First the positives: Price, courteous and accommodating staff, clean pod, comfy sleep, lots of under bed locked storage, good wifi, very central location. Now the negatives: if you're over a certain age (I am) or under a certain height (like 5'2" or 155cm, which I am) an upper bunk is a challenge. The ladder rungs are far apart for the short legged and there's a lip at the top of the ladder that gets in the way of climbing in and out and serves what purpose? Thankfully, a very kind young woman offered to switch her lower bed for my upper bunk. Next: size of common areas like kitchen, bathrooms and 8-pod room floor space. More bathroom sinks! More counter space in the kitchenI Or have a room for people to eat so they don't take up the kitchen counter space (ie get rid of the stools). More storage space in the fridge! With even 5 people sorting their luggage on the floor of a pod room, you basically have to come back another time when you have room to walk. Also, the women's loos need to be monitored more regularly for paper and towels strewn on the floor. I was just too old for this place. It's a younger person's game.

It was a pretty cramped bedroom - in fact you could only access the bed on one side - and a very basic bathroom, wardrobe etc. Very functional though - everything worked fine and we had a nice little terrace. We didn't take advantage but they had a kitchen and laundry room, though we did utilise the luggage storage while we went on the Routeburn Trek.

It's cheap and cheerful (not actually that cheap, though Queenstown is generally pricey), with a cool little rooftop pizerria/bar and a great central location.

I booked a queen room with a balcony for one night which cost $131.09nzd.
For the price I paid for I was not satisfied.
The room was very cold as the temperature outside, despite using the small oil heater provided in the room. The hallway lead to the bedroom seemed warmer. The receptionist kindly gave me an extra blanket, but this blanket was completely stained in yellow and black stains, and felt soiled by oil and residue.
I was hoping to raise my body temperature by taking a hot shower, but the shower could not get any warmer, instead, stayed a Luke warm temperature. I was left to using the hair dryer as my second heat source, and left that going all night to keep the room warm. I am currently staying in another accomodation which is much cosier and warm, only $10 more than the price I paid for at Juicy. I have stayed at Juicy snooze in Christchurch before and never had this kind of problem.

One good thing I can comment on is how tidy the kitchen facility is. I love how they have a camera in the kitchen to monitor who is not cleaning up after themselves. There is a $20 fee for those that are caught leaving a mess behind. This ensures everyone can enjoy using the facility. From my memory I believe the Christchurch Juicy snooze have a cleaner there who usually keeps the space tidy.

I will definitely stay in Christchurch juicy snooze again but I will not come back to this accomodation in Queenstown.

First night here was awful, people kept coming in and out of the room until 2am, someone had their phone on loud and answered the call at 10pm inside their pod. I think people mistake these as sound proof, they are not. Also it was boiling hot in the room and the pod, due to the plastic curtain was too hot and the fan inside did absolutely nothing at all. So yeah first night terrible, second night because I was exhasted from the night before and it was colder thank god, I managed to sleep. The lockers in the rooms aren't designed well, i was in pod 1 and my locker is behind the door and I was expected to put my bag inside this so everytime I wanted to get something from my bag I blocked the door because you can't not do so. It also stopped locking after the first use and I gave up trying to shove the batteries back in.
The bathrooms are rediculous and I don't even know how this building got planning permission for so many women on one floor, 1 bathroom with 1 single sink and 2 toilets. Literally in the morning you que to wash your hands and I couldnt even get to use the toilet, I had to use the public ones in Queenstown because it took so long i would of missed my bus. The kitchen was also insanely small for the amount of people again, no where to eat comfortably whilst others are right next to you cooking. This place is fine if you want to just sleep and leave but for any extended stay over 1 night I would avoid or definitely not stay in an 8 bed pod room.

Hi Carol, Thank you for the review! We’re sorry to hear about the noise and your experience in one of our pod rooms. Our JUCY pods are a modern twist on the traditional dorm room and as such, other guests do come and go during the night depending on their arrival and departure times. We really appreciate your constructive feedback about our shared bathrooms and kitchenette. For under $50 a night, I didn’t have my expectations set high but I really liked the privacy the pod provided, I liked the set up in there with a fan and a light, along with USB and power sockets. That was all great. However, all the issues I have are beyond the pod. I didn’t explore the place fully but the bathrooms, the bins and sanitary bins were overflowing with rubbish, as were the bins in the rooms. Yes, the rooms are cramped, I don’t believe that all eight of us in the room could have stood on the floor at the same time. WiFi was reliable, there’s a sign apologising for noise and fumes - saw that was a complaint in the other reviews - as the place is under going a revamp (I think that’s what it said anyway…) it’s in a great location, walking distances to the town, waterfront, parking across the road for $1 an hour and free overnight… if it wasn’t for the overflowing bins being a health hazard I would have scored it higher. In saying that though, I would stay again.

Choose this place over Ramada Suites because I thought location was slightly better and both their rooms were advertised to be 22m2.

Upon arrival I found out that this place doesn't might breaching consumer guarantees act - the rooms are about half that size.
When I told the lady downstairs about this I was laughed at. I offered to put my $2000 up against her $200 that the room was not the advertised size but she didn't accept the bet for obvious reasons.

