Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The idea accommodation in the centre of Oban, it has a bar with bar meals and a sit down restaurant. Offering 3 type of accommodation. In the hotel upstairs, The cottage behind ( 4 bedrooms with two toilets and two shower rooms. The bedrooms are basic with a handbasin but lovely and clean. Very quiet. Then behind these are small motel type rooms. We stayed in the cottage as accommodation on the island is hard to get. We could walk anywhere from here to the food truck Fin & Feather(yum) to The Old Butchers Cafe (great coffee great breakfast) from 2pm they offer beer and wine. A very friendly team & they also do booking for day trips and the water Taxi. The Kai Kart is a great place to get fresh Blue cod, local mussels and very very generous serves of chips. Open at Lunch and dinner. a Small grocery store is also nearby where beer & wine meat fish mussels and all everyday grocery items.

Charming country hotel, comfy and superb location. Very reasonable rates too. Sunday night trivia is a must, easy to join a team if you’re solo. Staff are friendly and helpful, if you’ve been hiking they accept leftover gads cans, hut tickets and unused meals for local youth organisations.

The hotel is in a great location however you get to Stewart Island, either by air or by sea. Some of the staff need to go on a customer awareness course, there was one surly young man in the breakfast area the day we arrived. We stayed in one of the Studio Units round the back, spacious but cold, only single glazed. Bed was comfortable. There is a good atmosphere in the bar area, and if you want to sit in the restaurant to eat, you need to book.

Went to the South Seas Hotel for breakfast. Two of us got our order ( with about 10 minutes between) the other two are still waiting!! The gentleman who served us at the counter was very apologetic They were quite busy but people who had ordered after us were served and still no meals for the two at our table After approx 3/4 to 1 hour and 2 of us had finished, we asked for our money back and went to The Butchery Very poor on the part of the kitchen staff

Good location but this is a very basic hotel, more for backpackers in my opinion. Our room didn't even have a hand basin. Shared toilets and showers down the corridor. I couldn't even get any hot water. Carpet very grubby and photo shows mould on hotel room door. Also three of hotel staff walked around corridors talking loudly discussing the rooms at 8.30am which I found bizarre and very annoying.

From the outside the hotel looks quaint but that's about it. The rooms are tiny and do not have their own bathrooms or showers. It's communal - like a hostel. Therefore call it a hostel NOT a hotel. The wifi is atrocious and they basically tell you that when you check and get the access code. They give the lame excuse that 'we are on an island so the wifi is not that great' Oh really - well I was on Stewart a few months ago and stayed in an Airbnb and the wifi was superb. Fast - reliable - excellent. Clearly the owner of this hotel prefers not to invest in upgrading their system. Never again. I'd leave except there is nothing else available on the island and I wanted to travel on short notice as the weather was looking good.

For a budget location, this was fine. I was able to check in early, and my sea-view room was spacious and comfortable. While the facilities were shared rather than en suite, they were clean and well cared for. The only real issue was that the internet wouldn't connect. I got errors both on my phone and laptop.

As many of the other reviews have mentioned, staff were RUDE. Particularly a young guy - should not be working in customer service. Wifi was non-existent (and staff didn't care one bit). Bathroom and window frames covered in mould. Continental breakfast options are pretty poor. Some positives, although none would convince me to ever stay here again: Room (studio unit) - bed very comfortable, heating quite adequate & cosy, lots of space. Location - very close to the ferry terminal and shops. Restaurant - I had a nice meal (baked cod).
