I agree with earlier reviews that the hotel is due for refurbishment and renovations in places. But. It is a beautiful hotel, still. For this price, where else in this area can you get a table at breakfast and dinner with those views, or sit by a stone fireplace with a glass of wine with those views, or snag a room with those views? It's right next door to a hospitality training facility, and if any students are training at the hotel, they are putting in a lot of effort to be good at what they do: service overall was excellent, and almost all the staff we encountered were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Special thanks to all three of the breakfast managers we encountered for all their help with dietary requirements, and to Hannah, Anu, and Mercedes at reception. I was perfectly happy to trade off the ageing decor and extra two minutes' drive out of Queenstown for a great rate, warm and friendly service, incredible views, and all the facilities of what is essentially still a five star hotel if you have the mindset to see it for what it is. We extended our stay by several days and would happily stay here again.
Tips: Plenty of gluten free options. The walk into Queenstown is much shorter than Google maps suggests, but it is uphill for the first two hundred metres and will take longer for younger walkers or those with adaptive needs. Coming back is mostly uphill from the lake, or it's a couple of stops on the bus from the Crowne Plaza bus stop to the Heritage bus stop, and a short uphill walk from there. Or get off at the next stop and it's an easy 4 minute downhill walk instead. There's a beautiful walk down to the lake esplanade via the trail just past the Heritage bus stop -- much nicer than the sidewalk, and my kids loved it.

We had a king room on ground 04, the view of the lake was fantastic and uninterrupted, actually felt like you were sitting in a movie viewing the wide screen, we moved our lounge chairs to face the window and had premier seats. The king bed was great with 4 pillows to choose from, room safe and fridge and tea making facilities available, tea&coffee replaced daily. The bathroom was adequate, perhaps a little outdated from what you expect from a modern Mercure, amenities were refreshed daily. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We dined twice in the restaurant, the menu is currently limited as they are still getting over from covid and need more guests and kitchen staff, and the view is fantastic. There are washing machines and dryers available on the ground floor for a modest fee. The only drawback was the fan in our air conditioning unit did not operate so it only pushed out a modest amount of hot or cold air. Its a fair walk back to the town, and coming back its a steep uphill climb for the last 500 metres so you need to be fit

Firstly, let me preface this review by adding that (most hotels, restaurants, bars and shops) are experiencing severe staff shortages due to unprecedented demand after Covid. Almost every venue in Queenstown has an advertisement looking for staff on their respective windows.
At check in, we had to wait a little as there were a few guests waiting to check in, and only one staff member available to do so. She, like all the staff we encountered was exceptionally friendly, and apologised for the wait.
Our Superior King Lake View room was as requested, with a lake view, and in a quiet area of the hotel. Many Thanks.
Yes the Hotel is a bit dated, and could do with a refresh, but the Wifi was great, the bar fully stocked, and the location to die for. We did not use the pool, spa or restaurant, so I cannot comment on these.
The bed, mattress topper and pillows were perfect, and allowed a refreshing sleep.
We followed the hotel suggestion of being friendly to the environment, so elected to change our towels etc every second day. I don’t mind using the “pump” sprays for shampoo and conditioner, but would have still liked a cake of soap in the shower.
Although located a little way from town, grab a “bee card” and use the local bus for $1 each way with the bus stop about 150m from the hotel. Don’t mind the hill!
Overall, a nice stay, but again, the hotel needs a bit of a makeover, but that would be hard to do now that the pent up demand for travel is back. Perhaps this makeover could have been done during the Covid period?
The view is amazing!

We stayed at the Mercure in both late-August and September at the start and end of our holiday to New Zealand. The hotel is a little drive out of the town centre... theoretically, a pleasant 7 minute drive around the lake, however, the Queenstown city council, in its infinite wisdom, has replaced several roundabouts with traffic lights, and this is currently causing terrible traffic jams in and out of town. Both times we stayed, the rooms were spacious and comfortable with stunning views. Staff were friendly and helpful. On several occasions, we drank at the bar, which was pleasant, moderately priced, and with another stunning view during the day. The bar snack menu of pizzas, burgers, and fries were suited to apres skiers. We ate dinner at the Vista restaurant, which was very good and priced at the high end of our dining experiences. Parking was not a problem compared to finding a car park in central Queenstown... my advice is to catch an Uber for the $10-$15 price tag... definitely worth it. We would recommend the Mercure.

Likes - The view from the room was amazing. The view from the restaurant was brilliant.
Disliked - The staff couldn't accomodate us checking in early. We had one room of family that was considerable distance away. All the corridors felt like you were in a dungeon. The lift is old and antiquated. The ordering of food at the pool for kids is non-existent. They staff are not accomodating. The cleaners had to use the guest lifts. The corridors are not wide enough for cleaner equipment and guests. The hotel is poorly signed internally. There was a constant lack of towels at the pool. We struggled to get a luggage trolley on two different occasions and had to wait 15 minutes on both occasions. The outside ramp for the luggage trolley is difficult and uneven. The food at the hotel is extremely expensive and not worth the money, definately explains the constant Uber Eats deliveries to the hotel. The rooms are seriously outdated and in need of upgrading. Toilet door hits the toilet when opened. Shower heads are low pressure and do not give an enjoyable experience. Bathrooms have lots of signs of aging and deteriotion. Kids and teenagers constantly running up and down the corridors prevents quests from getting a decent night sleep.

