Monarch Motel is well situated in Invercargill, access is from the SH and also a side street. I had an urgent unexpected trip to the city because a family member was hospitalised and Monarch stood out as being convenient and a very fair cost. On arrival, I was immediately told an upgrade would be granted at no additional cost, and my explanation that I really had no idea of a definite departure date was accepted very readily, with payment on the spot not required.
Motel itself was spotless, rooms are serviced daily. These are extremely well appointed with full kitchen and all appliances/dining items anyone could ever need.
Eventually my stay was fifteen days due to complications medically, but this stay proved 'easy' for me, quiet, a most friendly and understanding manager and I would not hesitate to stay there again, plus recommend the complex to prospective travellers.

Booked in for just the 1 night. Easy to find.
Room was perfect for family of 4. We had a Queen in the living area and 2 singles in a separate room. Rooms were big and I liked that the additional bench space had stools to use as dining table.
Bathroom was a good size.
We were on the ground floor near a stair case so was worried about noise, but didn’t hear anything.
Very clean and well maintained!

Top cleanliness and hygiene, spacious room, possibility of having breakfast, presence of kettle, microwave oven. Fair price. The location is strategic for those coming from Millford Sound and heading to the southernmost points of the island and consequently the whole of New Zealand. In the area there is the Royal Albatross Centre. Advised.

Booked for 3 nights with a group of 28 friends, took the money then double booked room every night. Got offered fold out bed, & a bed in spa suite with terrible springs. Check your bookings- he refused any responsibility for double dipping. Lucky we had good mates who helped us out

Response from Clark Whelan, General Manager at Monarch Motel
Responded 28 Feb 2021
Hi Kerry O We are sorry that you did not have a good experience. We also had a very hard time when your group was with us. Your tour group booked 11 rooms for 28 guests with the intention that guests would be sharing. We provided what was requested and paid for. We actually supplied an extra two rooms that were not paid for. I would suggest your displeasure is more fairly shared with the managers of your tour. Not us who were provided what was requested and more

What a great place! Clark was super helpful with our booking changes and our bags and that made a huge difference to our stay in the south. Everything was in the perfect place in each room and so clean and pleasant. It would be the best motel I’ve ever stayed in - across several countries! Can’t recommend Monarch Motel enough. Fabulous!!!

To be fair, we were not here long as we were up early after one night to catch low tide at Cathedral Cave. That said, the room was clean, kitchenette reasonably well equipped and bed comfortable. Ample parking. If you're touring NZ and happy with motels then the Monach is worth a try.

The Management were fantastic, extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was cozy with a wide screen TV with a good selection of channels. Our meals were delivered punctually each morning as was our newspaper. The laundry facilities were great and there is also a sauna and spa.
The Management went out of their way to offer us transport to and from the airport and also into the city as we did not have a vehicle. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
