Detailed Reviews
My wife and I travelled all over the North and South Island when we visited in Feb/March this year and I can honestly say this was the best B&B we stayed in. When we arrived and walked through the stunning garden and then the beautiful house and we were very impressed. The house is a Victorian style house with beautiful features, furniture and artefacts everywhere. The owners Bruce and Wendy were very welcoming and also a wealth of information, not just about Dunedin, but also the history of New Zealand itself. Wendy puts out fresh flowers in the house daily and Bruce cooks a fantastic breakfast, which is very generous, with lots of different choices, plus cooked really well. We stayed in the Oak room which was beautiful, with an excellent en suite and walk in wardrobe. It was so nice we were terrified that we would spill our coffee on the carpet !!!!!!
Definitely recommend it.

Everything is charming.
Bruce, his wife, the house, the breakfast, the atmosphere...
Really awesome.
You feel like home. They are taking care of every small detail.
Must stay there, don't look for other place.

Our review is much delayed (our apologies!), but we had to come back and leave one and tell of our wonderful stay at The Argoed. The property is beautiful and inviting, and we found ourselves in awe and feeling at home all at once. Bruce was a wonderful host and was very kind during our visit. His breakfast in the morning was one of, if not the best breakfast we had during our trip to New Zealand. It was a great experience to eat such wonderful food in such an interesting room, all while getting to know other guests at the B&B. The amenities were spot on and should we find ourselves in Dunedin again, we would 100% stay here. Thank you, Bruce, for an amazing stay!

This is truly an exceptional B&B. is is located in the home of Bruce and Wendy who have created an environment that is comfortable and welcoming. Our room was upstairs and was roomy and appointed with the finest of linens. The bathroom and shower just down the hall was easily accessible. Bruce is a master chef. Each morning we had our choice of several traditional breakfast items. Their home is situated in an upscale neighborhood and is just a short distance to the downtown area. We could not have found a better place to stay and would definitely return should we visit Dunedin again.

Where to start... Bruce's place was such a pleasant surprise. We were looking for an overnight enroute, but ended up regretting we couldnt stay longer. From the moment we entered we realised this place is a gem. An Old English manor house in Dunedin, oozing elegance and style, and being treated like royalty. The house and service we received from Bruce took us back to a time when service was a pleasure. Bruce pre-empted our every need, and his service was friendly, warm and personal with old fashioned charm. Our rooms had everything we needed, and Bruce provided us with fresh milk for tea/coffee. Free wifi was provided, and Bruce had plently of suggestions of where to find a good place to eat depending on taste and style, made our booking and even offered to arrange a cab if we preferred not to drive. His place is an easy five minute drive from the city centre where you will find most of Dunedin's popular restaurants. On our return, we found the fire lit in the music room/ lounge with an offer of tea and homemade biscuts served by our host. Our sleep was pleasant and we woke up refreshed, walking into the dining room we found the fire lit again, music playing and the finest silver and china. Beautiful views over a lush garden. Breakfast was a combination of continentaland cooked - go hungry. It huge and pleasant, with regular refills on our coffee.
We left feeling sorry we couldnt stay. What a pleasant experience. And Bruce's place is very reasonably priced. For this level of service and facility one would expect to pay much more. If you visit Dunedin be sure to stay over with Bruce. We loved it, and will highly recommend it to anyone.

Bruce and Wendy were great hosts. They were very welcoming, our room was the Copperbeech Room which was luxurious the bed was very comfortable and the furnishings throughout the house were beautiful. They have a great library. Breakfast was fantastic with many choices that you select from a menu the night before. Our only regret was that we didn't stay for more than one night!

We booked this b&b based on previous trip advisor reviews. I have to say this was the best recommendation for our lengthy tour of the two islands.
As per the other reviews, we met the most wonderful owner and gentleman, Bruce. What a fabulous friendly host he was.
The room we had was spacious, clean and en-suite. The bed was the best we had slept in during the whole of our New Zealand stay. This is not just down to wonderful “window dressing” seen elsewhere of just nice bedding, but often an inadequate mattress - this was the real deal, great bedding and mattress.
Also as commented elsewhere, Bruce’s breakfasts cannot be beaten. A wonderful selection he offers and cooked to perfection.
My only regret is we only stayed here two nights. Thanks Bruce!
I would have no hesitation recommending you stay here if needing accommodation in Dunedin.

The house, the garden and the hosts are all perfect. We loved everything about our stay at The Argoed (unfortunately only one night, but we look forward to another, longer, stay). Bruce and Wendy are great hosts providing all the attention and information that you could possibly need. Breakfast is outstanding and served in a beautiful room, as all rooms are. Given our limited time Bruce recommended the Toitu Otago Settlers Museum as a must do - it is fantastic (thankyou Bruce for the recommendation and for the Speight's Alehouse recommendation). We did not know much about Dunedin before we stayed for one day and night, but we have found out enough to make us want to come back for longer - there is a lot to see and do.

The Argoed is so good that we wished we'd stayed another night or two. The house is old and beautiful (I really wanted to live there!). The room was beautifully appointed, with all the little touches you would hope for. Everything was high standard and spotlessly clean. Location is excellent, and Dunedin is an interesting place. Bruce, the host, is a lovely man, very helpful and informative, and made us feel really welcome and at home. Breakfast was superb (especially the Scottish breakfast, I enjoyed that Bruce!). This must be one of the very best B&Bs in New Zealand!

Lovely well kept house, finely furnished in English country house style. Very comfortable, very large bed. Breakfast is a real treat, with choices including Scottish, Kiwi, and Australian. Bruce and Wendy are impeccable and attentive hosts. Highly recommended as an overnight stay (or longer) but be aware that the address can be difficult to find without an accurate GPS!