The views across Lake Wakatipu are absolutely stunning. Without this natural wonder, Mercure Resort Queenstown would not rate well at all. Apart from a comfortable king sized bed, the rooms are very dated and come with stained carpets and lamp shades (pretty poor to be honest). The bathroom appeared to have had some kind of upgrade however, it was dreadful and looked cheaply finished. This place (like so many Australasian Accor Hotels) is in desperate need of a major upgrade. On top of this, I will no longer we striving to maintain Accor Gold status through exclusive loyalty to Accor. There is no room upgrades (ever) and late or early check ins/outs are minimal and in this case, provided after much reluctance. Tip, Accor Silver is the way to go and once reached try alternate accomodation offerings that rate far better.

Recently returned from a week stay at the hotel. We had a lake view room, which was a great size for 2 adults and 2 teenagers and the view was stunning! Only a shower in the bathroom which we preferred and everything was clean and well presented. We had great service from all the friendly staff we encountered. The bar had a happy hour 5-6 which we enjoyed, the view from the bar and outside terrace were again stunning. We even ate in the bar a few nights next to the fire. We ate breakfast every morning, the food was good but needed topping up constantly on the weekends due to the larger numbers guests. During the week we pretty much ate on our own.
This hotel is a 20min walk to central Queenstown, downhill is easy but uphill is hard. I like to think we are quite fit, but my goodness the hill is formidable from the Heritage. My watch thought I was having a heart attack at one point, though I was in ski gear at the time!! That being said we did it every single day and saw it a challenge before happy hour 😊. I would not do it with small children or if you are pushing a pram, but we just raced our teenagers. There is a bus that runs regularly from Queenstown to the Heritage and was about $4 pp. and taxis are plentiful.
But make no mistake this place is fabulous because of where it is situated, any closer or lower and you would not have the view or the quiet relaxed atmosphere . We are already planning another visit next year.

I feel really dissapointed to be writing this but there is just so much lacking at this hotel. We organised a 2 night family trip down, the booking on the phone and check in at reception were good. Unfortunately at just over $350nzl a night we were deflated. The room has spectacular views (where doesn't in Qtown) but the bathroom is dirty, with built up mould, there was hair in the bath on arrival, the shower has low water pressure and the toilet does not flush properly. The carpets are stained and the items in the room are very minimal ( 1 spoon, 2 cups, no forks, no mini bar, no toaster ect). We thought that we would see what the hotel restraunt had to offer, the menu was so so basic and the staff there were clearly lacking enthusiasm.... we went elsewhere so cannot comment on the food standard. I wanted to order room service, the scan QR in the room does not work, so I rang and guess what NO DESSERT available. The next morning I asked about shuttle into town which by the way the hotel does not offer, you can get a taxi for $15 or walk down the road to the local bus. The spas are nice, but not worth the effort in my opinion considering how cold you get outside in your swim suit.
I do think that there is a lot that can be improved at this hotel, it is a little out of town so people want it to have the wow factor and everything that they need. It would also be nice to see some concierge service and ticket booking staff.

Dear DarcyP, I am sorry to hear that we failed to meet your expectations. We are a family oriented mid-scale hotel with excellent views over the lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables Mountains. Our hotel rooms do not have any cooking facilities hence there are no microwaves or cutlery however we are more than happy to provide any cutlery, plates and minibar on request. Unfortunately we did have some flu and Covid related sickness like all the other businesses at the beginning of July so our focus was to ensure there are options available for our guest with the very little workforce we had available on site. The hotel is planning to start a shuttle service for our guests to be able to go in the town at regular intervals and hoping that it will be up and running by summer. We already have purchased a vehicle and are on the lookout for some eligible and available drivers. We value your feedback and will certainly use to ensure we prepare ourselves better to avoid any disappointment and it is our genuine hope that you will give us an opportunity to serve you better in the future. The views from the lake view rooms are amazing, but the entire hotel could really do with a massive refurbishment.
The corridors are old and smelly, the elevators are dingy, and the rooms, while clean, feel ancient. There are no modern amenities (USB ports, universal power sockets, light controls by the bed, etc). The lighting is also very harsh, old, bright white tube lighting - not what you want in a hotel room. The shower is also tiny and the bath towels provided are sized for small children, not adults.
All the staff we interacted with were very pleasant and went out of their way to help, but unfortunately for $500+ per night, I can't recommend this hotel.

Just out of the town, but a 30 minute walk into town, which is lovely with the views, the walk back is a little tough as it’s uphill. Good parking but I would imagine it can get exceptionally busy in the busy months. The hotel reception area was clean and modern, gorgeous views of the lake, a definite must if your staying here Rooms were clean tidy, and on the whole were nice, but you can see from the carpet that it does need a modernisation, the windows were still single glazed, so glade I’m not here in the winter months. Shower had a good flow of water but no pressure, beds were comfy. For the $$, you really are paying for the fact this place is in Queenstown, would expect more modern facilities for the price. Because you are out of town, there is not much around, so for food and drinks, it’s either the hotel or the walk, bus or drive into town. But if your want to visit Queenstown, its not a bad place to park yourself for a night or two, the views are stunning.

Hi. Yes there are laundry facilities. 4 NZD for a wash (detergent included) and 4NZD for the dryer.
We had air conditioning / heating in our room.
I'm sure if you request a king room with the fantastic views the reception staff will accommodate you.
It is quite a distance from the town to the hotel, all uphill. We used the bus ( up the steep from the hotel) on the main road outside the Heritage hotel. 5NZD each for the one way journey or 15 NZD for two people return with a GO card ( bought from the driver).
Some of our friends shared taxis- approx. 20 NZD
"Be prepared for heavy stop/start traffic into town, which may impact getting to the airport in time if you're running late. Plan for half hour delays."
