Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Unfortunately this place has the feeling of being a little rundown. The room and bed was great but the place was noisy at night , bathrooms , lounge kitchen ares very outdated and not very clean. For a budget traveler it may be OK although price per night was not. I wouldn't stay at this place again.

I booked this place based on prior reviews, and only writing this to provide current feedback. This property is very very tired and poorly maintained. Issues include mould in the shower, sink plug didn't work, frozen over icebox in the fridge (leaky seal most likely), bathroom extraction fan didn't extract, there was a short in the electrics as when you turned on the bathroom light the main lights switched on and off, rooms were dusty, the common area lounge was a disgrace with broken cupboards and no handles, broken window latches in room, showerhead not secure and fell down every use, cobwebs in property, indifferent front desk staff, threadbare towels, old uncomfortable beds - and all this for the glorious sum of $360 a night for 3 people. The only redeeming factor was that the property is a 5 minute downhill walk to town. Caveat emptor if you book this lodge.

Unfortunately the major roadworks in Queenstown going right past this 3 star hotel has not made it look very enticing to new arrivals. Roads closed and diversions in place. Arrived very early, reception not manned, obvious stag party enjoying beers outside at 11am - didn't bode well. Able to leave the car whilst we went into town, on return we were advised of current boil tap water advice in majority of Queenstown (Google it!). Room was adequate, carpet found to be wet on entry, strong fan blowing in corridor - purportedly for dust caused by roadworks but later spotted blowing on to a room which had been reported as smelling damp! There was no bath mat and the floor outside the shower got wet and became slippery. A/C / heating was great and warmed the room quickly when needed. Bed comfy and sheets and towels clean. Expected more from a 3*, didn't sample food so can't comment.

Room Tip: Probably best avoid until roadworks complete then check reviews.....need an overhaul and update!

This is the worst motel. Please do not stay here. The photos are misleading and do not represent the terrrible quality of the rooms. It is dirty, dingy and very sad. We took one look and walked away.

This is a moldy, damp, old, rundown, paper thin walled, heating barely working hostel/hotel/lodge that is charging the same as modern nearby hotels. My partner and I got sick from the mold from staying here and as we did not complain during our time the hotel have not addressed our concerns(we checked into another hotel as we could not stay here for 9nights with the mold). We don't feel that we need to explain about basic standards a hotel/hostel should provide. They are clearly charging a high fee and not putting any money into the building. (Please check other google / booking reviews that talk about bed bugs at Melbourne Lodge)

Comfortable, clean and just what we needed after days of exploring and activities. Was apprehensive due to other reviews but really enjoyed our stay. Appreciated the heating in the room. Room was serviced daily. View from the guest lounge was lovely. Check in and check out were easy. And although up a hill, only a short 5-10min walk to centre of town.

On arrival we and other clients refused to check in or stay at this run down dirty and poor standard of accommodation versus its website publicity which is misleading at the best and extreme misrepresentation or fraud. On refusing to accept the booking on site the member of staff mr Jack Singh assured is and four other disgruntled clients of a full reimbursement within 2 to 4 days via the Expedia electronic process we had initially booked on. Sadly that assurance, some several weeks later, has failed to materialise. On communication with Expedia this matter is still ongoing with the Melbourne Lodge now claiming and such agreement with myself and four other clients to reimburse the full payment. Dishonesty and unacceptable behaviour to tourists that provides no confidence at all in the integrity of this management of Melbourne Lodge. In whatever dispute now continues in legal terms I am confident our refusal to accept such sub standard accomodation versus its webpage publictiy was the correct route for us and those other clients. Read ALL reviews linked to this accommodation and reflect on the critical items versus positive items is a must.

Disappointing, smell if curry on our arrival, don’t get me wrong I love a curry and cook them myself, but don’t want it when I am staying in a motel. Room was small, and basic, shower ok, no ordinary tea bags, just earl grey and green tea. Bed very soft, insufficient pillows.

This is undoubtedly the worst motel I have ever stayed at in New Zealand. I should have known. It wasn’t boding well when I walked into the Reception area and noted how dirty the carpet was, the walls badly chipped and marked and the sweet, sickly, permeating smell of many a previously cooked meal. Shown to our room (which we had upgraded from a ‘shared bathroom’ set up to an ensuite room for an extra $60), our senses were assaulted by the smell of a ‘plug-in’ wall air freshener that was so strong it had us wondering what it was trying to mask. Shabby, old, tired and bashed furniture, snagged and dirty bed bases with no valences, light switches that clearly hadn’t seen cleaning products for a while, we decided to leave. We were offered a further upgrade to a bigger room and as we couldn’t find anything nearer to our next days meeting point, we hesitantly took it. Very little change at all. Weary from our travels, we decided to stick it out. It was only the next morning, in the light of day, that I really paid attention to some of the finer details I missed the night before. The photos will give the reader an idea. This place is a dump and I hope our overseas tourists don’t think the rest of our hoteliers operate at this level.

My Family stayed here from 28th December 2022 until 4th January 2023. In a Family Room. The Rooms were well kept and quite modern. We were made to feel very welcome and all the Staff were very obliging and helpful. The Lodge was better than some Motels we have stayed in. Thankyou for our stay Melbourne Lodge. We will be back.
