On arrival ,no help with luggage from car to reception as per many hotels we have stayed in.
Girl on reception/check in not at all welcoming.
Asked about parking our car,Told free parking out on the street (good luck with that) or $25 per day)Limited spaces due to hotel refurbishment (Badly needed).
“Here’s your room key”Basically go and find it yourself.
Booked a balcony room.Got a key to level 2 with a shared balcony,Not what we booked
Back to reception.Given level 4.Great view.Do not accept room 404 before entry door is fixed as it lets enough light through to let you think you have left a light on or haven’t closed the door properly.
Be aware there is a conference room on level 5 and can be a little noisy.
Room small and needs an upgrade (apparently near future) Not enough storage space for 2 on a longer stay, shower in the bath ,not acceptable.
Buffet breakfast well worth it and that staff were excellent every day.
Housekeeping unpredictable.
Location fantastic though balcony rooms do incur road traffic noise.
Not entirely satisfied being under the Rydges brand, having stayed at others in various countries.
Look forward to hotels managements generic response.

Hi, thank you for taking the time to share your review, sorry to hear you did not have the best welcoming. our front desk staff do try their best to get out to as many guests as possible. Parking with the hotel is $25 per night in which we stay level with the rest of Queenstown, we are lucky to be located on a road that still has free parking available which is very practical for guests staying here. we have a range of different balconies through the hotel so we can offer to various needs, sorry to hear you did not enjoy the larger shared balcony. we will pass your comments on to the breakfast team as they work very hard to make breakfast amazing every day. we hope to see you one day again soon after our hotel has completed the refurbishment, and you can enjoy our new fresh look, once again thank you for your comments kind regards Rydges team

Stayed here for conference and the service was very poor and cleanliness was not good . Our room was not very clean the dirty glass in the draw , the blanket was stained and ripped and there were hairs in the bath. Our TV was not working and took two phone calls and 45 minute wait to get it sorted. We ordered room service on the Friday night at 9.30 pm . after lots of phone calls first to room service who then would not answer the phone and reception who promised to call us back and never did. We waited 1.5 hours for food with an extremely rude guy on reception who thinks it is appropriate to yell and scream at guest . We had fiends also staying at this hotel who tried to order room service and they were told there there was on one there to cook any and that they would have to go to Mc Donald’s. They were two elderly ladies who should not be having to walk out in Queenstown at 11 pm at night This hotel is grossly understaffed, no one manning reception for 15 mins, rude staff . I asked to speak to someone about it this on Saturday afternoon was told that someone would contact me in 20 mins. Still waiting .To top it all of there was a tray of food out side our room in the corridor for 3 days .

For the price paid here I was expecting a lot more. We booked a standard room and were ‘upgraded’ to a lake view room. While the views were nice, the traffic outside was horribly noisy. The rooms are not soundproofed well either and we could hear those either side of us all night. The temperature was far too warm in the rooms with no way to control it so we ended up having to open the balcony door which just added to the noise. The bathroom was honestly gross. The bath/shower is small and my partner could not fit under the shower head. The shower walls had other peoples black hair on them and the bottom of the bath was chipping off. Also, no fan in the bathroom? It feels like a mould disaster waiting to happen, every time we showered the whole room was basically wet from steam (there was a big chlorine smell when we arrived so at least they are stopping mould growth).
The bed was made up of 2 twins put together (standard in hotels, I know) but I could feel the join where they met all night and it made for a very unpleasant sleep, despite the beds themselves being quite comfortable.
The best thing about this hotel is the breakfast. The omelettes were fantastic and there were a lot of choices, everything I had was great.
The staff are all lovely and doing a great job considering the staff shortages.
To continue charging rates like this they really need to upgrade the rooms (including soundproofing).

