Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

We stayed at the Hilton Queenstown for 11 nights in August/September 2023. It was our first time in Queenstown and my first time seeing snow! The hotel is well appointed with everything you expect from a Hilton. The room was spacious, we had a King with a gas fireplace and a little balcony. The balcony was disappointing in that all the rooms face the Lake however the afternoon sun beams down and makes it virtually impossible to enjoy. The location is fantastic, across the lake from the city centre there was no hustle and bustle just peace and quiet. Although we had hired a car we took advantage of the boat taxi into Queenstown several times, very enjoyable and accessible from the jetty outside the hotel. The breakfast was good, we also had dinner in the hotel restaurant which was also lovely. We will stay here again.

Hotel's Favourite
Peaceful setting on the lake makes it a wonderful location for a hotel. Only 5 minutes from the airport. A water shuttle direct to Queenstown picks up in front of the hotel. I used valet parking and my car was always ready when requested. I had two different rooms types during my stay, both were awesome. The Lake Wakatipu Suite which was quite comfortable and nice sized bath and a King room that also faced the lake. Room was clean and no noise from other rooms. Fast reliable wifi. Wakatipu Grill in the hotel served an amazing lamb dish and nice wine choices. Cooked carrots were amazing and tender. For a hotel restaurant this was exceptionally good! Property is a quiet wonderful base for exploring all that the Queenstown area has to offer.

Stayed for three nights after been transfer from the other Hilton hotel due to Reno work, the checkin. was good and we could access our room which was good the room it self which a king Hilton guest room with breakfast ,we were placed in a room which was dark never saw any sunlight had stain on the carpet and sofa had seen a better day needed a good clean as we notice when our room was serviced the mirror in the bathroom was not clean as it had marks from the previous day, Good we got water as they had water contamination issues in Queenstown so we brought filter water bottles Lifestream The breakfast was good could had done with more fruit options . The position of the hotel is away from Queenstown itself and yes it is quiet and restful but you come to see Queenstown and the water taxi for a couple both ways comes to a grand total of $40 you might as well drive your car in and then put up with road works and traffic congestion. When you drive your car down to drop your bags off is a issue as space is limited and if you taxis and other cars it becomes awkward and parking prices are valet park $40. a night or park your self $16 a night private car park or take your luck and park up the top of the main road and tramp up and down. Look I have stayed at Hilton all over the world and I am a Hilton honours member yes I did not mind staying here it was a experience . But I will most probably stay some where else location wise so you can access restraunts. etc without having to use the car. I did point the issues and gave feed back at check out. Happy travels.

The Hilton Queenstown was the perfect place for our Queenstown holiday. It's in a quieter area and Queenstown is just a short water taxi ride away. The room was comfortable and we had a great view of the lake. The restaurant downstairs has great food and atmosphere. I would definitely stay here again!

My husband and I had a great 3 night stay here recently. I had seen a lot of mixed reviews before we came and was apprehensive about whether we’d made a good choice of accommodation so I’ll add my thoughts in case they are helpful. We stayed in a King Wakatipu suite. They are located on the lakefront with unobstructed views. I understand that some rooms are advertised as lake view but if you aren’t in a suite then they might be slightly obstructed views. The room was massive and had everything we needed. It is still basic - they don’t have an info booklet like most hotels, it’s quite dark, there isn’t much milk for tea/coffee, not many bathroom extras like toothpaste/brush, sewing kit, shower caps etc. The bed and pillows are super soft so if you prefer a firm bed then this may not be for you. As per many of the reviews, the staff were all very friendly and helpful so they deserve lots of credit. If you don’t have your room made up (which we chose not to) you may just have to ask for extra coffee mugs and towels which they always promptly brought. Yes, the hotel is dated and could use some TLC but it just depends how much that will bother you. It’s mostly superficial stuff. We didn’t have any issues with not having hot water (like I saw in many reviews) - it was always great. Our fireplace didn’t work which was disappointing but I didn’t have enough motivation to get that chased up/sorted while we were there so that’s on me. The breakfast buffet was great every morning and a real highlight. The pool area is great too and always had lots of towels. They sell/top up Bee cards at reception which you can use for the water taxi. With a Bee card it’s $10 pp, per way. The taxis leave PROMPTLY so be sure to arrive at the jetty early. They leave every hour or two. This is not a 5 star hotel by international standards but for NZ it is. I like that it is on a tranquil side of the lake away from the main town and it is a lovely retreat.

We were in Queenstown for just a night as a couple and stayed at the Hilton - what a great hotel. The room was fantastic, one of the best breakfasts anywhere and a good range of restaurants. Location was handy to the airport - we walked - just about 25 minutes. The views were stunning next to the lake and we enjoyed a lovely run along the Frankton Arm foreshore walkway.

Good enough hotel but not exceptional, room was pleasant and the advertised lake view was tenuous given we were looking over the top of other buildings. Room was clean though and comfortable. Food in the restaurant was expensive and average quality. Biggest issue is location. It is Queenstown but is somewhat of a chore and expensive to get to the centre of things. They advertise a boat taxi but that is so infrequent as to be useless and taxi rides involve lots of congestion and expense. Overall OK but poor value and a hotel near town would have been better option.

Just ok resort hotel by the lake. It feels like you are in an old and huge cruise ship. It needs desperate hardware replacement. Especially the mattress. It's horrendous. Gosh We only booked 2 nights here. Also, there is room for breakfast spread. Other food venues were good. All the staff we encountered were friendly including the check in desk. We were offered only a paid upgrade through email but we rejected it. When we checked in we asked about a free upgrade for my Diamond status and the agent said there are no rooms available and they are totally booked for my stay. I also got tons of email and text during my stay if I wanted to book their spa service. It seems they only care about making revenues.

I booked this hotel back in March as a special place to celebrate a significant birthday for my eldest daughter. We booked a lake view twin deluxe room with fireplace with the intention of enjoying slow time with great views. Our first room was a king room (not twin) and the Lakeview was invisible due to the solid wooden balcony railings. Even on the balcony you had to look over an entire roof of pebbles. I went downstairs and expressed my disappointment and the Checkin person found me a ‘better’ room but did say we’d still have rooftop pebbles! The rooms were both brown, beige and very tired. Curtains had watermarks, kickboards chipped. The corridors are endless and they were cold. No in room dining. The staff were all very helpful and pleasant and the duty manager was very responsive to our request to check out the next day. Hilton need to spend money on this place to restore it to its former glory. They also need to show correct photos of the hotel as the website indicates the balconies have glass balustrades! Definitely photoshopped 😡. One other point, I could just about speak to the pilots as they took off from nearby Queenstown airport!
