We were disappointed with our stay at Anchorage. We had a 2 bedroom apartment. It was very small & basic. It was clean & tidy but the beds were so uncomfortable we barely got any sleep. It also wasn’t cheap & for the cost I would expect more but this was a very basic motel in my opinion.

Very friendly and helpful staff. We had a really comfortable bed in a spacious room with kitchen and en suite. All rooms have easy parking next to them. The location is nice and quiet, and restaurants and bars in walking distance. Overall great value!

A small motel complex just one street up from the lake. Very well run with the owners on site. I guess each room might be a little different, but mine came with a kitchenette, jacuzzi and both a front and rear door. When I arrived I was given the choice of either whole milk or low fat to use with my tea or coffee. The premises offer up a guest laundry, several gas barbecues, as well as a trampoline for those with overactive hormones. From my perspective, Te Anau is a far better location for exploring Milford and Doubtful Sounds and the myriad of mountain trails in the area than is Queenstown. This is a small village that shuts down fairly early but has a decent range of eateries and gear shops. Local outfitters can set you up with all you need to explore the region, including trailhead return transport. Intercity and Newman's stop in the village center and usually pick up and drop at the motel with advance notice. I suggest you cut some days out of Queenstown and apply them to Te Anau.

I went to te anau to stay for a few days while my partner was on business in Invercargill. i carefully chose my motel on the internet beforehand and it was the ideal choice. single storey units so no noise from above and the walls were so thick there was no noise on either side. It was in the middle of a snowstorm but Te Anau had been spared the worst of it. The unit was spacious with a large bathroom and spa bath and there were full cooking facilites, a heat pump and a heater. The linen was lovely and the bed comfie. I would definitely go back here - only a stroll to the lake and into the village

We spent one night. The room was lovely and a quiet location . The owner, a gentleman, seems quite disinterested and he may have been having a bad day but he wasn't the sort of person I would have thought should be in hospitality. Upon getting to our room we couldn't find the sign with Internet password on it. I called him only to be told it was there earlier on the table. Well it wasn't and I certainly didn't move it, we searched high and low and he couldn't believe it wasn't there. He sent his daughter to the room and she couldn't find it. I then located it under the couch behind the curtain. He made me feel like we must have done it. We then had difficulty getting a receipt the next morning which we needed for our book keeping purposes..
Unfortunately what was a lovely place turned out to be a poor experience.
Sorry we won't be back and if you were having a bad day I am also sorry.
Phil,

Hi - we are sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay and felt that we had spoiled your experience. My daughter was sent to your room to also look for the log on sign which had fallen down as you said - you had found it by the time my daughter came across so apologies for this. They normally are on the table and for some reason yours had fallen down out of view. If your view was that I shouldn't be in hospitality, then I apologize that you had this impression. Having been hospitality for most of my life, it is a sad that you think that I shouldn't do what i have successfully done for many years. We all have bad days and are only human no matter how hard we try and most of our customers are happy with the service that we offer. Nigel & Fiona

I recently stayed at the Anchorage for 4 nights whilst exploring the Te Anau and Milford Sound regions.

The motel was ideally located one street back from the lake - the lack of lack views did not bother me because if I wanted a view I would be outside at the lake and not in my room! The area, which appeared quite residential, was very quiet which was great. Each room had its own parking space and there was street parking if your vehicle was too big.

My room was spacious and had everything I needed - a large comfy bed, a table, two comfy chairs, a kitchenette (microwave, two hobs, fridge, toaster, kettle, ample crockery and cutlery), and a bathroom with shower and spa bath. Good size TV and DVD player (various DVDs freely available from reception). The heating could be controlled easily which meant it was always comfortable in there, whatever the weather was doing.

There were chairs and a table outside both the front and back of my room, so plenty of places to sit if I wanted to stay in. There is also a laundry on site (most welcome!), bicycles for hire in exchange for a donation to charity, a BBQ, and a trampoline on the front lawn.

I found the hosts here to be friendly and helpful and really welcomed the free wi-fi.

Town is a short stroll away where there are the usual collection of souvenir shops, cafes, supermarkets and a post office. There isn't a great deal in the way of shops, but then who comes to Te Anau for its shopping! So many lovely walks around the area, and Milford Sound was under two hours drive (I left at 7am and got there in 1hr45m, including stops, but then I only encountered 5 other vehicles all the way there!). Great time of year to visit the Sound!

Would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone.

This motel is excellent - clean, well appointed and great value ($80/night). The kitchen is fully equipped, the suites are spacious and bathrooms modern and bright (suspect it has been renovated since the previous reviewer visited).
We stayed one night before heading off on a kayaking trip to Doubtful Sound (with Fiordland Sea Kayaks who are only a few doors away) and arranged to come back two days later - Nigel arranged for us to have the private bungalow complete with spa bath.
Put simply, its great value and convenient location make it an excellent base.

Yes! All the apartments have 4-ring stovetops, fridges, sinks, cutlery, crockery and adequate kitchen tools. We cooked several meals from scratch while we were there. There is a supermarket about a kilometer away, so you can buy your ingredients easily.
