Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Likes - The view from the room was amazing. The view from the restaurant was brilliant. Disliked - The staff couldn't accomodate us checking in early. We had one room of family that was considerable distance away. All the corridors felt like you were in a dungeon. The lift is old and antiquated. The ordering of food at the pool for kids is non-existent. They staff are not accomodating. The cleaners had to use the guest lifts. The corridors are not wide enough for cleaner equipment and guests. The hotel is poorly signed internally. There was a constant lack of towels at the pool. We struggled to get a luggage trolley on two different occasions and had to wait 15 minutes on both occasions. The outside ramp for the luggage trolley is difficult and uneven. The food at the hotel is extremely expensive and not worth the money, definately explains the constant Uber Eats deliveries to the hotel. The rooms are seriously outdated and in need of upgrading. Toilet door hits the toilet when opened. Shower heads are low pressure and do not give an enjoyable experience. Bathrooms have lots of signs of aging and deteriotion. Kids and teenagers constantly running up and down the corridors prevents quests from getting a decent night sleep.

Hotel's Favourite
Stayed for 4 nights in 1 room facing superior lake view. Pros : - views, views & views!! AMAZING! No words to describe. Cons : - Hotel needs a major makeover e.g. the elevator which is very old style. Like in 80s or 90s. - Pillows are quite soft but its ok for me. But for those who prefer hard pillows, not sure if there are any selections - When i enter the room , theres always a unique kind of smell. Maybe staffs need to look at them. Otherwise, breakfast was simple and decent. Pls come to the hotel for the amazing views. Not sure if other hotels in queenstown will have these kind of views. But over here, its perfect to catch the sunrise and sunset. Abit of distance from the main town of Queenstown. But its a good 20- 30 mins walk uphill or downhill. Well you can consider as cardio. But those who have knee or leg issues, pls consider uber. Staffs are generally ok, but one or two staffs can be more friendlier. Not rude though. There are saunas as well but unisex. Hope can have separate males and females sauna.

Very friendly staff, clean and comfortable rooms, good breakfast buffet. We had to change our reservation due to issues with our flight and the hotel was very accommodating. Nicely located to Shotover St and superb views of the lake. Sufficient parking, too. Only drawback was the boiled water directive in Queenstown, but that was hardly the hotel's fault.

Room Tip: There was sufficient parking when we were there, but parking in Queenstown itself is at a premium.

We stayed at the Mercure in both late-August and September at the start and end of our holiday to New Zealand. The hotel is a little drive out of the town centre... theoretically, a pleasant 7 minute drive around the lake, however, the Queenstown city council, in its infinite wisdom, has replaced several roundabouts with traffic lights, and this is currently causing terrible traffic jams in and out of town. Both times we stayed, the rooms were spacious and comfortable with stunning views. Staff were friendly and helpful. On several occasions, we drank at the bar, which was pleasant, moderately priced, and with another stunning view during the day. The bar snack menu of pizzas, burgers, and fries were suited to apres skiers. We ate dinner at the Vista restaurant, which was very good and priced at the high end of our dining experiences. Parking was not a problem compared to finding a car park in central Queenstown... my advice is to catch an Uber for the $10-$15 price tag... definitely worth it. We would recommend the Mercure.

Extra long weekend to celebrate Birthday. Beautiful location overlooking water and snow capped mountains. Checkin efficient, though missing usual hotel information/ welcome. Discovered later staff were from another property helping out for staff could have a get together. Bar staff from Novotel - Tristan was amazing managing bar/restaurant. Remained calm and in control. Even managed to notice guests outside, rushing out to take photo for them. Truly he was a pleasure. Seating in restaurant, booked as requested and even better near a heating vent 😆 I’m always cold. Hotel was good, a little on pricey side. Was worth waking up to the mountains. Quick 15min walk to town, though on return back taxi/Uber needed to tackle the hill. Breakfast had a wide selection, care needed to ensure food was filled- there was a lag in food availability. The view of course was fantastic while you waited. Lucky to get window seating each time. Reception were always asking how our day was on our return. Overall an enjoyable stay.

My daughter stayed at Mecure Queenstown on a group ski school tour in June for 5 nights. We paid very good money for the stay and we expected the 4 star experience that this establishment is rated. That was not the reality. The food served was atrocious and at times inedible. One evening after a full days skiing the group was served noodles that were very poorly prepared and with no nutrition. (See photo) Do better Mercure!

This is a regular with us so that really sums up our opinion of the Mercure Queenstown. We come for an annual Seminar every Sovereigns Birthday Weekend for years other than during lockdown and feel it delivers in every way. The price increase in things like room service hurts but that just seems to be hospitality in NZ now.

Lake view rooms are perfect. The hotel is ok and as a Mercure, pricing is reflective in the higher end. It’s about a 20 minute walk into town which is downhill. To many sherbets and coming back I would recommend a lift. The local bus is halfway down the hill also. Bar staff and restaurant staff are smiling and helpful. Front desk need to take some learnings from them. Dinner 1 night was a nice meal accompanied by a nice wine and very pleasant service. Breakfast….save your money and head into town. You are paying for the view. Pay as you go as you don’t want a surprise when you check out.