I recently stayed at Rydges Lakeland Resort, Queenstown In January. I was very hopeful about this stay as I was taking my adult daughter to join me for her first NZ holiday. I paid for two separate rooms.
I was bitterly disappointed. I paid over two thousands dollars for the short stay there and, as a Rydges member, I expected better. I will not stay any Rydges again because of this experience. I have tried to reach out to management via a complaint form but error messages keep coming up and the form will not send.
Let me outline a few reasons why. Breakfast was expensive $39 each from recall - full buffet. The variety was underwhelming but more the point, the food was cold to eat. The service was poor to say the least. Our rooms were 'ok but not all together clean. I had a hole in the side of my mattress and stains on the floor (I have photos). My room opened to a large shared balcony when I thought we both had rooms with individual balconies. Anyone could peer into our rooms. There was refurbishment happening around the building and no one informed me. It was noisy, busy with workmen and impossible to park.
I consider paying a substantial amount of money to be surrounded by building scaffolding and workmen not a reasonable ask. I am not after discounts but asking full price is almost a bit steep considering the mess around the hotel.
Our rooms servicing was appalling. The first day I asked reception later in the day if our rooms would be serviced and the answer from reception was they will send someone immediately - should I have had to ask that question? The second day, servicing happened around 4.30pm when we had arrived back from a day trip and my daughter had a migraine - I left my room for servicing - again, not reasonable and no apology.
My daughter decided to have a bath and there was a large kitchen sink plug for the bath which would not fit. She went to reception and asked for a plug and received the reply - 'Not sure we have a plug to fit'. Eventually they took a plug from another room but the inconvenience whilst my daughter was feeling unwell was not welcome. Cleanliness of the room was adequate but not up to standard. I refused to eat breakfast there again and we went elsewhere. When I spend over $2000 dollars for a few nights at a hotel, I expect better. The location of the hotel is beautiful, but to command the price they do for sub par rooms is disappointing and wrong. In many ways, this spoilt the first half of our holiday and this distressed me as this was a special gift for my daughter. I won't be going back there again.

Stayed four nights at this hotel. An easy walking distance from the hotel to town. We had a nice, large room with separate lounge area, a huge bathroom including a bath and a fabulous lake view. The two queen beds were very comfortable and housekeeping was always early to tidy the rooms. Nice bar with nightly happy hour and a fantastic view of the lake. Paid parking in the outside parking area was always available during our stay. Unfortunately, we experienced a couple of negatives during our stay ~ we had to wait half an hour to enter our room upon arrival even though it was after 3.00pm and one afternoon there was no wi-fi access or TV for a few hours.

Dear Mazjoy, Thank you for taking your time to leave your thoughts on your stay, we are glad to hear you particularly enjoyed the close proximity to town, the size of the room and bathroom and the lake view from the room. We will ensure we pass on the positive feedback about the housekeeping and bar to the appropriate managers. We are sorry to hear about the wait on the room and the Wi-Fi outage that affected your room for a few hours. We do sincerely hope to welcome you back in the future.

We stayed for 15 nights over Christmas and New Year and wished we hadn’t. We booked a lake view suite which did have a view over the lake but the room itself left a lot to be desired. Very dated and no aircon which surprised us in that grade of hotel, just an electric fan. Also lack of storage place for clothes, only a sliding wardrobe. We had to use floor space for some of our clothes. There were several days where our towels weren’t replaced, milk pots not refilled, coffee sachets not refilled, bins not emptied, body wash not refilled, need i go on. Our first night we walked into the town for something to eat and got back at 9.30pm for a drink in the bar before bed and to help us with our jet lag. We were told the bar was shut despite on the door stating open 2pm - late. The bar closed early every night we were there apart from New Year’s Eve. There is a restaurant, which we never ate in, but not open Monday and Tuesday. The main restaurant open for breakfast but not dinner which I found incredible considering it was the height of the season. There was piped loud music in the corridor of the 6th floor but not sure why. We were offered a $10 per day off in the bar if we didn’t have our room serviced which we found an insult and declined. The cost of our stay was highly overpriced, we expected better for our money. On a positive note the reception staff were excellent and sorted our lack of towels etc whenever we needed them. Needless to say we wouldn’t go back or recommend.

