We booked the 'last available room' at the Barvarian Motel on a very busy night in invercargill. We called the motel directly and so that the motel would not have to pay a charge to a website. We gave credit card number to secure the booking. My partner asked if he should pay now. They said 'no it is fine as we have your card no. We were unable to say when we were arriving other than it was that evening after work. We live 2 hours away from invercargill. Just as we were leaving the house my partner got a call to say they were cancelling our room and we should call another number (motel) to book there instead. I called the Barvarian back to say we were already on our way, why were they cancelling our room? They told me there was something wrong with the plumbing apparently somehow undiscovered until this very moment (oh really) and we should book at the other motel the number they gave. We called them to discover that due to the very high business numbers (because of the event, the only room available were $100 more than what we had booked. We declined. We believe that the Barvarian held the room and fobbed us off, cancelling our booking to sell it at a more expensive rate as there was high demand on that night. As it happens we found a very beautiful and luxurious Air bnb in Winton by the name of 'LUXURIOUS EXECUTIVE Home'with your very charming hosts Craig and Ali, that was cheaper and very plush. I can highly recommend it. Thanks Barvarian. You did us a favour.

Thanks for your review. We're really sorry that you don't believe us. But we would never do that to our guest. You can check on all booking site to find out that Bavarian motel is one of the few motels in Invercargill that never raise price during busy days like other motel did. You can see that when you call us to book the room on the same day you arrive, we only inform you that the price is $120 for the night while other motel raise the price $50 to $100. Normally for guest arrive late, we usually check the room at 5PM to close the windows. The windows are open during the day for fresh air to come in the room. We close the windows and turn on the heater so you can arrive in a warm room. But during the checking I found out there is very bad smell come from the toilet. It can not be flushed properly. I have tried to solve it myself and call plumber but no one available on Saturday at 5PM. So according to our ethic we can not sell you a room with problem and call you around 5.30PM to inform you that.We have tried our best to find the only motel with room available to inform you a solution. We're really glad that you find a more enjoyable place to stay for the night. And you're welcome to drop by and check whether we have held the room to sell for higher price. As the host of Bavarian motel, we're proud that we never raise the price to sell the room during busy day. Because we felt it is morally wrong to do that. You can have a look at our room and price in our website www.bavarianmotel.co.nz

I stayed for just one night before a dog show with my dog. Spacious unit, clean and comfortable. Spotless and well kept. Some traffic noise but not disturbing. Recommended and would definitely stay again.

The room looked a little tired and would benefit from a spruce up, but was comfortable and had everything we needed for an overnight stay. Bed was good and ample space in the bathroom. Very clean and well supplied with crockery, cutlery, toaster and a full sized stove. Only a short drive into town with Countdown nearby.

Stayed in the 1 bedroom apartment, at first looked a little austere but if you look past that the mote has everything you would want. The furnishings are good quality and comfortable the bed has good linen and an electric blanket. The heating is great and the bathroom large and light thanks to a large skylight. Free Wi-Fi , You Tube and Netflix add to the package. Its close to town but not close enough to walk. The staff are helpful and friendly. The unit was close to the road so we did get a little road noise, but not enough to be uncomfortable. A great place to stay, we were there 4 nights.

Service is first class and unmatched; the highly motivated owners work here themselves. Rooms a bit outdated, but very spacious, warm and all those little extras are perfect. Good quality towels and mattresses, fridge, soap and shampoo,... Noise level can be high due to the proximity to the street, but that's expected in a motel. I would book again here.
