Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed in Kingsgate Hotel in January which I highly recommend and would have no hesitation in recommending it as a place to stay. The staff are very professional, courteous and friendly. They could not do enough to make our stay as pleasant as possible. Such an experience can never be obtained from a large commercial hotel.

They must have staff issues here! This is an older, freshened up hotel. About a 2.5 out of 5 level. It is located across the street from one end of Lake Te Anau waterfront. Our stay here has been somewhat of a disappointment. The freshening up could have been taken a little further, but that's not what really bugged us. When we checked into our room yesterday we discovered the bed was missing a sheet. We called the front desk, they brought a sheet and we corrected the situation ourselves. Today when we returned, after a full day at Milford Sound, we find the bed made, dirty glasses replaced or cleaned BUT a big pile of sheets on the counter, no towels except for the used ones in the bathtub and no ammenities restocked. Called the front desk again . . . a house keeper came fairly promptly and finished the job. Room 218. We wouldn't stay here again.

Close to town (10mins walk). Clean and comfortable. Across the road from the lake at the end near the information centre. Very welcoming staff and happy to accommodate any request. Always happy and smiling. Rooms are big enough and have a mini fridge, tea/coffee facilities.

The hotel is dated, but clean throughout. The restaurant food, and staff were very good. The room was large, and had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel and restaurant overlook the lake and are just a short walking distance from the village centre.

Great location. Most rooms on first floor, no lift - difficult with knee injury though help with cases was offered. Hot breakfast buffet a bit disappointing but there are local cafe options worth the visit.

I can’t recommend this hotel - we apparently had one of the best rooms but it was pretty dire. The bathroom was tiny, old and worn out. The furniture was basic and cheap - breakfast was ok but this just isn’t a good place to stay sadly.

The only good thing about the hotel is its nice lakeside location. Rooms are small, even their “deluxe”. Feels very cramped with kids. Badly needs a facelift, and air conditioning. There is a portable fan but it has lots of lights on it, which makes it really annoying at night time.

Voodoo, great to get your feedback which I appreciate to help us better our guests expectations when staying with us. We do not provide 'deluxe' rooms so you may have us confused with another property? AC is in the pipeline for later this year which will be an exciting development for our property. Best regards,

Bathroom small and shower in narrow bath with shower curtain hopeless. Floods on bathroom floor after every shower. Old, needs refurbishment. Decor in bedroom old - needs a complete makeover. Price not commensurate with room standard. Prepayment taken from our account 3 months before travel. This is unacceptable and did not happen with any of our other 6 hotel accommodation in NZ. It may be permissable in the fine print however I feel this is ethically unacceptable.

Older style kiwi hotel but in excellent condition. Very comfortable bed and all the usual hotel room facilities. Superb, friendly staff who made you feel very welcome. We also had a good pub style dinner in the dining room at a very good price. Breakfast was just ok but then it was quite good value - so you get what you pay for I guess. I’d recommend and stay there again - it is well priced compared to some other hotels in the area.

Good hotel on the outskirts of Te Anau. Had an excellent buffet in the restaurant on our first night. The baked ham was outstanding. We were disappointed that the restaurant was closed on the following night. Staff were friendly and helpful.
