Very comfortable and roomy in 1 bedroom apt. Modern decor, comfortable bed & nice bathroom. Kitchen was adequate for our requirements.
Booked by our agent (who only uses Golden Chain) we wished we'd looked for ourselves. Our 2 bedroom unit was very tired, and needs serious refurbishment, though I don't know how they overcome the separate unit at the back which is only feet away and completely overlooked our windows. Not cheap ($165 a night), and not the claimed 4 star (you'd have to be generous to even give 3 stars).
We arrived at Te Anau in driving rain...but the Anchorage Motel was a great base from which to go on our Milford Sound cruise and Glow Worm cave tour. The room was clean, comfortable and had good amenities. The owners were friendly and gave good information and hints/tips that assisted us when we had to make the 2 hr journey to and from Milford Sound. Access to internet and email on site made it easier for us to keep in touch with family and friends.
A small motel complex just one street up from the lake. Very well run with the owners on site. I guess each room might be a little different, but mine came with a kitchenette, jacuzzi and both a front and rear door. When I arrived I was given the choice of either whole milk or low fat to use with my tea or coffee. The premises offer up a guest laundry, several gas barbecues, as well as a trampoline for those with overactive hormones. From my perspective, Te Anau is a far better location for exploring Milford and Doubtful Sounds and the myriad of mountain trails in the area than is Queenstown. This is a small village that shuts down fairly early but has a decent range of eateries and gear shops. Local outfitters can set you up with all you need to explore the region,…
This motel is excellent - clean, well appointed and great value ($80/night). The kitchen is fully equipped, the suites are spacious and bathrooms modern and bright (suspect it has been renovated since the previous reviewer visited). We stayed one night before heading off on a kayaking trip to Doubtful Sound (with Fiordland Sea Kayaks who are only a few doors away) and arranged to come back two days later - Nigel arranged for us to have the private bungalow complete with spa bath. Put simply, its great value and convenient location make it an excellent base.
