're so pleased you found your stay in Te Anau enjoyable and also thank you for your mention of our town and our hospitality. Thank you for bringing the soundproofing to our attention, we can only find one out of thousand of reviews online with the topic of soundproofing - our room is very soundproof. There are concrete filled 250mm Superform EPS Block Walls between each room - modern standards of a hotel-motel building in fire prevention and safety, for sure soundproof. We believe that you can hear other rooms through the opened windows which are happening quite often during the day in the summertime. There is a "Quiet Enjoyment Policy" to ensure the highest level of guest satisfaction for all guests utilising our motel. We agree that the Compact Queen Studio that you booked is a small room as it tells "compact", but our guests always say there is everything that they may need in the Compact Queen Studio, we have to disagree that "kitchen facilities were extremely limited" and "extremely small bench space" the online photos can tell the kitchen facilities and our bench size is W100cm*D60cm in Compact Queen Studio. There is a guest BBQ garden which is very popular in summer, sometimes we can see our guests from different rooms cook together and share their happiness! Overall we would encourage our guests to book early for the busy season of NOV-APR and book direct for Our Best Price Guarantee:) Thanks again,

Michael is running a fantastic clean motel. We stayed for a few nights whist exploring Fiordland. If you need a little more space I'd suggest taking the family units. Great easy walk to town. Warm and cozy in Winter Michael will take good care of you.

Lovely hosts running a well presented clean motel. Nice outdoor seating available too, and laundry facilities with a clothes line. Something that you really appreciate when travelling light on a motorcycle. Stayed 2 nights here. Recommended accommodation in Te Anau, walking distance to pub and restaurants. Took the Lake cruise via bus from Te Anau, that was also a, great thing to do while there. Beautiful scenery.
