Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We stayed at Twin Oaks for only one night but we were made to feel right at home. The owner spent time making sure we had a lovely visit in Te Anau. We appreciated hearing how her husband and she had developed this comfortable property over the years. We had a delicious, fresh breakfast and spent time outside in their gardens. You must visit when in the area!

Ian and Claire could not have been better hosts. They are very knowledgeable about the area and keen to help you make the most of your day doing what you want to do. It's about a half hour walk along the lakeside to Te Anau or a 5 minute drive. A quiet location, the house is set in wonderful large gardens that are lovingly maintained and a delight to wander around or sit in admiring the view. Our room was spacious, very clean and very comfortable with doors opening directly onto the garden. Breakfasts were delicious and plentiful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and our conversations. We have very happy memories that will stay with us for a long time to come. We have no hesitation in recommending a stay here.

Ian and Claire's B&B was recommended to us by hosts in Wanaka and we stayed with them for 2 nights. Great location; great hospitality; lovely conversations. Only thing that could have made it better is if Ian and I had had time for a golf game just down the road. Ian and Claire even offered to pick us up from town in the evening if we wanted to stroll down for dinner. How is that for service! Sorry it has taken a while to write this review Ian and Claire and many thanks again. Simon and Trudy from Tunbridge Wells

We stayed two nights at Twin Oaks. And we loved it at first sight. I really would like to congrats Ian and Claire for their beautiful place. Garden is particularly lovely, with a lot interesting details. And rooms are just decent. We enjoyed before-bed-time-chatting with our hosts in the beloved living room, Ian and Claire shared with us a lot interesting points about NZ. They are so welcoming and did everything to make our stay more comfortable. It is 3 minutes drive from town centre so if you're diriving it won't be a problem at all. And we did like this small distance as we can then avoid the noise and crowd. Overall it is a decent place and I would like to stay there for sure if visiting Te Anau again.

We stayed for 1 night at Twin Oaks and immediately wished I would have made the reservation for 2. We were welcomed with a very clean, comfortable and quiet room. The hosts are so friendly and invited us in for a chat before we went to dinner. The yard is more like a botanical garden and we sat outside at night drinking a bottle of wine and looking at the stars. The breakfast was 5 star and they even accommodated my gluten/dairy allergy. If you are visiting the Kepler Track area the home is only 2 minutes from the main trailhead. I couldn't have been happier with our stay.

We heard about this B&B from friends and were not disappointed. We used it as our base to tour around the Fiordland area and it was perfect. Our room was beautifully furnished, very clean and tidy, as was the generous en-suite bathroom. Ian and Claire were very welcoming and accommodating, the breakfast was first class. Our room also allowed personal access straight in and out, which was good for early starts or late finishes when we went hiking etc, and meant we could be happily left to our own devices if desired. Beautiful surroundings and grounds added to the ambience. Overall it was our favourite place on our south island tour and outstanding value. We were so happy with it we even left them a bottle of wine to show our appreciation!

My wife and I recently spent two nights at this Bed and Breakfast on the Southern edge of Te Anau. The property is set in lovely park-like grounds very close to the Golf course. The en-suite bedroom is beautifully appointed, having recently been added, and has lovely private facilities, comfortable bed, and Tv. We had met the owners, Ian and Claire Collie previously, when they owned a tourist shop on the lakefront at Te Anau, having been farming before that. They are a delightful couple, enjoyable company, understand tourist needs, and have a wide knowledge of the Te Anau area, particularly as Ian has been a part time guide on the Milford Track. Claire provides a beautiful breakfast, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable base in Te Anau.
