Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had three very comfortable nights at High Leys and thoroughly appreciated Sarah and John’s hospitality. Not only were the breakfasts and extras excellent but Sarah facilitated our booking of a Doubtful Sound overnight cruise, welcoming us back for a night after the cruise, and she recommended local restaurants in time for us to get bookings - which was very helpful as the good ones were really busy. Thoroughly recommended.

Best views and best breakfast of our trip. Clean rooms and comfortable beds. John and Sarah are very friendly and helped book a trip and restaurants. Plus there are different home made coolies every day. Certainly worth a second visit some time.

We had a lovely stay! Sarah & John were very kind, and the room was comfortable and has everything you need. Sarah’s homemade breakfast in the morning was delicious. Note that this is more of a traditional Bed & Breakfast as opposed to a hotel, so be sure to coordinate your arrival with Sarah & John ahead of time. Stunning views of the lake and only 5-10 minutes from downtown Te Anau.

Stunning property, inside out. Lovey room, large common area decorated with artistic taste, view on the lake and huge garden that challenges Monet's! Great location to visit the fyords. Great hosts that do everything, I mean really everything (like spending lots of time to organize our excursions) to make us feel like close friends. We never been pampered like this before! Thank you so much Ann and John.

We had a fabulous 2 night stay at High Leys. It's such a beautiful house in amazing surroundings. That comfy lounge overlooking Lake Te-Anau and the mountains beyond is incredible! We had the garden view queen room and it was perfect for our needs with a great shower and comfy bed. Sarah and John were perfect hosts... helpful and friendly but left us to our own devices. It was also nice to meet other travellers in lounge/dining room and tell stories of our adventures so far. It's situated a couple of mins drive out of the main town (we drove in for a meal one evening) and we were conveniently collected at the door for the small bus tour to Milford Sound we had booked. Thanks very much for sharing your home John and Sarah and we hope you enjoyed your break away too! :)

Our 3 night stay at High Leys Lodge was the highlight of our 2 and a half week tour of NZ's South Island. Sarah and John hosted us impeccably and our accommodation was luxurious. We truly loved Sarah's wonderful breakfast offerings and the subsequent little treats left on the dining room table ! The stunning location of High Leys, surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens sloping down to beautiful Lake Te Anau will be forever etched in our memories . We've travelled to 90 different countries around the world and our experience at High Leys Lodge definitely rates as one of the most unforgettable !

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of our NZ touring holiday. High Leys is a luxurious B&B lodge, in a quiet location a short drive out of the main town, with amazing views and very kind hosts. We stayed in the Takitimu room which is a queen room, a little cheaper (& smaller) than the other two king rooms. Everywhere is furnished to the highest luxurious standards you could imagine. The residents lounge and dining room has the most amazing views - I could have sat there day! There is even a piano for guests use ! We had a very early tour booked one morning of our stay and I was overwhelmed that Sarah got up at 5am to prepare our packed lunches (additional charge applies) and take out breakfast boxes for the trip. That was way over and above our expectations but shows what a high standard of service is offered here. The next morning we were able to lay in and enjoy Sarahs breakfast in the dining room - wow! Fabulous choices, cooked to order and absolutely delicious. Sarah also enjoys home baking and if viennese whirls are on the table when you visit, don't hesitate to sample one. Thank you both for a marvellous stay, which I would also add was very competively priced when compared to other places we stayed on our trip.

On our 6 weeks NZL Trip High Leys Lodge will loom large as the best place we were lucky enough to stay in. And we stayed in some wonderful places! The location, facilities and provisions were second to none. To top it off, the welcome and service from Sarah was next level. We felt that she knew all our wishes before and was reading our wishes out if our mind ! TeAnau itself is a stunning location - and sadly, we only had three nights there - but it was the hospitality of John and Sarah that has made us resolute that we will return... even how Jihn looks for his „little“ garden and presenting us a little paradise ! We should not forget the view and the georgous terrace….even though we are from Germany a good nearly 24 hours away via a couple of flights and a drive! But this place is that special to come back - just because I totally forgot to tune the guitar 🎸

Outstanding lodge. We travel fairly extensively and this is one of the best lodges we we have ever stayed in anywhere in the world. Sarah and John have created a luxurious, warm, friendly lodge in an area which is stunning. Peaceful, calm and tranquil, the South Arm Deluxe King room has the most stunning views you could ever wish for, with uninterrupted views over Lake Te Anau. Comfortable bed, huge wet room (also with lake views) and very large storage area for bags etc which is also out of view. Breakfast was very well presented and prepared by Sarah and with a great choice. (Homemade raspberry jam was especially good!) Tea, coffee and homemade cakes always available. All in all, we couldn’t fault this place and would thoroughly recommend it!

We spent 3 nights and everything was perfect: the property, the room, the sheets, the shower... The place is amazing with a wonderful view and Sarah is super host. Breakfast is wonderful, even when we asked for a breakfast in a box (because we were leaving very early) - it was the best we ever had.
