Wonderful old former Presbyterian manse with beautiful timber lined rooms. Very nice bedroom with separate lounge area. They are upstairs on slightly different levels and are easily navigated with care.
Ana was a delightful and gracious host and we thoroughly enjoyed conversing with her. She went over and above her normal responsibilities in looking after us.
It was lovely to be amongst the native bird song.
Strongly recommended!

We asked Ana about seeing the Southern Royal Albatross Centre. It was late in afternoon so she suggested skipping the center and gave us directions to a spot we could see the Albatross as they returned to their evening spot. She was also a delightful hostess, serving us a wonderful breakfast. I left Sandisk behind and she was kind enough to mail it to me.

What a nice B&B! A beautiful house and garden, a very comfortabel room. Ana is a wonderful hostess and prepares a delicious breakfast. I enjoyed my stay tremendously. Furthermore Portobello is the perfect storting point to discover the Otago Peninsula.

Take the time when in Dunedin to travel the short distance to Portobello on the Otago Peninsula, this Beautiful B&B was a Gem!
Just before the village of Portobello watch for Captain Eady's sign, this B&B is one of the most welcoming places we encountered on our holiday recently, Beautiful gardens and cosy rooms with fresh flowers from the garden. Magnificent views into Otago Harbour. A short walk to the village was a great 'plus'.
The breakfast was organic and lot's of home made delights, fig jams, stewed plums, Cheeses and warm crusty breads. Hot breakfast on offer also..just Perfect!
Richard and Ana were the perfect hosts, very informative and proud of their beautiful area and home, and so they should...it was wonderful!
Top marks from two very happy Irish Guests.

A very strange place. Richard has retired but seems to have no interested in the business, Ana stil works and is juggling this with her day job. Ana is a nice person and did chat with us. we had to carry our own bags up the stairs to the bedroom which was the captain eadys lookout, as a lookout it would be fine as a bedroom it is less so. Parking is restricted out on the road which is a cul de sac. Breakfast was OK. I wished we had been in Dunedin and visited the peninsula, being in Portobello restricted where we could eat, there being 2 local places or a long drive back to Dunedin.

We had 2 nights at Captain Eady`s Lookout and met friends from Canada there. The B&B is actually in Portobello on the Otago peninsula and it is a long, windy road to get there but we loved it. The house has been nicely restored and has a beautiful garden and wonderful views over the water. The rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms new. Richard welcomed us with glasses of wine and recommended a nice place for dinner. He booked the Elm Wildlife Tour of penguins for us for the next day. We also visited Larnach Castle and Glenfalloch Gardens which are also on the peninsula, so we didn`t have to drive into Dunedin until the next day.
It wouldn`t be so convenient if you were expecting to do most things in Dunedin, but for us it was great.

Anna and Richard were delightful hosts who provided an excellent breakfast and a large and comfortable room with a fabulous shower and lovely outdoor seating area!! Portobello is a beautiful place - very well located for all the natural and wildlife attractions of the Otago Peninsula. We had the downstairs room as the upstairs room was already booked - I think the upstairs room is very much better because of the views from the small balcony.

We booked the upstairs room (there are just 2 rooms at this property and I reccommend you book the upstairs room). The room was pleasant enough if a little awkward due to it being in the eves of the roof, however the views far out weigh any tiny issues with the room. The bathroom was fine. There was a separate siting room with biscuits and cold drinks if required (including wine - a nice touch I thought). Breakfast was a bit early for my liking (up to 9am) but it was fabulous. The owners are lovely people, however, I feel that the BnB is unfortunately becoming too much for them.

We have just spent three delightful days at this bed and breakfast. Ana and Richard were very warm and welcoming, the rooms were lovely, the views were great and the whole experience was relaxing and uplifting. The food, presentation and service at breakfast was very good. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this bed and breakfast to others.

I tend to agree with the review in Nov 2009. Richard, I think, does his best but appears a little forgetful and a reluctant host on occasions. Ana is busy working and cannot always be present to help with breakfast. Our wish to change times for breakfast appeared to be a bit of a problem and the impression given was one of inconvenience. The cold fare was very good but bacon and eggs arrived with the cereal and sausages stayed frozen (we stayed for 3 nights) and an omelette was out of the question. We were offered one egg or two but our reply was never heard.
There is a small resident's lounge with TV but insufficient room if all guests want to use the facilities.
The garden and views from the rear of the property are beautiful. Parking is difficult at the end of the cul-de-sac.
We enjoyed our visit but have reached the conclusion that we felt like naughty schoolchildren much of the time - fearful of being a nuisance. Like naughty schoolchildren we have found this amusing but others may not.
Portobello is lovely and the scenic drive to this hotel is well worth it as long as you leave plenty of time to negotiate the twisty roads.
Handy for Dunedin and the Albatross Centre. Yellow=eye penguins and sea lions can ve seen on arranged trips.
