The cottage was clean and we were welcomed on arrival. Morelike a granny flat - small, cosy but not ideal for a family of four with teenage girls. Too far to walk to town and not much for the kids to do. Nice for a couples retreat but just didn't suit our family.
The Blue Mountain cottages are highly recommended if one would like to be amidst nature and in a farm set up away from the hustle and bustle of a city centre. The lush green meadows, the mountains, the hiking trails, the company of the alpacas and the sheep and the calm and quiet atmosphere are few things that add to the charm of the stay. The two bedroom cottages are well appointed and equipped with a living room and a kitchenette and are suitable for a family (with or without kids). The hosts are very nice and hospitable and the cottages are quite comfortable though not luxurious. If you are tired of staying at five star hotels, bit wary of the noise and activities around the town centre and looking for some serenity, space and solitude, the place is a great retreat. However, the farm is about 7 km away from the city centre and is quite secluded. If you are not driving and do not have your own vehicle, you would feel a bit restricted though you could use the excellent local taxi services provided by Ally Borges of Te Anau Transfers. If you are the one who cannot live without being connected to others or need to remain connected with family and friends, keep in mind that the mobile network coverage is non existent and the cottages do not offer WiFi service, though the hosts kindly offer access to their house to use the WiFi service to check your mails. Given the distance from the city centre, you need to be well stocked up to avoid the need to run to the town often. A great place for those seeking peace, tranquility and quality time with family, but not one for those who enjoy the comfort , connectivity and services of a hotel or the buzz of a city centre. Keep in mind that Te Anau has a Great Lake front and the accommodations there provide a great view and are close to the city centre. But I will recommend the place if you would like to experience a different living not easily available to those living in a city.…
Our family from overseas absolutely loved staying at this cottage, it was a highlight stay during our trip of the South Island. The rural setting is still quite close to town and all amenities. The cottage exceeded expectations and came equipped with a good kitchen. The owners were very friendly and helpful and I appreciated the maps in the unit of the Milford Sound Road.
We stayed in Fiona's home for one night. She was an excellent host and made us feel at ease and comfortable. We had free continental breakfast prepared by Fiona herself. She also allowed us to see her Alpacas and feed them.
we stayed here % days. Fiona and Dean were great host for the cottage, with both views and guiding for Trout. Having the Alpacas and the animals to wake up to each mourning was great. the friendship and fellowship were a refreshing and great experience displayed by the Great New Zealand people. Thanks Fiona and Dean
Fiona took such great care of us and we loved staying at the Blue Mountain Cottages, situated just a few minutes away from Te Anu. Full kitchen and laundry made the stay super convenient. Note that it is very hard to get online here as the wifi signal gets blocked by a nearby hill. If you need to make a phone call or send off and e-mail, you have to go into the main building to use the hosts satellite service or go outside down to the main road to pick up a signal.
We stayed at Blue Mountain only one night, but it was one of the most beautiful and memorable days of our trip. I'm so glad we got there early enough to explore the property and all its many creatures! And Fiona and Dean were warm and gracious hosts, with an eye on the smallest details. This is my first and only choice if I return to Te Anau. We stayed in the main house, but next time I'd like to check out the cottages!
We stayed at Blue Mountain two nights and could have stayed longer! The B&B is slightly outside Te Anau, but each cabin looks out on a pasture of sheep and has a beautiful view of the surrounding area. The owner Fiona, and her partner Dean (who organizes fishing trips), were wonderful hosts. Fiona served us beautiful breakfasts, was available for advice and conversation and provided free wifi in their home. The cabins were spacious, well-equipped for longer stays, clean and comfy. We can highly recommend Blue Mountain for your trip to Te Anau!
We stayed in the main house in a very comfortable bedroom. The bathroom across the hall was private for us, and was very nicely appointed. Fiona was really great with advice for local walks/tracks and we really enjoyed both the food and conversations at breakfast time.
Fiona was a wonderful host, very welcoming. We stayed in the B&B room in the house, which was immaculate. Bathroom and shower were located right outside the room. She has a wood stove in the kitchen/dining room area which made it really cozy. The continental breakfast was wonderful and we even got to feed the alpacas and sheep in the morning! We had a great night's stay, I would highly recommend it.
