Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had an amazing stay. This is fantastic ecotourism. The rooms were well-appointed, spacious and in the heart of the valley with seriously high mountains either side, and a fast flowing river alongside. We had our best meal at our South Island holiday here. The restaurants closed for re-furbishment, but the room service was excellent and seriously delicious. The included breakfast was a real treat. I had the cured salmon and cream cheese croissant and I honestly can't stop thinking about it. It's worth going back for the croissant alone! We stayed for one night outside of the peak summer holiday period and did an afternoon cruise on Milford Sound on the day of arrival. If you are into walking etc the it's worth staying more nights. There is a known issue with Sandflies at Milford Sound but we had no issues at all at the lodge. I would suggest bringing your own insect repellant just in case.

After the long picturesque drive from Queenstown, this campsite is just what is needed. Deep in the rainforest it is so peaceful. It is a powered site with a water tap next to each pitch. It is a small site so make sure you book in advance. There is a restaurant here too but it was being refurbished so sadly we couldn’t experience it. You are then ready for the 9:30am cruise on the Sound in the morning. Just a 5 minute drive. .

If you are visiting Milford Sound and wanting accommodation, then Milford Sound Lodge would be the only choice in my opinion. Views are breathtaking, meals are world class and such a quiet place to relax. I do recommend bringing additional food if you wanted snacks etc as there is nothing in town.

There are a few iconic places that live up to expectations no matter what. The Taj Mahal is one and Milford Sound another! The lodge is gorgeous. We stayed in a Riverside Chalet. The view from these rooms is breathtaking. Can’t fault the place. Staff were wonderful.

This is a delightful lodge right in the heart of Milford Sound, only about 20 minutes walk to the terminal where the cruises depart. We were here for two nights which is the right length of stay. We were lucky to encounter great weather. It rained on the day of arrival, but this meant that we could see numerous waterfalls from our room! The next day was bright and sunny, so we walked to the terminal and had a great cruise on Milford Sound. We then sat in front of our room in privacy and enjoyed drinks listening to water flow down the adjacent river. Food at this place is also quite good. In my opinion, pricing was also reasonable for the quality on offer (in terms of accommodation, food and staff) and stunning views, all in a remote location. I highly recommend that you stretch your budget (if necessary) and do stay at Milford Sound Lodge. You will not regret it!

Beautiful cabins in a spectacular setting. We had a dinner worthy of a 5 star restaurant ( I would have the duck confit appetizer and the venison with a bottle of Local Pinot Noir) Every aspect of the lodge carefully made and well maintained. Immaculately clean. We took a boat tour of the sound, bresthtakingly beautiful. And the kids were treated like royalty by Meg,and she showed them where a dolphin mom and her baby would follow in the wake of the ship. A wonderful experience

We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the lodge and the room. We had a riverside room with a beautiful view. They also have coin operated laundry which was nice. Breakfast delivered was very good. The restaurant served a nice dinner as well. We were so glad that we had the opportunity to stay in Milford.

Beautiful location. Easy check in. Nice room and shower. My only gripe was the mini bar. For the price of the room, snacks should be complimentary. Additionally, I don't think they should leave things out where kids can grab and eat them before the parents realize they have to pay for them. There is no sign out saying that the snacks have to be paid for. It is up to the guest to read it in their guest book.
