Detailed Reviews
We stayed at Villa del Lago for four nights during our trip to New Zealand. This was a perfect place for us with a glorious view of Lake Wakatipu positioned to enjoy both sunrises and sunsets. Our condo was beautifully appointed, contained all the amenities you could want (washer, dryer, dishwasher), was immaculately clean and so private. The bed was very comfortable and the shower had great pressure with hot water - very important to us. The location was also great - about a 25 minute walk to the Queenstown City Center and the botanical garden. We were well located for day trips that included fishing and sightseeing in Glenorchy. The place was comfortable enough to want to just stay and enjoy the views.

We recently stayed for a week in an one bedroom unit which is at the bottom of the complex and closest to Lake Wakatipu. The view was fantastic and easy access to a jetty and small beach at the front of the property. The walking track which led into Queenstown was directly below the property. It was a quiet location and no road noise. Check in instructions were clear.
The kitchen was well equipped and the unit had a washer/dryer. As noted by others, the apartment is not serviced during your stay but they did supply plenty of dishwasher, washing and bathroom needs. Yes there are lots of signs but obviously this is because people have not done the right thing. The heated floor in the bathroom kept that area lovely and warm and there was a gas fireplace in the lounge. The cleaning fee was annoying but we did save money by booking direct with the property and we were aware that it was charged.
The driveway and parking is not for the faint hearted - it is a quick turn off the main road. Due to the steep nature of the site there is a hairpin bend to access the bottom level parking. The carpark itself is a tight space. There were a few flights of stairs to our room which did not bother us at all but may be problematic for others.
Recommended.

Property was mostly as expected and we enjoyed a lovely 5 night stay. Great views. Very pleasant walk into Queenstown and a short drive when traffic allows. There are no restaurants close to this property but plenty in Queenstown and at Five Mile.
Kitchen was well equipped, beds very comfortable and linen spotless but only one bath towel per person which made heated towel rails a bonus.
We had a 2 bedroomed villa with the lounge/kitchen on one level and the bed and bath rooms below. This meant that during the day, using the bathroom meant negotiating and flight of stairs.
A warning, if you are taking a three bed villa, the third bedroom is located above the lounge area and the bathroom is two levels down. Quite an inconvenience in the middle of the night.

For the prices charged, I anticipated a premium experience which was not provided. I stayed 2 nights in a Lakeview corner suite. The views to the Remarkables are great, and the bathroom was modern and clean. However, I thought the rest of the apartment was a little tired in appearance, with some marks on the walls, a door latch completely absent in the bedroom door and furnishings which were a little meh, overall. In addition, I noticed on my first night that there was a stain on the kitchen floor and also a dark stain on the wall. I was able to remove both with a cloth and also had a very quick response from one of the property’s team the next morning after I flagged my concern, who offered to come in that day and clean the floor, which I really appreciated.
The property advertises that it has Smart TVs but I found that they would not connect to the internet. When I asked about this on my second day, I was initially told that they would stop by and resolve this connection issue but then a short while later received a message from a different person advising me that they did not connect at all and one needed an HDMI cable to connect to your own device to watch Netflix, Prime, etc. I have since found this is referenced on the facilities tab of their own website, but it was not listed on the individual apartment booking page, or on the booking site I used to make my reservation. So it is small print that is easy to miss, as Smart TVs by very definition implies that you can watch Apps directly on the TV without an HDMI connection to another device. Disappointing. I had also enquired about the advertised BOSE iPod docks and was told I was incorrect about seeing that on their website - so I sent a screenshot showing otherwise, and at this point also expressed that I was a little disappointed in these responses (both style and substance). I then received a link from the manager, Charlotte, to a Guardian article about how to be a good tourist, and with a paragraph quoted for my attention about “basic manners” and not being an “entitled traveller”.
Other minor niggles - i) the overall costs included a cleaning fee of 162 NZD and there is some clumsily worded info about how to ensure you remove and sort your rubbish down to the bins at the end of the property before departure, leave the property tidy and a warning that any exceptional cleaning may incur additional charges, ii) there are a lot of stairs and I would have struggled carrying my case up and down them (the alternative is a very steep road), iii) in the Lakeview corner apartment I stayed in, there is no way to see the tv from the sofa without the fireplace mantel obstructing your view; and iv) there is no place / offering to store your luggage once you have left apartment - I was however offered a late checkout of 11am which was better than nothing as my flight was late afternoon.
In summary, I have been travelling in NZ for 3 weeks and am familiar with, and sympathetic to, the staff shortage issue in hospitality. However, for the rates Villa Del Lago charge I believe you could find somewhere much friendlier in Queenstown which does not literally insult you for thinking that you might enjoy some premium features for their hefty price tag.

Brilliant views over the lake and very peaceful. Our room was missing an iron but the staff went out of their way to find me one which I really appreciated. It was very useful to have a washing machine and tumble dryer on site. There's no issue with accessibility if you are fit and able but not all rooms will be suitable for those who have mobility issues. Well stocked kitchen with everything we needed and a 30 minute walk into Queenstown which suited us really well.

