Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's a homeless emergency housing location it shouldn't be considered a motel, illegally misleads consumers, in multiple ways, cctv useless, carpark unsafe, owner will lie to your face, do not recommend

One of if not the best welcoming I have ever experienced whilst staying away. The hosts were simply amazing and went above and beyond to ensure our experience was everything we’d hoped for. Very affordable and also a handy location to most things. Will definitely be staying here again on our travels and highly recommend this as a place to stay!

Owners very pleasant and helpful. Room clean and comfortable with good wheelchair access. Good parking. Quiet. Walking distance to central city, hospital, university, plenty of restaurants, cafes, supermarket. Would definitely stay there again. Complimentary newspaper delivered in the morning.

Not only was John welcoming and friendly with loads of info about the city when we arrived late as last minute booking. When we decided to spend another night as he sold the city to us so well and we knew the city motels were full due to a concert he sent a message round and worked to find us another nights stay in another motel... wonderful. Thank you

I've been meaning to write this review for a while now. I travel to Dunedin quite a bit for work and I all ways stay in the Garden Motel. Its extremely clean and the own always turns on the heater in the room before I arrive, its a really great touch. About 100m from the motel there a lovely Thai & Turkish restaurant which also does take away. I definitely this motel when visiting Dunedin.

The unit was clean, with a full kitchen and electric blankets. For us the unit was a little cold, we only had the wall heater and a separate fan heater. This is commonplace for Kiwi motels, but it really needs addressing. Otherwise everything was up to scratch and the location is central to everything, handily pizza and other fast foods are nearby. Something the motel cannot do anything about but we noticed it soon enough; State Highway 1 runs through the city, heavy trucks run down the hill into the city and their exhaust brakes can keep you awake. We found it really annoying. If you are noise sensitive then a hotel even more central would be advisable.

Great comfortable room. Everything you need. Good location, we walked to restaurants and the gardens with the dog. Friendly staff who make the bed every day even if you are staying for a while. Dog friendly. Warm. Excellent value for money. Thanks.

We were a group of eighty year olds returning to Dunedin for a class reunion. The booking process was easy and very helpful, the welcome warm, and the motels were warm, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. The motel is so well situated and handy to transport, cafes, and shops . The University and Halls of Residence are close at hand

Just stayed the night on our way down south, had the two bedroom unit and it was perfect for the five of us. Good parking and WiFi was excellent. Really close to cbd and restaurants. The rooms are a little tired but beds comfortable and everything is clean so for the price it is great. Rooms were warm as it was a warm day so if there was any recommendation it would be air con but not a main reason not to stay again. Thanks so much.
