From being met by the host on arrival to the day of departure, our hosts could not have been more helpful and accommodating. The rooms are delightful and have absolutely everything you could possibly need. The meals was were excellent - pre dinner drinks & canapes a lovely touch. Breakfast was plentiful, fresh and served in the lovely dining area. Dinner was also fantastic using local produce and lovingly explained by Deanne. Only 5 minute walk to the "centre" of Oban
This is definitely the place to stay. Very modern and tastefully decorated. Beautiful view and incredibly quiet. Only three suites available so very private indeed. Wake up to song bird and sunrise right outside your window. Private deck with a bush backdrop peering through to harbour view. All the high level boutique touches: dressing gowns, slippers, all toiletries, fruit bowl, handmade baking, coffee machine, fridge, kettle, many tea varieties, power shower, hot water bottles, cable TV, comfortable king size bed and turndown service with chocolates. Beautiful restaurant with cooked breakfast included. Owners very friendly and even took us on a car tour of the town to show us around.
This is the most special place on earth. Not only is this gorgeous venue in a special unique place of New Zealand, this could in fact place itself anywhere in the world and still be the best accommodation and restaurant to ever visit. The accommodation is a private stand alone room with exceptional views and the house, which is semi attached, provides the best cuisine you will find worldwide. Chris and Deane make your stay very special from the time you arrive, well actually before that as our correspondence gave me reassurance that all our excursions and special requests were all organised, even before our arrival. We had 5 people in our group. Nothing is a problem here. Stewart island is blessed to have this place as a local. Breakfast was a feast. Even the bread, muffins and bacon are all hand made. Actually nearly everything here is grown or made by Deane and Chris. Dinner in their boutique restaurant is exceptional. The food is up there with the best cuisine we have tried worldwide. I can’t recommend this place enough. If you want to go to Stewart island, book here and let them organise everything. I did and wouldn’t do it any other way. Thanks Deane and Chris. …
Not being in our first youth we were not off hiking through the bush but needed to enjoy Stewart Island closer to home. Our hosts Deanne and Chris picked us up and dropped us back at the Flight Centre despite both being outside our booking time and had also arranged our Rental Car. Deanne is a miracle chef creating everything from crayfish or whitebait fritters to fig and date steamed pudding to die for. Happy hour hosted by Chris in the evening meant a chance to chat with other guests and retell our days adventures. Our unit with a harbour view was modern, attractive and super comfortable. What more could you ask for !
We recently spent a couple of weeks in New Zealand including three nights on Stewart Island. I don't know if we booked late (we were several months in advance of our stay) but we could only find a couple of Air B&B's, some backpacker's lodges and this place with availability. Church Hill was definitely the most expensive but seemed to offer a superior level of service so we took a chance and booked. That decision was so valuable. In staying at Church Hill you not only get an amazing location and property but you also get the small and local touches that make staying here so worthwhile. They also have the best restaurant on the island (there are only like four on the whole island) and you are guaranteed a table each night if you choose while staying here.
