Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Excellent location, 600 metres from Town centre, aprox 10 minutes walk. Dave and Jane proved to be excellent hosts, very helpfull regarding popular Tourist activities and followed their recomendations. Helicopter ride to mountain tops surrounding lake for morning picnic. Views are magnificent above the clouds and pilot Snowey had great local knowledge with commentary. Milford Sound day trip and cruise was hilite of our holiday. Cottage was warm and cosy with expected facilities, parking no problem, and cheerfull hosts made us feel right aty home.

We stayed in the suite for one night on our 'traveling NZ' honeymoon. Quite disappointed as the advertising does not clearly distinguish the suite as a small motel room (no pictures of the suite, this is not a cottage! Does not have a kitchenette or refrigerator!) This was the most expensive lodging on our trip so far and our least favorite. The toilet had not been cleaned (dirty waste paper still in bowl) and the nightstand was covered with a sticky substance. Room and bedding was otherwise clean. The walls were EXTREMELY thin, we could hear normal conversations of the residents in the adjacent room. Pros: Great location, walking distance to town, friendly staff, free parking. Overall, not worth the price tag, we wished we had chosen alternative accommodations.

... regarding cancellations. Booked a two night stay two-and-a-half months out. Cancelled within 72 hours, but they still charged us about $50 USD. Really? You think you're cottage will have no takers in late January?

Absolutely beautiful little cottage very clean and well kept. The gardens were stunning and inviting. David and Jane were very helpful with my activities, which made my trip to Lake Te Anau extremely easy.

Visited Te Anau recently and stayed at the most comfortable Templenoe Cottages where I was warmly welcomed by Jane and Dave. Everything I needed was already supplied in my cosy cottage including WiFi and both Jane And Dave were able to give me lots of advice of what to do and where to go to eat locally. Beautiful gardens and lovely private accommodation. Would have no hesitation in recommending a stay here.

Wow, where to start. The room was clean. The "kitchen" had the basic essentials, hot water pot, utensils, plates, mugs and coffee, tea, sugar & creamer. The bathroom is very tight, with little to no counter space. The bed was warm, but had been around for awhile as there was a sag in the center. The heater worked fine. The unit we had was away from the road, so not as noisy as the one out front. But it had a lane that was frequently used by the next camp people. They were also noisy into the later evening as there was a playground that backed up to the unit we had. Parking was tight.

We had expected a lot more for what we paid. The good things are that The hotel is conveniently located and the kitchen amenities were excellent. However our stay was very uncomfortable. There was absolutely no air circulation in the room. Even though at night the temperatures dropped considerably, the room was very warm and stuffy. We tried to leave the windows open but that only resulted in swarms of insects flying in the room. The windows had no screen. We felt itchy all night perhaps thinking about being bitten by insects? Also the host was enjoying company of guests very late into the night and it was too noisy for us. We barely slept at night and couldnt wait to leave. You might consider bringing your own shampoo. Unless we missed it, we didnt find any.

I stayed at Templenoe for 3 nights in March. A very relaxing location. It was a welcome sanctuary after spending 10 nights in a camper van. Jane and Dave were excellent hosts - I felt so at home and didn't want to leave. I was planning on driving to Milford Sound but they both recommended that I go on an organised trip. Dave was right when he said the journey up to the Sound was all part of it and as a solo driver I would've definitely missed out on so much. As I was travelling on my own Jane also took some time out to take me along part of the Keppler trail and show me around the outlying area of Te Anau. If you find yourself planning a trip to Milford Sound I would definitely recommend using Templenoe Cottages as a base.

Booked Into Templenoe Cottages never having been to Te Anau before. A superb location to explore Milford Sound and Doubtful Sound. Lots of local amenities including Kayaking and Horse Riding. Took a trip to Milford Sound and a helicopter ride to stand on top of a local glacier. Amazing experience. Dave and Jane were our hosts at the cottages. A delightful couple who keep very comfortable, clean and cozy cottages. Highly recommended- better to stay with n Te Anau then take day trips from Queenstown (eliminates hours of driving to see the sites that should not be missed) Rating - 9.5 out of ten

Basic, but clean and convenient room. Wi-fi was frustratingly bad in the room and was annoying not having a wardrobe as often useful to hang things up especially after getting wet at Milford Sound. About a 5 min walk into town. No laundry facilities on site, but a launderette about 5 mins away - again useful after trekking around Milford sound!
