This was our second stay at Mountain View, and we absolutely love the property. It truly is a home away from home for us. Jan and Tim are amazing hosts and lovely people. Very helpful, friendly, and yet were also mindful of our privacy. The house is in a beautiful rural location with amazing views of the Remarkables and surrounding countryside. The kitchen has all the amenities we could ever need, is warm and really comfortable. Queenstown, Arrowtown and Frankton are a short drive away, so for us the location is spot on, close, but still nice and private. The house is really well laid out for a large group like ours (10 adults), and family dinners around the large dining table were a great way to spend some added time together. We were blessed this time with snowfall to low levels, and waking up to everything covered in white was absolutely awesome. And the sunrises were stunning. We will definitely be back. Thank you Jan and Tim

Nestled in the hills just ten kilometers outside Queenstown, New Zealand, Mountain View Lodge is the quintessential end-of-the road hideaway so many travelers seek -- but, alas never find. It is isolated. It is quiet. It is Jack Kerouac's far west fire station lookout where he went to write in the 1950's. Surrounded by the South Island's drop-dead gorgeous mountains, this fully-equipped lodge has every modern amenity a visitor could require. Moreover, for those so inclined, it is a short vehicle ride to the hustle-and-bustle of downtown Queenstown, New Zealand's over-the-top answer to America's Aspen.
Chances are, however, you won't be drawn away by the allures of city life -- including the vintage steamship ride on Lake Wakatipu, New Zealand's third largest or even the Southern Hemisphere's Steepest Gondola ride to Bob's Peak -- lest you miss the changing colors of the sun on nearby mountains. Morning coffee is enhanced by the tranquil impact of these views; by cocktail hour, a crisp New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc seals the deal that you have found the place you need to be in the world.
Take an afternoon walk down the dusty driveway and you will find the lodge's neighbors -- sheep, horses, even a few llamas. An occasional car would lumber by. There are only five million people in New Zealand, most of them live on the North Island.
The lodge hosts -- Tim and Jan Warwick -- could not have been more accommodating. I arrived minus lost baggage and no means of transportation. A trip to the nearby supermarket and a borrowed overcoat for the frosty mornings remedied the situation.
Like most Kiwis, Tim and Jan are respectful of your privacy, but eager to share their good fortune in living in this wonderful place.
Looking back, deep contentment.

We stayed in the Flat above the garage. Very comfortable and suitable for a longer stay, as it is spacious. Tim, the host is friendly and knowledgable as he has lived there a long time. The flat is above average in terms of cleanliness, and is well appointed with several little extras (toiletries etc). There is a deck area and the name Mountain View is not an exaggeration as there are splendid views to be had from out of the kitchen window as well as outside. The location is ideal as it is very close to Queenstown, Arrowtown, and Frankton. We were able to have our dog with us. There is easy flat car parking.
