Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

This is a really good motel. The rooms are built in the form of suites - two rooms upstairs and down, with a downstairs sitting room. Everything that could be expected was provided, including a fresh bottle of milk instead of the horrible little sachets that all others give.

We arrived on a cold winter's evening and the rooms had been pre-warmed for us.

The hosts, Sally and Michael are warm, friendly and obliging. They are good ambassadors for their wonderful city. Michael went out of his way to help with a request we made.

It is a little way out of town, but worth the additional effort.

The highest recommendation.

Spent 3 days recently at 858 George. Overall a quite pleasant stay. We had the unit closest to George Street itself which was stand alone. Well appointed and comfortable, road noise was occasionally nuisance value. Great location and we even felt part of the University of Otago campus given the number of students around

Loved our stay here. Bed was comfy, shower pretty decent, about a 10min walk to city centre which worked for us. Our rooms were clean and well equipped. The owner was flexible and let us park our car there earlier that day so we didn’t have to search for parks while exploring the city. Really appreciated that. We will definitely return again.

Friendly check in and very helpful.
Rooms were clean and self contained for cooking and private car park.
We had a two bedroom unit with one upstairs and both rooms were self contained.
Clean bathrooms and good showers.
Would definitely return to this place.

The people working here are very friendly and helpful to advise you on whatever you need. Our room was very spacious, seemed very well looked after. Breakfast is brought to your room every day so you can have a calm breakfast yourself. I can't really think of any critique. I would totally recommend this place.

A great place to stay in Dunedin. Boutique hotel-like accommodation, very modern, new and spacious. The hosts were warm and welcoming, offered good advice for the activities we had planned (watching rugby and golf). Walking distance to town and free parking on-site. Can't really ask for more. Will definitely stay again.

Myself and 2 friends went to Dunedin for 2 night at Queens Birthday weekend and I was in charge of finding accommodation . I was directed to 858 George St motels were on enquiring they had exactly what I wanted. On arrival Sally and Michael were very welcoming and offered us any help we required during our stay at their motel.
We wanted to cook a meal on the 2nd night and have a quiet night. Sally the manager was more than helpful, both providing an oven and baking dishes. Our individual rooms with each having its own ensuite was great. There was a seperate lounge from the 2 bedrooms where we gathered. The motel unit was sparkling clean and the beds were warm and comfortable. I would fully recommend this motel to friends and I will certainly be back to stay when next in Dunedin.

A beautifully appointed motel room. Everything in it screams opulence, from the wonderfully large bedroom, the decor, furniture and appliances to the decadent bathroom which includes a heater for those colder mornings.
A lot of thought and detail has gone into the room and the owners should be congratulated on their efforts.
It may be a little pricey for a motel, but for those who are seeking a well above average abode and of a discerning nature, this is the place for you.
Would definitely stop if I visited Dunedin again.
I think all rooms are situated on a corner, and thus have lots of windows making it very light and airy.

We had a two night stay in a two bedroom apartment, it was extremely well equipped, spacious and in a great location. Friendly reception that assisted us to plan our day trips, outstanding service. Information in our room about Dunedin was very comprehensive. Most enjoyable stay, five star, highly recommended

I highly recommend staying at this motel.
I loved everything about it from the warm, welcoming, friendly and helpful staff to the unique, quaint, cosy very comfortable room we stayed in.
The distinguished wooden furniture add a homely feel to a small but well suited room. The bed King size bed was bigger than I'm used to which made our good night's sleep feel even more luxurious.
Even the location of the motel is great and easy to find.
