This place is great for a family or couple vacation. A few km out of the town but we got a rental car included in booking so all good. Got picked up and dropped off at the ferry and the hosts are super friendly and accomodating. Rooms have everything you need!
Fantastic place to stay while exploring Stewart Island. Fi and Heath are knowledgeable and excellent hosts. Having a car was an added bonus after doing the Rakiura Track with tired legs. Rakiura Retreat is a magic spot to watch the sunrise and to look at the stars while sitting in the gardens hoping for a glimpse of the kiwi who come to visit. Note we didn’t see one but gives us a reason to go back.
Perfect base for exploration of Rakiura Stewart Island. The car is a massive bonus and the facilities are very clean, comfortable and warm. Fiona and Heath are the loveliest hosts and managers. Kaka visit daily and the Kereru are prolific.
The unit was nice and clean. Everything was present what we needed for our three day stay. Lorraine was very helpful and flexible with our stay. Heath and Fiona were fabulous and very helpful. Heath gave us a tour to island as soon as we arrived. They provided a car with our stay. It was too handy to be on this island.
We stayed here for three nights and loved everything about this motel. Spotlessly clean and with a charming retro vibe, it had everything you needed for a comfortable stay. There was a laundry room, games, cards and books available and even a little sewing kit for running repairs. Pickup was by Heath, who gave us a wee tiki tour before heading back to the motel. We were provided with a car, which was invaluable. Heath and Fiona are charming and friendly, and did everything they could to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. We loved it and would definitely return given the opportunity.
We stayed here for a week & loved it. The actual units are a bit older but they're really well appointed with everything you need to feel at home. The setting is great with Bush all around & even a local Kaka who came knocking on the window for some treats. There's a nice beach in front of the units and having a dedicated car made getting around easy. Thanks for a great week Fiona & Heath!
Book here for your Stewart Island getaway and you will have no regrets. Heath picked us up from the Ferry and took us on a quick tour around town pointing out the main spots. Our accomodation was spacious and very clean. It had everything we needed. The bird sounds we heard were wonderful. We saw a Kaka and Kereru. We didn’t see a kiwi but one of the other guests saw one at the accomodation the night before. The included cars are such a benefit a d we explored so much of the island. The steps on the property led down to a quiet golden sand beach and the kids had fun playing on the beach. If we ever make it back again we will definitely be staying here again.
From the pickup by Heath, to the unit having everything you could possibly need and more... You won't regret staying here. The car is a fantastic idea as the island is large and great to see all parts. Would definitely stay there again without a doubt. Thank you!
I could have stayed much longer. Heath and Fiona are great hosts and picked us up and dropped off for flights. Heath gave us a tour of the Island and a car to use was a bonus as it is a bit out of the township, but the car makes everything so easy. The unit is well set up with everything for a home away from home and the view is beautiful. Have access to Bragg bay via stairs at the back which is a lovely bay for a walk. Loved our time there, beds comfy and you really feel the stress just disappear. The local Kaka came calling and knocking on our window it was great. Lovely spot, could not get tired of that view.
We spent 3 nights at this magic little place. Very nicely appointed & well thought through units. Looked after extremely well by our new friends, Heath & Fiona. Having a vehicle with the room is not only a bonus but necessary. We would hesitate to stay there again.
