Very nice hotel and extremely convenient. I highly recommend this hotel to couples and families with little kids. I had an upset baby and the room was so calming for her. The room was prepared nicely and all warmed up for us. Amazing staff and great amenities. Even the price was very good.

We stayed two nights whilst exploring Milford Sound and before heading out on the Kepler Track. Great location, lovely room and great advice from Mary which helped us get the most out of our trip. Wish we could have stayed longer! We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back when we head down for other Great Walks (and hopefully some other adventures). Highly recommend this property and it’s lovely owners.

We stayed here a couple nights and it was tidy and comfortable. Nice to be able to watch telly in bed.. comfortable bed and pillows. Was a very good price. Mum and son team were accommodating and friendly.. as we just turned up with no previous warning. Has a cool playground for kids and nice grounds.. would be suitable for families. We had the garden view. Only downside was how hot it got at night and had to have window and door open.

I was really happy to be welcomed by Nigel. He treated me with respect and had a bit of a laugh. He spent time explaining about Te Anau and all the activities available for my family. And Mary, when I spoke to her initially over the phone, she was friendly and patient with all my questions I had. I made a booking there and then. The room was very clean and really spacious. It had all the facilities I needed for my family. It even had a balcony which was really nice. The place in general was very clean and the sheets were spotless. And their staff were really friendly and polite and they stopped to chat. Even if they looked busy they had time for their customers. Felt welcomed and appreciated. Not something you come across often sadly. Will not hesitate to come back in winter and stay here again. Without question.

Helpful staff in the office. Our unit was spacious, clean and comfortable. We were upstairs, overlooking attractive and well maintained gardens. The property is a short walk across a park to the main street of Te Anau, so very handy for restaurants and shops. We can recommend and would stay here again.

We had the pleasure of staying four nights at the Explorer. It is a very comfortable and well appointed facility. It has most things you need but no cooking facilities. This isn’t a problem because it’s just a five minute walk to the town centre and a variety of eating establishments. We appreciated the laundry after four days tramping. The staff are super welcoming and friendly.

We are about to end our stay in Te Anau and are so happy to have chosen The Explorer as our base while we explore this amazing country of ours. We stayed in one of the motels Apartments- it is very very spacious. The lounge has two comfortable couches and looks out onto a very well kept garden and lawn area. There is also a large t.v. The kitchen has a stove top and microwave, fridge if you want to prepare your own food. Bedrooms (x2) are equally spacious. Bedroom 1 has a queen and a single bed and Bedroom 2 has a queen and two king single beds. The motel is very clean. The motel is a short 4 minute walk to the town centre and lakefront. The hosts are super helpful and great people. This is the perfect place to stay for families, couples at if you’re in Te Anau on business.
