Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I and another couple were on a three week trip of the South Island and were fortunate to stay at Dusky Ridges during our trip. Dusky Ridges is a working farm on a beautiful setting. Win is very accommodating - providing breakfast food for us to prepare and always a treat such as carrot cake or cookies every day. Our visit was broken into two stays - one night then we went on the Doubtful Sound overnight cruise then a three night stay. During the second stay did the Kepler Track day hike and drove to Milford Sound. There is so much to do in the area - we would love to come back and would definitely stay at Dusky Ridges again.

Definitely one of the highlights of my husband and mine’s month in New Zealand. What a beautiful setting !! Win and Henrich provided wine, fresh bread, eggs, sausage wrapped and adorned with fresh flowers desserts and other fresh goodies for us. There was a washer, stove and a beautiful outdoor space where we could walk out to interact with the goats, sheep and deer.

We loved our stay at Dusky Ridges and wished it had been longer. The 2 bedroom apartment was perfect for us and we loved the views and stargazing through the skylights. We cooked dinner in the kitchen (using the plentiful breakfast provisions that were more than we needed, plus a few things we bought) and it was very well equipped. Our hostess took my daughter to visit and feed all the animals, which was lots of fun. Thank you so much!

Perfection! My wife and I spend half the month in different countries for work. We also love to travel on our free time. We have have stayed in lavish resorts, beautiful Airbnb’s, 5 star hotels, but Dusky Ridges B&B is better than all of those. It’s from the combination of: a warm and wonderful host (Win), a beautiful property, a perfectly appointed Chalet, ridiculously stunning views, happy and loving animals, and an incredible amount of delicious home made food. This is the best place we have ever stayed and definitely will be the only place we would stay if on the South Island again.

Stayed for a night and totally enjoyed the company of all the friendly animals and most importantly, thankful for the lady owner for introducing us to her lovely home farm. She was so warm and genuine. Not to mention the cottage we stayed in is the most self-contained with so much to offer! We were able to had breakfast and packed lunch for our doubtful sound cruise the next day. Thank you and highly recommended! :)

We’ve done our fair share of travelling over the years and have leant toward agri-tourism type accomodation whenever possible. We have no hesitation in saying that Dusky Ridges is a step up from any other farm-stay or B&B that we have experienced anywhere. For a start it is a privilege to be able to stay on a substantial and beautifully maintained working farm in such a picture-postcard setting. The elevated views to Lake Te Anau and the mountains beyond across park-like paddocks and hedges are truly memorable. Add to that the lovely little chalet with its practical layout, stylish decor and ultra-generous stock of provisions and you have something that is truly special. No doubt the alternative apartment attached to the house is of a similar standard. Last but certainly not least is a warm, generous, down-to-earth and clearly genuine hospitality from both Win and Henrik that leaves a lasting impression. Such was the pleasure we derived from our brief stay that we’ve already made bookings for a revisit to NZ with Dusky Ridges as the focal point.

What a delight. We stayed in the Garden Chalet. It was spacious, warm and clean. It was also well appointed and beautifully decorated. The accommodation is about 5km out of Te Anau itself, but on this occasion you do not need to stay in the township. Dusky Ridges has everything you need and want. Our host Win was so amazing. When we checked in the fridge was full of breakfast ingredients, there was a welcome basket of goodies and of course the famous homemade bread YUMMY. The farm animals are adorable and fun to watch. Be prepared to fall in love with the Alpacas, goats, deer, sheep and the cute chickens. Would highly recommend putting Te Anau on the destination list just so you can stay at Dusky Ridges.

Truly one of the most unique accomodation experiences we have ever had. Absolutely magnificent views, lovely hosts, generously provided farm-sourced baked goods and breakfast provisions and a beautiful room. But more importantly than all of that, you can walk about 5 meters from your room to the most charming little farm paddock in the world and feed, pat and interact with their motley crew of Alpacas, Sheep, Goats, Deer and Chickens who all seem to think they are dogs! Amazing, an absolute highlight of our trip - highly recommended.

This is how to run a holiday stay. Slightly out of Te Anau (10 mins) but with spectacular views and the farm animals around. We stayed in the two bed unit and it was spotless. The fridge was stocked and there was fresh bread each day. There was a beer and a bottle of wine. Loads of lovely toiletries available and comfy beds. Stay here if in Te Anau.
