This place was awesome - loved the wood fired outdoor cedar bath +++++ Under floor heating in the bathroom was a bonus too! Nigel made us feel welcome, the location was handy and everything was clean. Would happily return here

Interesting, most of the hotels on the street start with an "a" this one included. We were here for three nights as a base of operations to visit both the Milford and Doubtful sounds. Room was clean. You park right in front of your door, partly roofed so dry. Good wifi. We had our travel agent book this place and had a unit with a kitchen, as we could then go to the food store and prepare it at the room.

Thanks for your review. All the motel business in Te Anau have been around a while and when they were named, paper directories were the only way a motel could be found - pre-internet days hence everyone wanted to be first in the directory and named their business with a name starting with A.... Just a bit of history. We hope you enjoyed your NZ holiday.

Room was okay, but very worn. Curtains hardly covered the windows for privacy. Hand towel rail fell off the wall every time we used the towel. Loo was wobbly and the tap in the basin spun round! Could do with some love. Ok stay.

We stayed for 2 nights in the 1 bedroom budget accomodation, perfect for the travel to Milford sound. It was the cheapest accommodation we could find, so much was booked out. It was a good choice - away from all the other accomodation it was quiet and the hotels around us seemed to be packed with tourists and buses coming and going. It is older and as they say budget, the stove only seems to go flat out the fridge froze a few of our items and outside lights didn't work. The unit though was very clean had plenty of towels with the heated towel rack on, on arrival. Plenty of toiletries, tea, plunger coffee, hot chocolate fresh milk and cookies. Just a short walk from the lake. We enjoyed spending an afternoon evening walking around the lake and town, happy hour at the pub in the cinemas great beer on tap for $5.50. We thought this was a beautiful spot to stay the town has catered well for tourists without the feeling it is being trampled to death like Lake Tekapo felt.

Hi - thanks for your comments on your stay and also about our area. Te Anau is a great place to escape the rush that some other ares have. The budget unit is older but its price also reflects that so we are pleased that you found it to be comfortable and provider everything that you required. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your holiday.

Hi Layjai - Your comments are fair enough about no hot water as a guest had left a hot water tap on and drained all the hot water - there is over 500 gallons supplying only 5 units of which only three were occupied and as I explained to you after finding out what was the problem, there was nothing we could do about another guest who decided to leave their hot water tap on? We don't know what their logic was in doing this and are sorry that it inconvenienced you. The hot water did re-heat and you did have a very late checkout the next day. We do not have a endless supply of hot water so the mindless actions of another guest did impact on your stay so sincere apologies about this. Please be assured that this is not normal. You may have been annoyed about the inconvenience and quite rightly I would have been also. A big apology from us and we hope that you enjoyed the hot water in the morning.

Stayed at Anchorage motel in February 2014. This is the best motel we've ever stayed, It's quiet, it's clean and great equipment. Just ticked all the boxes. Location itself is 8 minutes walk to town centre or 5 minutes walk to the lake. Staff are friendly, checking in was a breeze, get to check in early even though usually check in time is 2 pm. We only booked for studio room, but it's just enough for 2 of us. Have small pantry with great and sufficient equipment. Bathroom was great, quite spacious and they have heated floor and heated towel rack, a must in South Island i think. Bed is comfortable with heaps of pillows. Have TV and DVD also SkyTV. Oh and great thing is they have free WiFi. Love love love! This is the plus point for us, since we always pay for our internet in every hotel that we stayed in New Zealand no matter in South or North Island. So this is great! Would love to come back to this motel in a heartbeat if we have the chance to come back.

Room 13. Wow. What a high tech hub of a room. Tv in both bedrooms and lounge area. Tablet and free wi-fi. Great after a long drive when 3yo still wants peppa pig and the hubby and wife want peace and quiet. Room was excellent. Location good. Lots of places to eat in town. Watch the weather forecasts as road to Milford Sound not always open.
Would definitely stay again.

