My lovely wife and I spent two nights in a one bedroom apartment just after Christmas. The room was very clean and the 4 metre high ceilings made the apartment feel very spacious. The Quest is close to the centre of town and parking was conveniently located next to the hotel. The person checking us in was polite and friendly but advised us we should not use a website to book the room as booking directly with Quest would be cheaper. This advice was not necessary, and while I understand Quest may want to cut out the middle man, the middle man gave us advice on the room which we utilised to decide to stay in Quest.

Thank you for your much appreciated feedback James. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. We do apologise for the eagerness of our front desk staff member to try and save you money by booking direct with hotels. We do a lot of business with online travel agents and have excellent relationships with them.

We booked a studio for one night as we were attending the Civic Theatre for a performance - just 5 mins walk away. This hotel has a carpark (outdoor) right next door which is free so this was ideal. We were warmly greeted at the Reception and told we had been upgraded to a 1 bedroom suite - what a nice surprise!

We went to our room on the 1st level (only 3 levels in total) and found a lovely room just as the photos on Trip Advisor show. It's an older building that has been renovated but it's been a very good renovation and everything was great with lovely decor. Shortly after arriving, a small milk was delivered for teas/coffees.

It was a Saturday night, so the only downside is that being on a main road, we did hear some 'boy racers' up and down the road into the night. I still managed to sleep but was aware of the noises. Not sure if this is just a Saturday night thing in Invercargill!

Quest is a serviced apartment so has a small kitchenette and washer and dryer as well and well equipped. The wifi was easy and fast and it had a good range of TV channels on the 2 TVs - one in the bedroom and one in the loungeroom. We booked direct with the hotel and it was NZ$129. Fantastic value. We will definitely stay here again if visiting Invercargill.

I like the clean modern renovation that this old building has had. The rooms were large, clean and had everything I needed for a weeks stay. A little loud, but it is in town and the hotel kindly provided earplugs that I used at night because I'm used to the countryside! Internet was fast.

I would definitely stay here again.

My only suggestions would be to look at eliminating the small plastic soaps and shampoo items. Also separate bins to facilitate recycing and composting would be a great addition.

The Quest has a good location just at the end of one of Invercargill's main streets making all the CBD within easy walking distance and also nearby is a large Pak n Save for groceries.
The apartments are nicely furnished with all the usual amenities and have good comfy beds.
Free parking is offered in an adjacent lot next to the hotel with overflow out on the street surrounding the property.
Staff were very helpful and overall I would definitely stay here again if back in Invercargill.

Overall our stay here was very good and the room was good value for money. It was full of light from huge windows in an over height ceilinged room. Everything was very good with some exceptions. I wish they had put in more sound insulation when they converted this building to a hotel. You will hear flushing toilets, heat pumps and other noises. Also, when will hotels learn that if you put a fridge in a room, a very important factor is it needs to be quiet!! We also struggled with check-in as it closes at 4pm (which I would have though was the hotel's busiest time) and no-one answered the intercom.

But the room was a good size and very comfortable. I would definitely stay here again but maybe bring my earplugs.

Thank you for your feedback Superpear. Yours is one of the first reviews we have had where there was an issue with internal noise. You must be used to a very quiet environment at home. Reception only closes at 4pm in the weekends as most leisure guests check in before this. Weekdays we are open 7am to 7pm. The after hours arrival service us normally seamless with simple instructions on the door next to our intercom. We do apologize that their was an issue with the call center picking up your call. Apart from these issues I hope you enjoyed your stay with us. (there may have been earplugs in your bedside cabinets)

Our first visit to Invercargill didn't look good with scaffolding around the buildings and graffiti on the walls as well as wet and cold. The Quest hotel was an old post office I believe so not purpose built. Only one rikkety lift but they worked as not many using it. The room was not huge but adequate and had all the basics. Kitchenette, bedroom, bathroom also has w/m and dryer. The shower was in the bath and a big step to get in. A hand rail would have helped. staff very friendly and helpful.

Thank you for your much appreciated feedback. The hotel was indeed the original Chief Post Office built in 1940. Most people appreciate the re-purposing of historic buildings and enjoy the features that come with them such as high ceilings, large windows, solid brass window frames etc . All rooms have undergone refurbishing in the past 12 months. The lift is old, but fully certified and serviced monthly, and functions fine regardless of how busy we are. At the moment the old CBD block in Invercargill is being demolished to make way for a bran new complex.

On the outside this place looks a disaster - an old building next to a rough open parking lot, and the entrance isn't much better.
But the rooms are fine - they are big, clean, and quiet, with everything you need to self-cater, or catch up on your washing and we had a great sleep.
quest inverIt's not far from here to most of the shops and cafes, and Queens Park is also within walking distance.
As we checked in late on NYE there was no reception, just a buzzer that connected us with someone offsite, but it worked fine. We were buzzed straight in, the key was on the front desk, and we received a follow up call shortly afterwards to make sure everything worked fine.
There is free parking right next door, but after hours parking on the street right at the front is also free.

Thank you for your feedback StephenSue. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. You can't judge a book by its cover eh. The cover is the old Chief Post Office built in 1940. Solid brass windows, 100% earthquake rated, 1 meter thick concrete floors. Built to last - so really nice to see an old building being re-used. A lot of refurbishing has gone into the apartments in the past 12 months

Modern, spacious and high quality rooms. Like other reviews the boy racer noise was definitely a downer. It was appreciated that earplugs were supplied in the room so obviously previous feedback has been taken on board. Staff were friendly and helpful and I’d happily stay here again especially considering how tired and dated most other accommodation in the city is for the same price.

We stayed here for two nights recently and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Check in was friendly and fast. The staff kindly acknowledged our prior request for a room on the second floor. Our room 209 was clean, comfortable and quiet. Situated at the rear of the building on a corner meant we heard very little street noise and had plenty of natural light. The location of the Quest is great, right in the centre of town with numerous eating options within easy walking distance. Parking is free and about a 30 second walk from the main door. We couldn’t have asked for better and would definitely stay again.

We rented a one bedroom apartment at this hotel. The room had most facilities including washer and dryer and was very clean. However, it advertises a 'comfortable King Bed'. This is not the case, it is a queen bed and made sleeping difficult. The room has no air-conditioning and a view of 'industrial' roof tops. NZ was having 'unprecedented' hot weather and although Quest had provided a fan, the room was still quite warm. In colder weather this may not be a problem.
Furthermore, it advertises free parking. However, there is a limited supply and we were forced to leave our car once we had parked for fear of nothing to return to.
Unfortunately, Invercargill is a demolition zone at the moment and there are few places to eat or other shops nearby. While this is not Quest's fault, it may be worth checking before you book.

Thank you for your feedback. We do apologise that you only had a queen bed. We only have 2 rooms with queen beds - all of the rest a King. Your room was an internal one bedroom apartment - no view, but much quieter. Parking is free, and if our park is full we do have an overflow area in the car-park next to ours - as highlighted on your parking voucher. Or you can park right outside the hotel overnight for free until 9am. The block directly opposite the hotel is currently being demolished to make way for a brand new CBD which will be fantastic once completed. There are plenty of very good restaurants within walking distance of our hotel - our staff will happily give you a number of options.
