After a day of riding in the pouring rain, what better way to be greeted as we rode into the motel car park than with a lady carrying an empty laundry basket and gesturing to where we should park? "Take off all of your wet motorbike gear and we will do our best to dry it all overnight" was her comment. Well, that was an amazing start.
The room was large with a comfy double bed and a single bed with plenty of space to spread out. The bathroom had a very effective heater, perfect when you turn up cold and wet. The shower cubicle was large and the toiletries were very good too. The kitchen area had the usual kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge etc The staff was also helpful with recommendations for places to eat and there were large umbrellas on loan to keep us dry when we went out in the evening.
The following morning reception had a basket full of dry clothing for us, brilliant. We would definitely recommend this motel, especially to fellow bikers.

We dropped in on the off chance of staying overnight while passing through Invercargill in our camper van. What a great welcome! The lady on reception was so friendly and helpful. There was space in the car park for our van and offered us a comfortable ground floor room with a small kitchenette and a large bathroom. There’s a guest laundry room too, which is always a help when you’ve been camping! Although close to the main road, we found the room quiet and had a good night’s sleep ready for the next day’s drive through the Catlins.

Great stay. The room was nice and clean, very tidy and well maintained. The bathroom was a good size and the shower had a shower dome which is quite uncommon. The room was quite small, didnt really have space for our 2 full size luggage bags. Not a big fan of the wall heater, it took a long time to heat the room. On the plus side they had cookie time cookies, supplied little shower gels, shampoo, conditioner and lotion and the bed was super warm and comfy

My stay in Southland started with an overnight stay at Bella Vista. What a lovely welcome to the deep south. Management (Scott) was amazingly helpful and supportive in arranging my trip from Invercargill to Bluff to catch the ferry to Stewart Island. He could not have been more helpful and what could have been a very stressful start turned into a really good one.
The room was compact (as per the agent had booked on my behalf) and very, very clean and the bed extremely comfortable and for a single person more than adequate. A nice touch was the real coffee sachet/plunger; which I appreciated in the morning before the start of my trip over to the island. Shower and toilet was also spotless; which is often not the case in large and small motels/hotels alike. What I also enjoyed was the lovely little garden space behind the rooms which really is like a little oasis of green; with chairs available, this is a lovely place to sit with your morning coffee and relax.
Upon my return from the island I treated myself to a restaurant of Scott's suggestion (Koji/Japanese restaurant); this proved to be one of the best meals of my trip down south.
All in all this was a positive experience and thank you to Scott for your help and support. A wee note to the couple (Dennis(?) and Chen from Hamilton) who Scott had asked and who were travelling to Steward Island at the same time and who were happy to agree and were so kind as to give me a lift to Bluff as well; many, many
thanks.

We have stayed at this Bella Vista hotel a number of times and would stay there again. The front desk person is very friendly and helpful and the staff taking care of our room was also very helpful. The layout of the rooms is convenient and comfortable. The location of the Motel is easy to find when you arrive in Invercargill, and it is easy to walk to grocery stores, cafes, the local gardens, and places of interest. I appreciate that there are laundry facilities available which are really helpful when you are on a road trip. Definitely a good place to stay with reasonable rates too. There are a lot of wonderful places to walk and experience nature that are not too far driving distance away.

Our car broke down on the way to Invercargill and we were towed in style by tow truck to the Motel forecourt. This was a Saturday and no chance of car being repaired till Monday .
On the Sunday the lovely lady who runs the hotel offered us her car to drive over to Bluff and see the sights . It was a very cold windy day and very limited public transport so the car was so appreciated. Thankyou Tracey you are a gem
Immaculate comfortable and warm room and on normal days an easy walk into Invercargill city centre

Despite the convenient location, the noise level greatly impacted my overall stay. I had hoped for a restful and relaxing experience but instead found myself feeling frustrated and sleep-deprived.

If you're considering staying here I would advise bringing earplugs or exploring other accommodation options if noise is a concern for you.

Excellent and very accommodating. The room was well presented and very clean. I loved the cookie time biscuits they provided. Due to my mobility issues the lovely owner managed to shuffle the bookings to put us in a room on the ground floor.

Southern hospitality is a feature at Bella Vista. Although the room was smaller than elsewhere the motels are conveniently situated on SH1 and easy to find [opposite Mitre 10, which includes a Columbus Coffee]. There is a large carpark with easy access. Some noise from plumbing and traffic, but not obtrusive. Great shower - excellent pressure and hot water. Carpets were in good condition. Easy walk into town [15 - 20 minutes] and choose to parks for a more relaxing stroll.

One of the advantages of the Bella Vista motels is that they are reasonably consistent. Clean and tidy but the studio was a bit small for two persons. Situated on a main road but the night time road noise was not a problem.

Invercargill, New Zealand
Hi Fran, A coach is available from the motel which will take you to the ferry to go to Stewart Island. The current cost including the bus to the ferry and ferry crossing to Stewart Island is NZ$178.00 return per person. This may change for next season. Driving from Christchurch to Invercargill takes about 7 hours driving, stops are extra, There are lots to see in Invercargill which is a great place to take some day trips from before moving on with your travels. Regards Selby & Janelle Askin.