I will be following up on this further.

I had a fantastic stay here. My friend and I were able to get a last-minute room which was quiet, clean and great for the price.

The 24 hour reception and baggage storage are great for trekkers needing early departures. The onsite bar and restaurant have good food and amazing views.

The best thing about this place, though, is the staff. All three that we met were super- friendly and went out of their way to be helpful and accommodating of our schedules and requests.

Highly recommend for trekkers or travellers looking for a great place to stay.

The location was the best part for us. It was very central in Queenstown and surrounded with many good restaurants, bars and shops. If you are planning on skiing or doing an excursion there are many pick up spots and tour operators near the hostel as well.

The room was a good spot to sleep. The bed was comfy, the bathroom was clean and they provided a nice small space heater to keep the room warm if needed. We didn't have any body wash on our first night in the shower, we reported to the front desk and they gave us a couple of bars and we were told that they would replace in the morning but when we came back it was unfortunately not replaced but we did get another small bar of soap. The remote in the room was disgusting and covered in what I imagine was at one point part of some good fried chicken or possibly pizza but everything else seemed to be fine.

Check in was a little tricky because there is self check in/check out tablets at the entrance. We couldn't figure out the right combination of booking reference number and name because we had received Jucy's confirmation code in a separate email. The attendant did offer to help us out but we got the right combo at that very moment. You can pick your cards to activate them and we had no issues with this part but later that evening my card deactivated and I went to the front desk a second time to get it working on our first night. The hotel has some very good signage and arrows to tell you where your rooms are and the amenities (rooftop bar/restaurant, laundry room and kitchen area).

The hotel seems to be more of a party hotel and when we arrived there was lots of drinking and people having a good time. This went well into the night and the noise seemed to travel well down the hallway from the rooms that were hosting. We could also hear our neighbour coming and going throughout the first night but it was relatively quiet between 12-6.

We picked this hostel for the location and to save a little bit of money for excursions. It did get very busy in our area the first night we were there but after that we had no issues with the traffic. It was a 15 minute ride to the airport in the Uber and the bus stops at the nearby Stanley St bus hub and only takes about 25 minutes to go to/from the airport with limited traffic.

Hey there! Thanks a bunch for taking the time to share your detailed experience with us. We're thrilled to hear that you loved our central location – being surrounded by all those awesome restaurants, bars, and shops is definitely a major plus! 😊 It's great to know that you found the room comfy and clean, and that the small space heater came in handy. Sorry about the hiccup with the body wash and the remote – cleanliness is super important to us, and we'll definitely look into making sure everything's top-notch for our guests. We hear you about the self-check-in tablets – we'll see if there's a way to make that process smoother for everyone. And sorry about the noise from the partying – we understand how that could be disruptive, especially when you're trying to get some shut-eye. It's awesome to hear that overall you had a good stay and found our location convenient for your excursions. If there's anything else we can do to make your next visit even better, just let us know. Safe travels, and we hope to see you again soon! 🌟

This hotel only for location is good , we stayed here for four days and the first night was very noisy and the second day was no power for whole buildings( the day is March 4 2020) . I never had this bad experience when I travel other countries, also the room will clean every four days unless u ask the receiver, even I put the mark require for cleaning. We had private two beds room but very small. The price not cheap for young people stay private room. Also u need to learn to take a shower in dark night and ur cell phone no flash because can’t charge, I will not recommend to stay. 不建議入住 因為停電 及十分吵鬧,工作人員十分和善,地點十分方便是他門的優點,房間清潔要每四天才一次,你要直接要求清潔,就算你把門口標示牌拿出來掛也沒有用!

Hi there, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we really appreciate the feedback. We're sorry to hear about your experience at JUCY Snooze Queenstown. This is not at all the kind of experience we would have hoped you would have. Unfortunately during your stay the power to the whole block was taken down for 2 hours, this was out of our control and affected a number of business in the area. This was between 10pm and 12am. I have noted your concerns regarding room amenities and cleaning and will address this with my team. We constantly look for ways we can improve the guest experience, we have taken your feedback on board.. Thanks again, JUCY Snooze Queenstown crew

I thought I would give a hostel another chance, as Jucy with their pods seemed to offer more privacy compared to a traditional backpacking hostel. However, I don’t think I would ever try again. The 8 pod room is very narrow and makes it difficult to access your luggage, although on the plus side they do offer a passcode locker for your belongings under your pod. The pods themselves allow you to have some privacy through the use of roll down curtain. The issue is is that they get extremely warm and sweaty, even though there is a “fan” included in the pod, but it is pretty dismal at cooling. The ladder to the pod above also creaks excessively if someone is going up/down, as well as the door which was very noisy and creaked whenever someone came or went late at night.
There is one bathroom for males which only has one sink and PowerPoint access which makes it difficult and awkward to use.
Also, the smoking area for people staying at the hostel is right outside the entrance which is unavoidable if you have to enter, making for an unpleasant, cigarette/vape smoke entrance into Jucy Snooze.
The two stars I’ve given are for the staff who were friendly and also the location is good for access to town centre and departure point for many tours.
