The motel was ideally located one street back from the lake - the lack of lack views did not bother me because if I wanted a view I would be outside at the lake and not in my room! The area, which appeared quite residential, was very quiet which was great. Each room had its own parking space and there was street parking if your vehicle was too big.
My room was spacious and had everything I needed - a large comfy bed, a table, two comfy chairs, a kitchenette (microwave, two hobs, fridge, toaster, kettle, ample crockery and cutlery), and a bathroom with shower and spa bath. Good size TV and DVD player (various DVDs freely available from reception). The heating could be controlled easily which meant it was always comfortable in there, whatever the weather was doing.
There were chairs and a table outside both the front and back of my room, so plenty of places to sit if I wanted to stay in. There is also a laundry on site (most welcome!), bicycles for hire in exchange for a donation to charity, a BBQ, and a trampoline on the front lawn.
I found the hosts here to be friendly and helpful and really welcomed the free wi-fi.
Town is a short stroll away where there are the usual collection of souvenir shops, cafes, supermarkets and a post office. There isn't a great deal in the way of shops, but then who comes to Te Anau for its shopping! So many lovely walks around the area, and Milford Sound was under two hours drive (I left at 7am and got there in 1hr45m, including stops, but then I only encountered 5 other vehicles all the way there!). Great time of year to visit the Sound!
Would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone.
We stayed one night before heading off on a kayaking trip to Doubtful Sound (with Fiordland Sea Kayaks who are only a few doors away) and arranged to come back two days later - Nigel arranged for us to have the private bungalow complete with spa bath.
Put simply, its great value and convenient location make it an excellent base.
"Parking spots are tight. If you have a big vehicle (or something on top of your vehicle like a boat) you will have to park on the street."Read full review
