Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Located about a 40 minute walk or 10 minute ride from the centre of town. Great outlook over the lake, with access to lakeside path which takes you into town and the park a really nice walk. The hotel offers an hourly return shuttle bus service into town until 22.15. Would recommend a high level lake view room. Our room was spacious and well equipped, Good size bathroom with nice shower, comfortable bed and L shaped sofa . Large balcony. There is a complimentary self service guest laundry. The hotel is spotlessly clean and staff are extremely friendly and very helpful. The buffet breakfast is very good, all day dining and dinner menu is good although rather limited. A recommended stay, thank you to the Rees team!

Staff was great. Jimmy was exceptional. Rooms overlooking the lake were nice. Very happy that we stayed here. They offer shuttle to downtown and sites, so you park and let them drive. Great water pressure. Restaurant on site. Unusual Bathroom layout (towel warmer on opposite side from shower). You will not be disappointed that you stayed here.

Such a perfect stay! We had a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment with a Mountain View. The apartment was spacious with a full kitchen, large living room with fireplace and huge patio. All of the details were just perfect. The staff was so friendly including the front desk, concierge and dining. We showed up right before closing and the staff did everything to make sure we had a great dining experience. Any request we had was accommodated. We did not want to leave, thank you for a wonderful stay.

Loved everything here. The view, room and service was simply impeccable. What you see online is what you get. Due to the weather, we were unable to head to milford sound and extended our stay at Rees for another 2 days. And because of Rees, the change of plans did not dampen our spirits and provided a good home ground for us to explore the surrounding areas.

Pros - 1) impeccable impeccable impeccable view, beautiful facility, well cleaned and well maintained, nothing was out of place, not easy to do as we were just in another city in NZ and we noticed how difficult it was to keep workers and standards high 2) the shuttle to downtown was convenient, didn't have any problems reserving it 3) we had asked for restaurant recommendations prior to arriving and they were all answered quickly and thoroughly Cons - 1) some of the staff seemed not as well trained ( interns or on summer jobs?), when we asked for ideas of things to do when it was raining, the response was "well you can still do the usual activities you would do" and when we asked for quality supermarkets where we can buy fruit and local produce to cook, we were told "pak n' save was the cheapest option". 2) didn't find the quality of food at the restaurant high given it is NZ afterall we're in, would recommend eating out or ordering uber eats in, given all the great restaurants in the area. 3) breakfast so really subpar, we saw this mentioned in some tripadvisor comments but thought perhaps it was just undeserved but truly breakfast was very lacking, and for a 5 star hotel that commanded the prices we paid much can be improved on, would recommend not paying extra for that as part of your hotel rate despite the areas for improvement, we would definitely stay here again!

I stayed here for three nights with my family (wife and two boys, ages 9 and 12) as part of our South Island road trip. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at this hotel! From the moment you step into the reception area, it is clear that you are in a 5-star property. The hotel is located in front of the lake, with wonderful views. Yet, it is close enough to the centre that you can get there in a very short car ride. Our particular room was a 2-bedroom executive room. The unit was spacious and well furnished. It came with a fully functioning kitchen (which we really did not use) and a large living area. There was a large balcony as well with views of the lake and mountains. Overall, the unit was chic and comfortable! My only issue (and the reason why I had to knock down a star in the review) was the fact that the ramp leading to the garage for parking was directly in front of my balcony. This not only partially obstructed the views of the lake but the balcony and living room were clearly visible to every car passing through the ramp. This really soured my experience. I paid extra for a ‘view’ and an ‘executive’ unit. I was expecting more. I was in room 402 by the way. Perhaps other rooms do not have this problem. Overall, I guess I would still recommend this property.

My wife and I had a great 4 night stay Oct 16 - Oct 20. The view across the lake from our room was magnificent! The room itself was very comfortable and clean with a nice balcony where we enjoyed wine and the view everyday! The on site restaurant was very good, we had dinner there the first night and breakfast each morning. The staff were excellent and very attentive to anything we needed or any questions we had. We had a wheelchair with us and they went out of the way to drop us off from the courtesy van near our destination vs the normal pick up spot. (The courtesy van was a nice touch that we used each day we were there. Parking a car near the main part of town can be difficult so this was an easy way to get around from the hotel.) We also enjoyed meeting Mark, the manager of the Hotel. We gave us great dinner recommendations, ideas for additional things to see and do above what we had planned, and was a pleasure to talk with! This was a favorite place we stayed while vacationing in New Zealand!

Everything about the Rees was 5-star. Staff were truly helpful, the shuttle bus was always available, facilities in the apartment, especially the beds and pillows were perfect, and of course the location is hard to beat. Never tired of watching the mood changes on the lake. Can't wait to return.
