We stayed here 2 nights. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are big and with very good amenities. Location is perfect and very close to sightseeing, supermarkets etc. Even the New Year's fireworks display was a short walk from the hotel. Hardly anything to complain about. Will definitely stay here in future.
Friendly check in, great room rate and well equipped room. The bed was enormous and comfortable and the young team were very cheery. We enjoyed our stay and would have no hesitation in staying at Quest Dunedin again as it's handy to everything and good value for money.
I had stayed in Quest hotels before and always thought of them as a simple but at least clean accommodation option but this particular property turns out to being simply awful all around: Upon arrival I find that the promised King bed is instead two singles shoved together with only a very flimsy topper. As I had booked a King and generally find this unacceptable if hotels do this, I went straight to reception to complain. Unfortunately, this Quest in Dunedin has the most unfriendly non-serviced orientated staff member at reception. Clearly not interested in her job which mostly consists on sitting and playing with her personal mobile phone, she was extremely unfriendly and barfed at me that this room type never has proper King beds. When I retorted that their own website claims King bedding, she tells me that "we usually get no complaints" and that's it. Besides the obvious issue at hand, could they at least have someone with half a sense of customer service in this role? Especially after Covid, you'd think there are plenty of able and eager service oriented staff members out there desperately looking fr work and you employ such a snotty and lazy person to work on your reception? This was not the only occasion- the next day I wanted a well deserved sleep in and around 10:30 called up reception to ask for getting my room serviced. "You should have told us earlier, probably had your Do no disturb on?" she replies. Yes, I did, because I wanted to get a bit of a sleep in. I am being told that I can only get some fresh towels as the "cleaning team is now on a different floor" and when I come back later in the evening, that is exactly what I find: Almost as to spite me, they had thrown a couple of towels on the bed and that was it. Not even the garbage bin had been cleaned and the room had been in a rather doubtful hygienic state to begin with (pretty much all glasses and cutlery were dirty and the little table in the room had smear prints all over it- great care, right in the middle of Level 1 Covid alert). I also discovered the hotel states 10am as their check out time which is just ridiculous. I dared to ask the usually disengaged lady at reception if I could at least get a 11am checkout but got lectured that "10am is pretty standard". To that all so wise lady in this provincial Quest hotel- it is certainly not. 12 noon is what I would call standard or maybe 11am but 10? What nonsense and I told her that this is extremely grandfatherly timing (as are the reception hours, shortly before 6pm and it all gets zipped up, guess the sole receptionist has worked so hard to keep any work away from her that he urgently needs to lock it all up...). Other than that- the usual grey standard Quest room but not even an aircon, hence the need to open the window which forces you to listen to the drunk patron of some near by pub all night. Standard simple shower, dirty Kitchenette, an unclean table. And a really really bad sleep on the infamous "gap" between the two extremely soft and wobbly single mattresses and cheap and plastic-y pillows. Pretty much a horror hotel and not even that cheap for that. Together with the outrageously unfriendly reception staff and the lack of proper (if any at all!) cleaning procedures, I'd warn everyone to just stay away from this god awful property.…
Can’t fault the room I had, I was on the second floor and my room 211 was very quiet. First impressions were great - decent size, nice little kitchen area with everything you would need and a clean bathroom. Shower was awesome, tons of pressure which was a pleasant surprise. Nothing at all to complain about, even the internet is fast! Car park was full but able to park next door in the Victoria so no issues there. Friendly girl in reception, I’ll be booking in here again no doubt
I stayed recently on a one night work trip. I arrived later than expected and was kindly helped by another guest to access the building and find my welcome pack with the room key etc. I had booked a car park in advance (highly recommended you do this if you have a car) and it was no hassle at all. The room was clean and tidy with everything I needed. A good sized kitchenette, free and usable wifi and two desk options for the work i needed to do. On a cold Dunedin night it was so appreciated to arrive to a room with the lamps on and heater warming the room to a nice temperature. The bed was huge and pillows comfortable. I will most definitely be staying here again if I'm in town for work again.