Thank you for taking the time to do this review. We are pleased that you enjoyed our innovations in the room and used our tablet with the guest information. This is a new innovation developed by us and we are excited about being able to offer this in room. The weather has not been favorable this spring however it dose make Milford Sound very spectacular and hopefully you will want to cone back in the future and chance some different weather. Thank you for staying. Nigel & Fiona.

We spent about 2 weeks in NZ and stayed in many places during our stay. If one makes a comparison, the motel was equally clean and had decent room size. The only striking difference was the cramped parking space and the attitude of the owner. In all the places that we stayed, the managers/ owners were friendly and warm and themselves offered suggestions about places we could visit/ things we could do but not this one. Even on asking about these things, we were offered almost no information which was helpful (we were told that we could find all the tourist places ourselves as we drive along!).

The hotel unfortunately has no views of the lake but is just a 10 minute walk from the town center.

Thank you for your feedback. All feedback is taken on board - the advice that was offered to you was to enjoy the drive to Milford Sound and that there is lots to see. Every visitor has different things they want to see and there is plenty to see along the way to Milford. Perhaps I misinterperted you in what you wanted to hear however you were offered some advise about the drive and the scenery speaks for itself. What I might see as a good place to take a photo is not necessarily what you might have wanted to see. There are plenty of places where you can stop and they are well marked. It is disappointing that you think you did not get the advice that you wanted however the drive to Milford is something that speaks for itself. Perhaps it was raining when you went - I quite often tell customers that this is the best way to see the area however you may have diagreed with this advice. We do give lots of free advice to our guests and want them to enjoy their Fiordland expierance. If we fell short in your view, then our apology is offered and we hope this did not spoil the rest of your holiday.

Expected this place to be a typical motel. The exterior looks old but the rooms are new. It looks like they refurbished the place. They've done a great job because the room is modern, clean & comfortable and has everything you need. They have free wifi and the shower is really good. Little touches that we noticed was that they heated up the room before we arrived, gave us a bottle of milk instead of the little mini single serves and gave us two extra towels. If you're stopping in Te Anau, you should definitely stay at this place.

We stayed two nights at Te Anu as the jumping off point for a day trip to Doubtful Sound. As we were traveling with our entire family (six of us), a normal hotel wouldn't work. Fortunately, the Anchorage hotel has solved the problem by purchasing a couple houses that adjoin the hotel ground. We were able to rent the 3 bedroom house, and it was perfect. We all had our own bedrooms, and it had a large fully furnished kitchen and a living room that would accomodate us all. Most impprtantly it had laundry facilities so we could keep up with the dirty clothes on a long two week trip. The hotel/house was an eacy 5 minute walk to town, and there are several nice bars and restuarants with good food. The one we liked the best was called the Moose bar, it also had spectacular views over Lake Te Anu. While the three bedroom unit isn't a brand new home, it was well taken care of and the owners have added nice little touches like the toiletries in the bathroom, as well as free Wi-Fi. There were only two shortfalls with the unit, only one of which anything can be done about. First, there is only one bathroom - so you need to make sure people are moving thorugh if everyone wants a shower before leaving for the day. The second shortfall was the lack of a hair dryer, but that's something the Owners could correct in short order should they choose to do so. All in all I would highly recommend this as a reasonably priced place to stay with a family. What a pretty town!

Thank you for staying with us and taking the time to do a review. The three bedroom house has had a upgrade in the last few years and offers the extra space for family groups. It dose only have one bathroom and there is no way around this one unfortually. There is a usually a hair dryer in the bathroom however on this ocassion, it must have been put in some place different where it was not found by the occupants.

Yes! All the apartments have 4-ring stovetops, fridges, sinks, cutlery, crockery and adequate kitchen tools. We cooked several meals from scratch while we were there. There is a supermarket about a kilometer away, so you can buy your ingredients easily.
