This hotel is in a fantastic location just a few easy minutes walk along the lake edge into town and all that has to offer. On check-in (great staff on reception) we were allocated a small dark room with a double bed like the one your granny used to sleep in (it was a tiny double). There was a musty smell in both the room and the corridor... that smell that only exists in hotels that are long since past their best. The wood veneer mismatched furniture was chipped and peeling and despite it being a lovely warm day, the room was cold and uninviting. It didn't take long for me to whip out the phone and start checking availability at other hotels in the area. Fortunately after enquiring with the reception staff about a less depressing room with a bigger bed, we were moved a couple of floors down to a brighter room with fewer chips and cracks in the furniture and a nice queen sized bed. The room smelt vaguely of wee and the bathroom looked like it was new in 1985.The fridge defrosted itself and leaked water all over the carpet... we reported it to reception... they said they'd dry it out... they didn't. The room was quiet and had an amazing view over the lake and I couldn't fault the staff but the hotel is so dated and tired, I won't be making a repeat booking. Not up to the standard I'm used to with Rydges hotels. Oh and there was no AC in our room so had it been earlier in the year, I can imagine it would be hideous, especially at night.

Check in was 3pm but we were told the room wasn't ready. It finally was at 4.30pm which wasn't ideal after a full day of travel and not being able to freshen up before dinner plans elsewhere at 5pm. The reception staff were very slow at processing check ins and there was quite a few people waiting they had three people on which I thought was enough for the 10 people waiting in line. When we checked out out the person at reception answered a phone call and was on it for over three minutes in between serving me which I felt was rude. The rooms are dated but very comfortable and clean. The buffet breakfast was nice and lots on offer. The bar was closed on day of check in so we couldn't even wait there and it was also closed Saturday evening before 10pm which we thought was unusual.

thank you for taking the time to write this review, i apologise on the delay of your check in time, unfortunately on the busier days of the hotel, there can be a rare occasion where our teams are slightly behind, the reception staff work very hard at ensuring all the correct information is passed onto to each guest during check in to make there stay as comfortable as possible, the team treat all guests equally and this does include answering the phone for guests who have enquiries or making new bookings, its nice to see you enjoyed the buffet breakfast, our chefs are very proud of the fantastic spread they manage to deliver every morning thanks again

Friendly staff, great location, nice breakfast restaurant and roof top bar. Facilities rather tired and in need of investment, bathrooms badly finished (couldn't open shower screen due to towel rail location). Excellent value for the location and what was included.

What a let down after a fantastic day in Queenstown. Went to book in just after 3pm and our room wasn't ready. So we thought we'd wait in the bar and have cold beer. Nope, bar's not open!! We did actually book so they knew we were coming

The web site says paid parking be aware that it is first come first served so in Queenstown's busy period you could find it very difficult parking !!!! Because you cannot pre book it which means you take your chances when you arrive.

thank you for your response on our carpark facility, The hotel has limited paid carparking spaces therefore we can not take pre bookings, however our staff on the reception desk are very well organised in using as much space as possible to accommodate as many guests with vehicles as possible. The road the hotel is located on is free parking with no time limits thank you
