Detailed Reviews
Only stayed the one night in an 8 bed dormitory.
The staff are wonderful - they are always super happy to help. There are lots of common spaces, including a patio with swinging chairs, volleyball, trampoline, hot tub(although was broken on our visit), hammocks and a BBQ. They also provide free vegetable soup in the evenings!
The rooms are quite basic, and the bathroom situation needs a bit updating. You can only shower/use the toilet in the inside building which means going outside which I imagine in the winter is a big issue if you are staying in one of the outside buildings. Lack of lockers and suitable locks on the doors - if you're travelling with valuables I would not reccomend.
Overall though, very pleasant stay and would happily stay here again!

Kia Ora Hannah, Thank you for your positive feedback, I'm very glad to hear that we were welcoming to you and I am happy you were comfortable during your stay. With regards to the bathrooms, the older rooms are being re-painted and sorted with the up coming quiet season, we have noticed that it is a focus area here. With regards to the locks, I am looking into secure under bed storage, and to replace some of the bedroom locks as some of them are starting to suffer their age. Again, thank you for your feedback, hope you enjoy the rest of your time in New Zealand Aoife

This hostel is without a doubt the most welcoming hostel I've stayed in whilst travelling around New Zealand. The staff are very friendly and make you feel completely at home; this more than makes up for the fact I had to walk outside to my room :)
Also perfect location as not right in the centre where it's noisy, but not too far away at all!
Thanks guys, Jodi xxx

Hello JodiTimmins. First of all let me apologise for the delay in our response. This was seen a short while ago and I personally wanted to reply. You have said such kind words that I could not overlook it. All of the staff at Bungi, from management to cleaners to our night porters, try very hard to make every single guests experience special. I will make sure that all of the staff here see your message. We really hope that next time you visit Queenstown you will stay with us. Again, thank you very much from all of The Bungi Crew.

Nice hostel, cool vibe. Staff super friendly, short walk to the city. Free soup and towels provided! Bed were really comfy. Big bathroom, however only two showers for the whole hostel. Great wifi in all areas of the hostel.

Kia Ora Lia, Thank you for your lovely review of us here at Bungi, really happy to hear that you were comfortable and enjoyed your stay. We do have a few more showers, they're dotted up and down our main corridor. Glad our WIFI worked well for you too! Thank you Aoife Bungi Manager

This was my worst hostel experience ever. They got me a room right next to kitchen and common area and it was hell noisy 24hrs. The window was facing the kitchen backdoor so airing wasn't possible at all (doing so the kitchen noise&smell even worse). The kitchen serves free soup at 6am, meaning I had to bear all the kitchen noise from 6am.
The first night, people in the common room were yelling and cursing all night but the front desk weren't doing anything about it. The wall was peper thin so I felt like I was sitting together with those crazy people. Even without them, the noise from corridor was unbearable, as I could hear every single word of all the passers-by.
Room was so gloomy and cold with poor painting, low lighting, and crappy linens. And it's not very centrally located. Overall, there was nothing I liked about this lodge.
Compared to other backpackers in NZ I've stayed, everything was far behind the standards. Stay away - you could find tons of other places much nicer & peaceful in Queenstown!

I had a single for the night and I'm glad I only stayed the one night. The girl on reception was nice and helpful. My room was outside away from the main building and can only be described as a garden shed with a bed in it. It was right beside the hostel car park aswell, with cars just four/five feet from my door, which was thunder every time someone started the engine. You have to walk back across the car park to shower or use the the facilities. I was told wifi would be fine in my room, but was patchy. You have to keep the little heater on all night or you'll wake up freezing. Oh, and about 11pm when I was having an early night for an early start, someone decided to empty the glass recycling right next to my room, and scare my stupid whilst I was asleep. And I was charged $75 for the pleasure.