Everything about this accommodation was amazing! It is perfectly located in a central location, not too far from town or the airport. The views over the lake are fantastic, we had a lakefront suite, it was just perfect. I’d visited NZ for my 50th birthday and this was such a great place to spend it. The accommodation had everything needed, it was homely and comfortable with everything you could need, parking was good and waking up and seeing the lake every morning, sitting on the terrace was magical. Great support and communication with the booking team throughout, they’ve put so much time into making this place great. I would go back there tomorrow! Thank you ⭐️

We had a lovely experience staying three nights at the VDL - the one bedroom unit was spotlessly clean, it is a large size with modern decor and also has a good size kitchen fully equipped with appliances, crockery, laundry facilities, includes heating and a gas fireplace. VDL has an amazing view of the lake and it is conveniently located close to CBD, airport, and shopping centres. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend.

Very spacious units with everything we needed for a 3 night stay. The location is out of town a bit (5 minute drive) but you are rewarded by a great location and view. Would have been good to have fly wire screens on the main doors to enjoy the breeze etc but this is a strange quirk in NZ, for some reason no-one has them! Not a cheap place for a couple and the cleaning fee when you depart is a bit odd but was advertised at booking. Still recommended if you want something better than a hotel room.

We arrived late afternoon to a key box with parking intructions. Our designated bay was taken. From the office it was 40 steps down the hill to the villa. The offer to help with carrying the bags up did not eventuate with no one in the office on departure day. I questioned the $127 added cleaning fee on the 2nd day of 3 when we arrived back to an unswept floor. With no broom provided the least the cleaning fee should include sweeping the floor. The Villa's are close to the CBD and the walkway that ran just metres from our villa made for a nice walk to town. We feel that more information should be given about the concrete outside steps to get to the Villa. The jetty shown online was a feature we didnt see, probably because the banks are overgrown. The Villa was well appointed and having a washing machine, dryer and a clothes rack was excellent. Being lake front accommodation the jet boats with many people on board doing donuts in front of the villa from early morning vastly detracted from the quiet of the place.

Hi and thanks for your review. Prior to Covid we used to operate a Reception from 8.15am to 7pm 7 days per week. With border closures and few New Zealand guests, our business has been gutted and we simply cannot afford to operate a fully staffed Reception anymore. We have been running at a loss for the past year. We explained in our welcome letters that we do apologise that we may not be there to greet you. There are no 'designated' parking spots. We show a map with parking areas, and guests are free to park in whichever parking space is available. We specify on all of our sites that there are external flights of stairs to all of our 1 bedroom Suites. If you would like help with your bags, we would need to set this up with our housekeeping team in advance. We conduct a daily service, details of which are specified inside the apartment. This includes making beds, taking away rubbish, wiping down tables and replacing amenities and replacing towels if they are on the floor. We don't do dishes and vacuum unless you stay for for more than 4 nights, then we do a full mid stay clean. We provide a dustpan and brush under the sink for floor crumbs. In order to lower our rates from pre-covid levels and ensure our housekeeping costs are covered, we had to add the cleaning costs as an added extra. This is very common with Airbnb bookings. We pay our staff the living wage and the cleaning fee only just covers the cost of staff, amenities and linen. The jetty is on the lakefront and the section is very steep. There are stairs down to the beach and jetty. There are beech trees between the beach and Villa del Lago.

The hotel is located at one of the best place. I visit QT every year and this one was one of the closest to the lake. The rooms were very clean but little older and I understand the hotel is renovating slowly just to give a fresh look. The room was very private not many guests. Easy parking was available and yes stairs are there but manageable. The kitchen was fully equipped, we didn’t use it though. The hotel staff made our visit very nice by looking after small things like heater was switched on when we arrived in the afternoon, room service was 100%. We did not see the staff- I think it was contactless stay for us. Well done. And thank you for delivering excellence

Thank you for your stay during these very unusual times. Although we've had to pull back some of our trademark personal warm welcomes, we've tried to maintain a sense that you are being cared for by our team, even though they are not as visible as before. So thank you for your feedback, it helps the team feel they are doing it right!

No they don’t
Parking is tight but we had a med/large car and there were larger ones which fitted in adequately as well. All apartments to the best of my knowledge had lake views so if you don't mind some steps, the access to the lake path into Christchurch is the same.
The best supermarket is the one next to the airport, it's called New World and is in a collection of shops behind all the rental cars. Villa del Lago hires bikes for tenants so I am sure they can help you out.
We stayed here at Christmas, one bedroom apartment. Fantastic view of the lake and you could walk into Queenstown in about 20 minutes along the pathway below the apartments. Quiet and enjoyed the stay very much.
I think all the above summarises the situation. Not sure where the enquirer lives but air con basically not required