We transferred to this hotel for 3 days in Queenstown after our original hotel reported night roadworks immediately outside.

We didn't first check the reviews. Having later done so, we desperately tried to book elsewhere, but the whole town was booked out.

Upon arriving were were pleasantly surprised by the location and the presentation of the lobby. Expecting our room to be a disaster, we ventured to the 3rd floor to find our Lake View King room. Another pleasant surprise. The room was quite nice. Yes, it's a bit 90s, but everything was clean and tidy. The bathroom was a reasonable size and also clean. Amenities were satisfactory. We had a small private balcony with furniture, but it was the view directly down the lake which clinched it.

There's no kitchenette or table in the room for breakfast. There is a kettle and the standard bar fridge to store some milk.

The beds were comfortable. As others have stated, there is no aircon, but this seems to be pretty common in the NZ south island from my experience. Despite being on the main road, the nights were quiet, so opening the windows was not a problem.

The staff were all quite polite and helpful when required. The hotel in general is clean, well organised, and well presented.

The best part of the hotel is its location. It is a level 5 minute walk to the tourist district around Steamer Wharf, but the hotel is far enough away to avoid the noise of the tourist activity.

Parking was free and adequate, as long as you don't wait until too late in the afternoon. If we hadn't been able to park onsite, we would have been in for an almighty walk back to our room. The streets are lined with cars for hundreds of metres in all directions from the main hotel and tourist strip.

All in all, I would happily stay at Rydges Queenstown again, provided I'm on level 3.

Even though we booked our trip early last year we arrived to be told we had been moved to a different hotel due to maintenance issues of which they couldn't elaborate on !! Reception staff were very unhelpful and basically couldn't care. They said they had no contact info for us to advise us of situation before our arrival.
We eventually spoke to a ?manager who said we had been upgraded at the new hotel. They quickly organised a taxi to take us there but we arrived to be told they had booked us a standard room . We booked a king-size lakeside view room and ended up with a double groundfloor carpark view !
The staff at the Novotel were fantastic and moved us the next day to a garden room with balcony they were so apologetic for our situation.

Was placed here as our original hotel cancelled our booking. Having read the reviews I was somewhat concerned. However, this is an excellent hotel. Ample parking. The reason why they charge to park is that the car park area is council owned and the hotel has to pay $15 for every car parked. The reception staff were welcoming and helpful. Our room was clean and we had our own secure balcony with furniture. The bathroom was perfectly adequate (not sure why people say it is small. What do they want to do in there!) No noise was heard from adjoining rooms. No A/C, but there was a fan and the windows opened. Breakfast was incredible with an abundance of staff clearing tables. The view is amazing. 5 minutes walk into town. Ignore the negative nit-pickers and have a great stay at this hotel.

No air conditioning, rather tatty room, supposed (premium cost) lake view suite just looked out onto a wall. For the price >$450NZ per night grossly over priced and under delivered. Reception and lift lobby very upmarket but room very basic and certainly NOT worth the price. Very odd bathroom too.

Queenstown, New Zealand
Hello Lisa, Thank you for reaching out to us with your questions, we are more than happy to answer all of these for you. Our swimming pool is an outdoor heated swimming pool that is accessible for all guest use from 9am to 9pm. Bazaar Breakfast Restaurant has been reopened for quite some time now, they are no longer serving dinner as the use to but in two weeks' time we are opening Lil Red as a dining option as currently we do only have Reds Bar open for dinner. As for our recommendation for snow shuttles etc, we recommend using we recommend using either the Info & Snow Queenstown or NZ Ski websites to help you book packages and collect information on the mountains in terms of our most trusted ski rental provider we tend to prefer using Browns Ski Shop, we do also have a discount code that we are able to provide to all guests. We sincerely hope this helps and answers all of your questions!

Dear Guest, as of currently we do not have air conditioning, however all the rooms do have fans in them. The hotel has had a couple other names throughout its 50 years of service.
