We stayed one night at the Anchorage. The rooms are a good size and the kitchen area had everything we needed. We were pleasantly surprised to find the large bathroom had heated floor tiles. The man on the reception was extremely helpful. We stayed when the floods had blocked roads in various locations. He contacted the next location we were staying at to find out whether we would be able to get through. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The bed was very cosy are comfy. The location of the Anchorage is within easy walk to everything and there are car spaces for all cars.

This motel is excellent value. The cedar hot tub on a freezing afternoon was lovely. And the water heating fire system was a novelty.
Nigel was so helpful and gave my tall teenage boys a studio each so that they could stretch their legs.
We only stayed one night but it was great for us. Heated tiles and electric blanket were also nice!

First thing first, the hotel offers a personal hot tub in your own room. I did some research and some hot tubs cost extra to the accommodation price , plus they needed to be booked ahead. I was on vacation and hate to be on tight schedule. The hot tub studio worked perfect for my vacation. The room I stayed (no. 2) came with an outdoor hot tub, a gas BBQ, a fully equipped kitchen, a SPA bath with heated tile-floor, and much more. Soaking in the hot tub after a long drive to Te Anau and at night after Milford Sound are simply amazing.

The first night experience was perfect. The water was preheated and ready when we checked in. Unfortunately, I mistakenly drained the bath tub after the first night which I was not supposed to. It took a really long time to heat the water back to comfortable temperature. The spa bath came to the rescue. Not as wonderful as an outdoor hot tub on a chilly day but it was still awesome. Night time soak after dinner was divine (water is heated perfectly after several hours). I had two good night sleep here. Highly recommended if you are deciding to stay in Te Anau.

Nigel, the manager/ owner, is very kind and understanding. He provided us with a neighborhood map and few suggestions. Plus, he let me play with his cats. Cat lovers beware: they are highly adorable and very friendly.

I forgot to mention the milk provided when we checked in. It came in a clear glass bottle, no information. Fresh milk, very yummy. Don't miss it!

This motel is within a short walking distance to everything Te Anau has to offer. Although it is not lakefront, it is really close to the lake. I was hesitating at first too but felt like I would end up in non-lake view in the lakefront resort with my budget anyways. Nigel told us the price now is what he offered 20 years ago. Well, that explains everything. It is affordable and well-worth every dollar. By far this motel has the best value I have found in New Zealand.

Don’t know what the negative reviews are about. Family of 5 in this two bedroom motel room, which was clean and neat. Hot showers with lovely heated towel rails, fantastic toiletries. Kitchenette was very well equipped and pans/pots and cutlery in very good and useable condition. Even provided ground coffee for French press, I love that! Hot chocolate sachets and lots of tea.
Bedrooms are comfortable and clean. Black our curtains very much appreciated in long summer days. Just all very nicely set up for a stay with children — I like the space and all. Will 100% recommend and stay again if we ever visit Te Anau again.

We stayed here three nights, and had a great time. Thanks to covid changing our flights, we had the budget room on our first night (due to us adding on an extra night after our initial booking) and then two nights in the hot tub studio. Both rooms were excellent, clean, modern, satisfactory in every way (except their wifi is poor, which they acknowledge, but Te Anau is miles from anywhere.) The hot tub was a delight (note you need to heat it yourself after the first night via a wood burner they set up for you - that was actually quite fun!) but any of the rooms were great. Comfy beds, nice pressure showers, good kitchen facilities. 10 minute walk to the main street past the lake, or one minute in the car. Would definitely stay here again without hesitation. Te Anau desperately needs travellers at the moment, and value for money, this is a great choice.

Thus is the place to stay overnight if your doing the milford sound cruises.

The sheets are crisp and the complentry toilteries are not typical of the usual places and smell divine.

Ensure if your driving to milford sound, allow 2 hrs min.....

The owners are courteous and lovely people.

We stayed 2 nights and it was just perfect. We did the Envy Experiences Tesla tour to Milford Sound which is run from this motel and I can't recommend it highly enough.
The hosts here are friendly and accommodating. The room, while slightly older, was clean and well appointed. It ticked all my main boxes: thick walls, a comfy bed, and good shower pressure. The cedar hot tub was an extra touch of luxury. This would be our first choice for accommodation on any future visits to Te Anau (and there will be future visits, its a great little town and Milford Sound is just breathtaking).

The owner was not helpful and we felt he didn't want to be there.
The rooms were musty and the kitchen oven was filthy along with the glasses, cutlery and other table top kitchen appliances.
The grounds were full of weeds and the lawn needed mowing.
Would certainly not recommend this place at all.
Don't know why they are showing the Qualmark sign as this motel has been removed from Qualmark recommendation.

Hi Glen - obviously we were not what up to your expectations. Sorry that you were disappointed. We do actually take pride in what we offer so your comments are really gutting for us. I am a real person at the end of your cutting comment who is actually passionate about this area and believe me, I would not have been in this business for 20 plus years it that was the way I operated. If you are talking about me as the owner/manager, then apologies from me that you thought I was not interested - I do care as many other guests say but perhaps you caught me at a tired moment - we are all only human and do sometimes have these moments. All your other comments are noted thanks. We are a current member of Qualmark also.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a little walk to the lake and town but overall it’s in a good location. The units are looking old and tired and the level of cleanliness around bed linen is not great. I don’t want to pull back the sheets and find other people’s hair on them! We stayed there 2 nights with a one night break in between and the second night was fine. So perhaps it was a once off. I don’t think I’d stay here again though.

We looked at so many different options for our two night stay in Te Anau, in the end the price and more importantly the hot tub was the overwhelming reason to stay. It didnt disapoint. The hot tub was amazing and the next night it only took a short time and a couple of logs to heat up again. The owner was very friendly and helpfull, the room very comfortable. For the price its an absolute bargin cant recommend highly enough.

Yes! All the apartments have 4-ring stovetops, fridges, sinks, cutlery, crockery and adequate kitchen tools. We cooked several meals from scratch while we were there. There is a supermarket about a kilometer away, so you can buy your ingredients easily.
