I own and operate two self contained cottages on 20 acres of intensively farmed land, 7km south of Te Anau on the Southern Scenic Route. We are conveniently located between the two entrances onto the Kepler Track and are just minutes from the Waiau River, famed for rainbow and brown trout. Each cottage has two bedrooms, a double and a twin, with a seperate bathroom, laundry and barbecue. This is a great place for families and couples alike. I offer Country living at its best and a real taste of the New Zealand way of life.

Detailed Reviews
Doing a farm tour of this lovely working farm should be on everyone's itinerary. Phil will give you a glimpse into New Zealand farm life and allow you to interact with the animals. Bottle-feeding a five-week old lamb and cuddling with the Alpacas, then leaving with freshly laid eggs... need we say more? Truly a highlight for us. Check out the adorable gift shop on this magnificent farm. These are good people and the animals are treated beautifully. Phil, thanks for accommodating us on such short notice. You have huge fans here in New York!

+1
We stayed in Fiona's home for one night. She was an excellent host and made us feel at ease and comfortable. We had free continental breakfast prepared by Fiona herself. She also allowed us to see her Alpacas and feed them.

We spent 4 nights there. Our bungalow was well equipped. But in particular we appreciated the environment of the place. We were very well welcomed by Pete who gave us a short tour of the property. We discovered the garden and its fresh vegetables and enjoyed all the animals around: vicunas, sheep, a friendly pig and two adorable dogs.
We also got venison for the barbecue and fresh eggs.
Fiona and Pete were very friendly to us.
We recommend this place and its good feeling.

We were 2 couples from the UK and stayed for 4 nights. The accommodation was excellent as we had a cottage each! All modern and spotless. Plenty of local walks and Te Anau is just a short drive away. The owners could not have been nicer.
Highly recommended by all of us.

The cottage was clean and we were welcomed on arrival.
Morelike a granny flat - small, cosy but not ideal for a family of four with teenage girls. Too far to walk to town and not much for the kids to do.
Nice for a couples retreat but just didn't suit our family.

What a beautiful spot to stay. The cottages were extremely well set up with flowers in every room, comfortable lazy boy recliner sofas, everything you could want in the kitchen, really good washing machines with soap powder supplied, excellent bbq, very comfortable beds. Loved the attention to detail. We were continually wowed by the care given to us by Fiona and Jayden, including delicious cream and jam pikelets upon arrival and even lemon tarts one night. Fiona has cleverly got the cottages to a standard of being home away from home. This has to be the best choice of accommodation. We are looking forward to coming back. Many thanks for wowing us.

Quite disappointed. Was looking forward to farm stay. The farm tour was a quick half an hour one as it was christmas day. So seemed like the hostess was just ticking off doing the farm tour.Had called earlier and checked about restaurant availability for dinner. The hostess was kind enough to put some dinner for us in the fridge. Appreciate that. However though our breakfast was included in the package she never bothered to ask about breakfast or provide as they had to leave for auckland early next morning. The mistake we did was not ask. But however our package clearly stated breakfast included so she should have atleast explained. Being Christmas we struggled to find even bread as supermarkets was closed.

Response from yukonmiss, Owner at Blue Mountain Cottages/Lodge
Responded 8 Jan 2016
My sincerest apologies that you found your stay disappointing. I read this with much regret. I would like to explain my interpretation of your visit. I recall the conversation I had with your travel agent at the time of booking. I made it quite clear, that being Xmas day, I would be not be able to give you my full attention and I was reluctant to take the booking. He assured me you understood this and didn't mind. My cottages are not advertised as Bed and Breakfast. They are advertised as Self Contained. I can, however, provide breakfast if made by prior arrangement. As far as I am aware, breakfast was not arranged. I have no record of this, and therefore saw no need to speak with you about it. A farm tour generally only takes between 30-45 minutes at the best of times, depending on the amount of interest our quests have in our lifestyle and forthcoming questions. Im sorry we had to dash away to Auckland early. I do concede this was not ideal. I apologise again for your disappointment, the misunderstanding between you and your travel agent and myself and hope you enjoyed the rest of your holiday.

We loved the Blue Mountain Cottages: very neat and tidy, very well equipped and very comfortable. More importantly, Fiona was extremely helpful with planning our holiday leading up to and following our stay: she also drove us to the start of the Kepler Tramp, and then came and collected us when we had finished, saving us a huge amount of hassle with overnight parking, shuttles etc!

The best stay we’ve had in NZ was in the Blue Mountain Cottages.
Overall feature of the place: Lovely, cozy, clean and well maintained.
Price: Reasonable
The Host: Her name is Fiona and she was the nicest person we’ve met on this trip. We’ve met Jayden as well, their sweet little boy, who introduced us to their sheep, hen and dogs.
Freebies: Welcome spiced cake and butter, and newly laid eggs. Fiona also gave us free salads and tomatoes from her garden. We’ve not met Phil though.
Location: Perfect to end your busy day driving from the Milford, or a day’s trek to the beautiful tracks in the area. Its 5 minutes away from Te Anau centre by car and as soon as you step into the gates of Blue Mountain cottages, you feel a certain tranquillity that ends your day perfectly.
Our overall recommendation: An accommodation you don’t want to miss out and certainly an accommodation to come back to.

excellent place to stay. quiet and cosy, just a short drive from both Te anua and manapori.
great selfcontained cottages with every thing you need. great view of mt luxmor, sheep and cows in the padock, friendly dogs and great hosts. fresh free range eggs and home made cake was waiting for us when we arrived.
great location if you are planning on doing trips to both milford sound and doubful sounds as they are long day trips and would be even longer if you do them from queenstown
we had a great stay and will stay again next time i'm down south.
