Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed at this motel 5 years ago on a previous visit to Dunedin so had no hesitation staying a further two nights this month.
The motel is a two minute walk from the Octagon which is great as we didn't have a car with us.In truth the motel is dated but the room we had was large, it was clean, the bed was comfortable and we had a great ensuite- it was not luxurious but it was all that we needed or wanted.
The $6 brekkie is basic but again, it suited us fine.We also took advantage ( after 5 days on the Otago Rail Trail) of the cheap and comprehensive laundry facilities that the motel offers.
The staff are extremely helpful and when the booked shuttle (Kiwi Shuttles) didn't turn up at the agreed time to take us to the airport, the receptionist was brilliant and arranged a taxi for us even though they are in short supply in Dunedin on a Sunday morning.
We will stay here every time we visit Dunedin

It's nothing fancy but at just five minutes' walk from the heart of Dunedin, this motel is well located and good value. Lots of free car parking and clean rooms, albeit with decor that's a little dated. The lobby feels like something from the old Soviet Union but don't let that put you off; the rooms themselves are fine. A very basic breakfast can be purchased for a few dollars but you'd be better walking the short distance to the cafés on the Octagon for a proper meal. In the evening, after dinner and drinks, you'll be home in a jiffy. Recommended for a hassle-free stay in Dunedin.

We have stayed here multiple times over the past few years. (Even lived here when it was the YWCA 40 years ago)
The staff are fantastic and go out of their way to assist you. The rooms are very clean and tidy and some even have a spa bath. The best room is the one on the top floor with the seperate bedroom, costs a little more but well worth the extra. Centrally located just 1 street away from the Octagon and very reasonably priced.

This may not be a five-star Motel, but it does have features which makes it outstanding and worth its rating.
Reception on arrival was very friendly and welcoming, and despite being very early, was able to check into the room immediately.
Room was large and roomy containing a good Guest Compendium, comfortable Queen size bed, two leather recliner chairs in front of a television set as well as a table and chairs.
Décor was a little dated but still tasteful. However, the Motel appears to be undergoing refurbishment, so it can only get better.
Has a large roomy bathroom with an excellent shower and an absolutely superb bath.
Excellent unlimited free Wi-Fi access.
Is excellently located, right in the centre of the city; has great off-street parking and is real value for money. All currently making it now my most preferred place to stay when in Dunedin.

This was our fourth visit to Dunedin and each time we stay at 97 Moray.

In truth ithe motel is becoming somewhat dated but the rooms are spacious and comfortable. It was good to see that our bathroom had been modernised.

Whilst it is not your modern complex , it is a very pleasant place to stay, literally three minutes walk from the Octagon with all its restaurants and cafes. i doubt we could get anything better for our buck!

The staff are always so very helpful and whilst their continental breakfast was not available because of Covid, they still offered to serve it in our room. Its a perfectly adequate breakfast and all for $6 !

We will continue staying at 97 Moray on all future visits to Dunedin.

We loved our 2 nights here, but given the huge windows in the lounge and bedroom, can imagine the heat in summer would be pretty fierce. Having said that, would stay again - but not in summer. Bathroom spacious with a ledge for our toiletries. Bed very comfortable (good support)

We had a very pleasant welcome here by Tony( I think). The room was fantastic and the ensuite was huge. Everything was clean. We had everything we needed and it was in walking distance of everything. We were even allowed to leave the car there for a couple of hours in the morning.

What a fantastic overnighter we had here! The staff were OUTSTANDING - friendly, funny, helpful and very inviting. The motel room was more than adequate - roomy, warm and had everything we needed. And it was top notch clean!!
It felt really homely - and on top of all this, the location could not have been better. Thank you so much for making our stay so wonderful. We will be back!

We arrived just as the boss was going home. He smiled, welcomed us in, gave us a great room and lots of info.
The motel is in the absolute centre of the city...walking distance to everything. The rooms are very clean with plenty of space. We will definitely stay here next time we are in Dunedin.

This is a motel that's just off the main Octagon in Dunedin. If you're coming from the train depot it's an uphill walk so find a taxi. But once there you'll probably figure out how to make an easier walk of it from the main hub, which is just down the slope. The motel is a bit difficult to locate, even for taxis, because the motel is fronted by a non-descript vestibule. But the number 97 is what you are looking for. If you arrive at night, you might choose to walk in through the car drive. What you'll find is an unpretentious motel in an excellent location to support your touring demands. The I-site is down hill in the main hub along with multiple restaurants, bars, and trinket shops. Both George and Princes streets radiate out from there with more shops, food, and attractions. The motel room generally comes with a fridge, microwave, coffee jug, and utensils; but no burners. You can request a morning newspaper and, if hungry in the morning, buy a breakfast for NZ$4.50. A nice treat are the heated towel racks. In some rooms the shower has no lip around the base; but there is a curtain. Again, it's a rather drab setting, but extremely convenient. Inquire at the I-site about public bus transport to the major tourist sites (most sites are walkable at least one way) including the St. Clair beach esplanade, and the talking parrots at the Botanic Garden. Because I wasn't a resident I could not secure a bus schedule, but I could take notes from the office copy and pay for the reproduction of the pages I required.