Kia Ora Will, First of all let me apologise that you didn't enjoy your time here at Bungi, but thank you for your compliments to our reception colleagues. The outside dorm is away from the main hostel building but is a mere 10 second walk to get back into the main hostel area. I understand in winter at night it's not the nicest experience to be going across at night or early in the morning, I do apologise for the cars waking you up, but we are a busy hostel, we do tell people to park away from the cabins to avoid this issue, we will put measures in place to avoid this problem in the future. It is winter here in Queenstown at the moment, so most of the town is experiencing that if they don't keep the heating on then they will get cold in their rooms at night. I am sorry you didn't enjoy your time here, your feedback will be taken so to avoid these issues in the future. Thank you Aoife Bungi Manager

Okay is all I can say about this hostel. The good things are: really friendly girl working on reception to check us in, comfy bed, nice outside space, friendly hostel cat.
Bad things: room was tiny and didn't feel properly insulated as I was cold all night. Bathrooms didn't seem clean, shower kept going from hot to cold and one time I was in the shower and the lights turned off! So I had to stumble out freezing cold in the dark to turn the light back on. Lastly long term guests were pretty rude, didn't smile or say hello, it felt a bit like we'd intruded on someone house share or something.

I stayed at Bungi for A week while visiting Queenstown.
The hostel was a decent price, around $25 per night, for a 7-bed.
The room was basic but fine for what I needed it for. The wifi connection was great throughout that hostel.
The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout my staff. All the ones I spoke to were extremely knowledgable about all things Queenstown!

The managment was horrible. When we got their in the evening after a long day in Milford Sound, they had to go looking in the rooms to find some space for us. It ended up with me in one room and my friend in another (4 share/8 share). The next day, after breakfast, I was surprised to see that my bed was made and my backpack gone. Went straight to the reception and asked what was going on, after a while they told me that it had been a misunderstanding and that my bags were in the luggage store. Then I had to wait another hour to get access to the new room (moving to the 8 share my friend was in). I soon realised that my towel was gone, so after another visit in the reception, I noticed that they had moved it to their shelf.
The rooms were messy, typical backpacker dorms. A lot of drunk people loudly entering the dorm in the middle of the night. A true party hostel, like it or not.
Only good things were the free wi-fi and free BBQ once a week. Would not stay at Bungi again, despite of the low price.

A little out of the main hub of town, but not far. The hostel offers a lot! Free soup, free popcorn, tea coffee, towels and wifi. It's really good. It's clean and well looked after. The staff are great, especially Will, who is informative, friendly and helpful.
I couldn't recommend this place more.

Hello Lee H, Firstly, let me and the team thank you for this review. We are glad that you found the location to be close enough to town. We like it up here on the hill as it keeps us far away from the town centre so as not to be disturbed by noise. Also thank you for mentioning the staff. They all work very hard to try and provide the best service possible. I will make sure that they all see this review. Enjoy the rest of your time in New Zealand. Thank you again, The Bungi Crew.

Great service from the tall English guy at reception!!! Wish we only had longer to spend relaxing to enjoy fully all the free comfy inclusions very affordable and wicked views. So pleased to be outside the main buzz of the town to unwind at night after big days exploring the high octane of thrills it has to offer! Only downside toilets and showers below average! Plus tho good artwork in our room very true kiwiana let down only by the fact the room was divided by a thin sheet of plasterboard merely roughly cut out more than a hack job could hear people next door even at a whisper noise. Come on guys everything else is fab and so worth it bring it up to par with the wall bring in a professional to fix it properly. Will stay again for sure when we return. All in all great place if your a backpacker especially on a budget feels like home!!!

Cit2getha, what a lovely review. Firstly, thank you for taking the time to write such a concise review of Bungi Backpackers. Will is the name of the English guy and I will be sure to pass this review onto him. In regards to the toilets and showers, we are in the process of renovating the whole hostel, including the facilities. So I apologise if they weren't quite up to par.I will also look into the issue you mentioned about the thickness of the walls, so thank you for bringing this to our attention. We hope that next time you are in Queenstown you will stay with us and enjoy the changes that we will have put in place. Thank you, The Bungi Crew.

Thank you for taking the time to get this precious piece of equipment to me. I also love the kiwi tea towel you wrapped it in. This brings me happy memories of N.Z. every time I see it.
