Husband and i visited Stewart Island for a little over 5 days and we had a amazing experience. We resided at Glendaurel and Raylene was a amazing host. The B&B was a short walk to town and so close to the small walks that you could do during your stay there. We did the Rakiura track and Raylene always made sure that breakfast was available on time. She would communicate really well and would keep everything around very tidy and clean. She is super knowledgeable and was always happy to provide us with anything we were after during our stay. Her garden was just mind blowing and this outlooks onto a valley full of stewart island birds. So after a long day of doing all touristy stuff if you just wish to rest up or chill in then this is the place - with a beautiful collection of book in house - one can really not complaint :) thank you Raylene.…
I had a lovely! time at Glendural. I stayed for four nights, and was very grateful for the comforts of limitless heating from the boiler (I came dressed for summer, cold snap meant 10 degrees and below!), fabulous breakfasts, beautiful views, super comfy bed, and great company. I am definitely rebooking here if I’m back in Stewart island.
Our second time on Stewart Island, but first time at Glendaruel and we loved it. Raylene is a great host and a fund of knowledge on all matters relating to the island. From the moment she picks you up at the ferry terminal, you feel at home. The location of Glendaruel is perfect, between Oban and Golden Bay, with beautiful views all around and wonderful bird sound everywhere. An easy walk into Oban for dinner at night - a bit steep on the way back, but that's all to the good after a full meal! Our room upstairs was very comfortable and adjacent to the large guest lounge with wrap around views and an abundance of books and information on the island and NZ in general. A great place to relax after a day's walking. We also loved the informal breakfasts and chance to chat to Raylene and the other guest who was staying at the time. Stewart Island is a very special place and we were very glad that we had included it in our itinerary again. And Glendaruel was the perfect place to make the most of it. Highly recommended. Thank you Raylene!…
Great hosts. They are locals and will show you all the great places to visit. The B&B is a short walk to town. Some rooms have views. Great breakfast. The rooms were clean and quiet. The only draw-back is it's not in town.
This was a lovely place to stay in Oban, Stewart Island. Raylene, our host meet us at the ferry and welcomed us to her home/bed & breakfast with fresh coffee & lots of information of place to see and things to do. She is very knowledgeable about the flora & fauna of the area, has a lovely garden with lots of birdlife. Breakfast was made to order with produce from her garden. Room was very comfortable with all the extra to make our stay a pleasure.
Before we even arrived our host Raylene was in touch by email to let us know she would be picking us up at the ferry terminal to drive us to her wonderful house on Golden Bay Road. Our room was perfect, very comfortable, very clean and with wonderful views over the garden. We thoroughly enjoyed the excellent breakfast and chats with Raylene and the other guests over a cup of coffee before setting out for the day. The lounge upstairs is a wonderful place to relax after a day exploring the wonderful Stewart Island with great views towards Paterson Inlet. A fantastic place to stay, only 15 minutes walk to the centre of Oban or 5 minutes to Golden Bay and a brilliant host in Raylene
Glendaruel was so peaceful and relaxing, we could have stayed longer!! Raylene made us feel very relaxed and welcome from the time we walked in the door. Nothing was a problem. From the time we made our booking, we were offered pick ups, drop offs and any help we needed while on the island. Raylene offered us her local knowledge, and offered to make bookings if we required her to. Glendaruel is in a great location, not far from the waterfront and just up the hill from where you board the Ulva Island ferry. Actually, its not far from anything! Raylenes gardens are beautiful and well maintained. You sit on your deck looking over the bush which is bustling with bird life! Peaceful and relaxing. The rooms were very comfortable, with tea, coffee and a few cookies and chocolates available. A delicious cooked and continental breakfast was made fresh for us each morning at a time that suited our schedule. It was lovely to meet the friendly and sociable, Macpherson. Thank you Raylene for helping to make our stay on Stewart Island a wonderful experience! Highly recommended.…
We stayed at Glendaruel for 2 nights and were absolutely delighted with the accommodation. We had travelled all the way from Oban in Scotland and were collected at the "air terminal" by Rayline and introduced to Mr McPherson when we arrived at the house. The walk into town is quite easy and takes about 15 minutes - and if you eat at the hotel, they offer a free lift back, which is typical of small communities like Oban. Breakfast is as big or small as you like and the choice is exceptional considering the remoteness of Stewart Island. We had some entertainment with the Kea birds on the verandah and some wonderful discussions with Reylene about the local area and history. We spent most of our time on the island walking and visited the church, half moon bay (twice) and made it to the lighthouse and back just in time for our return flight back to Invercargill. Raylene is an excellent host and we thoroughly enjoyed or time at Glendaruel - which is also a village in Scotland. Stuart, Olga, and Charlotte Gunn…
We stayed 2 nights at Glendaruel Bed & Breakfast. Raylene is amazingly helpful. Even before you arrive she is emailing you information and suggestions to make your Stewart Island stay special. Such a great base for exploring Stewart and Ulva Islands.
If you want kiwis this is the place to stay. Raylene regularly gets them in the garden and we woke to the sound of them on our first morning. They are also seen on the sports ground behind her home and my husband was delighted to see one there. The Band B itself is wonderful. We had a very cosy room with everything you could want and more. Nothing is too much trouble for Raylene and she made us very welcome, a true home from home. Macpherson was an added bonus. Highly recommended place to stay.
