Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wow, that hill for starters! Definitely consider your personal fitness if walking from the bottom of Hamilton Street, anyone with mobility issues will need to be driven to the top. Check in was easy although not super secure, I collected an envelope that was sitting in reception because my flight arrived late. I had a solo room which was very clean and well kept, my tip for reception would be to add an internal safety chain lock (not just relying on a press button door lock) as I didn’t feel overly secure in there as a solo traveller without one. Being on the bottom floor, the noise from the upper rooms walking around was very noisy, however guests did seem to respect the noise curfew at 10pm. Breakfast was fine although I could only have it once during my week long stay as I was out for walks and tours before it opened at 7am, coffee machine was exceedingly slow! Overall it was fine for the price but I’m not sure that I’d rush back at this stage.

We very much enjoyed our 2 night stay at Reavers. We had a loft room - all I suggest is watch your head on the ceiling. The room was quite quirky with a ladder type staircase up to the double bed. We loved it but might be hard if you are drunk or aged or have mobility issues. Small kitchenette including cutlery, mugs, bowls, plates, small fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster pots and hot plates (1 side was working) was everything we needed to cook for ourselves and not pay big dollars to eat out. Reasonable walk into town to local 4Square to buy groceries. No way to get luggage to room except to drag it up staircases but worth it for the view on the second floor. Complimentary breakfast was cereal and toast and coffee - just perfect for Aussie travellers.

Reavers Lodge would provide the cheapest private rooms in Queenstown! As they provide a budget rate, don't go there expecting 5 star facilities. We found the rooms very clean and the staff were absolutely amazing!!! I would recommend them to anyone with a budget in mind who wants a brilliant view from their room & a 10 minute walking distance to everything that Queenstown has to offer!

This venue is also used by backpackers. But we managed to get a double room with an ensuite bathroom. The only negative I can mention is the small size of the communal kitchen and the small parking area. The room was comfortable, the staff efficient and the breakfast good.

We stayed at Reavers Lodge from 19/11/2023 to 22/11/2023 as part of our month travelling round New Zealand. We had a twin en-suite room , which was comfortable and spacious. We also had access to a kitchen and a nice lounge. There was a pleasant bar up stairs with a fantastic view over all of Queenstown. The price was very reasonable and a good continental breakfast was included in the cost. ( served in the bar). The staff were , in particular, very friendly and helpful. We very much enjoyed our stay , many thanks Reavers Lodge. Roger and Viv

Very very small room. There were 4 of us with luggage and ski gear and no where to put anything. Two people needed to sit on a bed while 2 people moved around the room, as there was not enough room to move especially with our luggage. The noise from the rooms above was terrible, there is no insulation so you hear everything. The positives are the room is clean, shower is hot, breakfast is good, Hugo bar is good and staff were great. Our trip organised by oz snow was great and we had a really good time.

The rooms are nowhere near as nice in the promotional pictures as they are in reality….there are no views from the majority of the rooms….the image of the room we stayed in and booked, with views, are false. There are some that would on one end but most don’t as they are behind the main building. The worst thing though is the noise. This is an old timber building and you can hear everything from the surrounding rooms. We knew about every creaking step (and this was really really bad), shower and toilet flush from the room upstairs. It was horrible and really very loud and intrusive. If they woke up to get ready for the day at 5am, or can home at 11pm after being out, so did you. The rooms are very small with very little room for bags and in the ensuite you’ll need to dry and dress in the shower stall so you don’t bruise yourself or crack your head on the basin as you bend down to put pants on. The good things…plenty of hot water most of the time but not always, good heating, and clean linen…although I did get look at the doona between the sheets one day and it was not pretty. Overall, I hated it, would not recommend it and won’t stay again. If you decide that you would still stay there I highly recommend requesting a top floor room because they’ll never fix the noisy floorboards.

We were unable to make it the hotel on the correct day because our flights were canceled. We called to ask if there was something we could do to change the reservation. The clueless but kind staff at the hotel transferred me to the management office where the lady working was super rude and did not help at all. I understand strict policies and restricted changes, but she was incredibly rude when handling the situation. I then created a second booking and payed for nights I wasn't at the hotel. When we got there they informed us that we wouldn't even be able to stay in the same room and had to change rooms meaning that we wasted a day to wait till the next room was ready and move our stuff before the next people arrived. We could hear steps in the room above us and this is obviously more of a party hostel than a hotel. I am not against this, but we had some early mornings and did not appreciate the people above us stomping around the entire night (10pm-4am). There was also yelling and partiers combing back to the hotel all night long. We kindly made a noise complaint after the 3rd night and were told that nothing could be done. The wifi did not work at all and we had to use service for our whole stay. One of the worst showers too! The water pressure was terrible when turned to how water. They did not provide shampoo, conditioner, or body wash. Instead when we asked, they said there is a 3-in-1 in the room. The sheets were dirty and our comforter was basically brown with no duvet or anything covering it. The heater was hard to use and broken so we woke up sweating every night. If you stay here, request a room on the top floor because the floor boards creak and will keep you up all night. I am incredibly disappointed with the stay and would absolutely NOT recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Do not book here! If you do, ask for a room on the top floor. You probably won't get it though.

This is the worst experience I had in my life. First of all I’ll start by telling that I had way better conditions in my military service. We are back packers in a 2 month trip in NZ. We took a room with private bathroom for 3 nights, and I have to say that I rather sleep in my car. 1. The room: The walls, ceiling and door are thin like paper, you literally can hear someone breathing at the next room. We couldn’t sleep because the noise of people talk, walk, pee, sneeze and snore. That was absolutely terrible. 2. The bathroom: is a a shame. The shower is leaking (all night too), it’s too small and uncomfortable. 3. Devices: The electric kettle was dirty and filled with mold . The refrigerator was very old, noisy and look bad. 4. Bed: The bed and the pillows were really uncomfortable. 5. Kitchen: The common kitchen was a shame too, it was so small , dirty and messy. Two people were too much in there. I don’t know how they thought it will work when 5 people try to cook together (happened and it was bad). 6. Breakfast: The room includes breakfast of course. we got bread and spreads, coffee and tea, hot water, cereal and milk, and tiny, messy and dirty dining room- We had to eat standing. 7. Parking/ get in: the parking is really small and it’s impossible to drive in and out. The walk to the room is long and really hard because of the almost 90 degrees incline. The staircase to the room smell really bad (like a dead animal). 8. Wi Fi: Last but not least- the WI FI is the worst. We had to use our internet connection all the time. To sum up I really don’t know why we pay. At the first night we looked for another place but decided to stay because we already pay. Make yourself a big favor and don’t come to this place!

The worst accommodation in 2 weeks in NZ. Mould in fridge door, power cord hangs on pillow from tv., no table or chairs to sit on , we prepaid $145 ! The day manager could not/ would not refund payment. Walls not insulated so had next door tenants arguing for an hour before i knocked on wall for 2 minutes.
