The motel is located in an excellent location, close to the Te Anau lake and town centre.
The rooms are beautifully renovated, comfortable, cozy, clean and tidy.
Both Nigel and Fiona are very hospitable, welcoming, and very helpful.

My new wife (of 3 days!) arrived at the Anchorage after researching the local accommodation fully. We chose the Anchorage for its great reviews and also the fabulous looking rooms. On arrival we had been moved into the adjacent 3 bedroomed cottage, which was nothing like what we had hoped for. The cottage was very tired, in fact I wouldn't have stayed there as a backpacker, as there was an odd odour. Eventually the owners wife moved us to a new studio, after much discussion, even though other members of the wedding party were staying there for 2 nights as well. The whole episode left a rather bad taste, and the owners said that they had emailed us 1 month before, to explain they had overbooked. We had received no email before we left, and had only been in New Zealand for 2 weeks. Nice units, very disappointed with the atitude initially of the owners. Would not chose to stay again, as looking at some other reviews, other people have had a similar problem. I have to say that this was the only problem with accommodation in New Zealand in 3 weeks.

Just a short answer - yes we were overbooked and asked these guests about relocating to the cottage via e-mail.- The cottage adjoins the motel and we do not promote as being at the same quality level as the motel. The guests did not answer the e-mail so it was assumed that they were O.K with the transfer. Upon checking in - they were not happy with it and we spent quite a bit of time relocating a couple of other guests so that these guests could stay in two units located within the motel block. They did not have a problem with the standard of accomdation we offered at the motel and this report is not a fair reflection on the motel. The cottage is maintained a a three star plus level however is not at the 4star+ level of the motel and is promotes as such. This is always explained to guests who book it and was explained to them in the e-mail they were sent(address provided with their booking).

I chose this motel based on Tripadvisor's reviews. Clearly, I was wrong to follow the "ratings". So I am here to correct this. I've noticed a few things that are not so perfect as some reviewers seem to think.
I noticed blood stains on the bed sheets which was quite shocking. The bathroom has an odour of some sort, probably due to dampness or lack of cleaning agent. And the toilet cover was broken, please fix it!
Shocking.... and I am surprised they got 4 and 1/2 stars (Qualmark).

We are sorry that the guests did not enjoy their stay with us. Our rooms are cleaned to a hight standard as mentioned in other reviews and apoligise that to these guests that it was not up to their standard. Also regarding the broken toilet seat, we were not awear of this and if it had been brought to the management's attention, it would have been replaced/fixed straigh away. We do not have broken toilet seats left in rooms. As far as the blood stains on sheets - all our laundry is done on site and by myself personally and in ten years, I have never had this. Every sheet is washed/dried/folded and ironed, all of which ensures a high standard. I can assure guests that this has not happened before and am at a loss to explain why the guests found a stain.

Booked by our agent (who only uses Golden Chain) we wished we'd looked for ourselves. Our 2 bedroom unit was very tired, and needs serious refurbishment, though I don't know how they overcome the separate unit at the back which is only feet away and completely overlooked our windows. Not cheap ($165 a night), and not the claimed 4 star (you'd have to be generous to even give 3 stars).

Just a quick response that all these units have been extensively refurbished and I invite the guest to stay next time they are in NZ of to at least come and have a look. While it is a bit tired it was very comfortable and well appointed. After staying in about 6 hotels in the last week we got one of our best sleeps there. The management was really helpful and responsive.

Stayed here just the one night for work. My colleague was booked in across the road at the Kingsgate. Prior to our arrival we both thought she had got the better booking. We we're wrong.
Check-in at the Anchorage was a breeze, very friendly owner. My room was a spacious 2 bedroom with a equally spacious lounge. TV's in every room, underfloor heating in the bathroom. Although the shower pressure was low-ish, the sheer volume of water it released was magnificent! Kitchen was well kitted out with a very large fridge. There is also a large BBQ which can be moved around close to your room if you need.
Room was very close to the road but room was very quiet with zero road noise. Bed was really comfortable with excellent linen and quality pillows. One or two little flaws which stopped me voting for 5 stars but those were so minor they're not worth mentioning.
By contrast, my work colleague's stay across the road was far, far less enjoyable. I would highly recommend the Anchorage to all.

My experience started out by Expedia letting me book a room here after hours when it shouldn't have. There was no one on site and being that I'm from the US but was in New Zealand, was not able to call Expedia to sort it out. While trying to figure out where else I could stay, I get a message from the motel owner who was out of town on business. He said Expedia should not have let me book it but he was going to try and get ahold of someone local to help me. In about 10 minutes a woman drove up and checked me in. She was extremely friendly and did not seem troubled at all even though it was about 10pm by that time. The room itself was shockingly wonderful. The room was very spacious and the bed comfortable. The whole room had great touches which seemed way above the typical motel norm. You can tell the owners care about the customer experience here. It was a bonus it is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, That all said, I would highly recommend this property.

This is minutes away from the lake front and all attractions, is clean and comfortable and, although we didn’t have time to use it, came with a jacuzzi, which was a nice touch. Also had bikes available to borrow for a donation.

Great stay. Very clean, quiet, comfortable bed, nice bathroom with plenty of towels and the same toiletries we’ve seen at 4 / 5 star hotels elsewhere in NZ. Very friendly welcome when we checked in with complimentary milk and a good recommendation for dinner (The Fat Duck). Good selection of teas and coffees and even a couple of cookies. Close to the lake so convenient for any tours you might be doing. Would definitely stay again!

Yes! All the apartments have 4-ring stovetops, fridges, sinks, cutlery, crockery and adequate kitchen tools.
We cooked several meals from scratch while we were there. There is a supermarket about a kilometer away, so you can buy your ingredients easily.
