Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I had a reservation for a private room ensuite after completing my subantarctic island voyage of three weeks. I was met by a very friendly young man who gave me a tour of the hostel so I knew where everything I might need could be found. My room was the most pleasant hostel space I've experienced. Firm bed, great bathroom, fridge, desk, lamp, armoir and one key for all entrances and my door. A brisk walk to the town center and local attractions so my car could remain parked. I felt very comfortable and satisfied with this very pleasant place. If I return to Dunedin in the future I will make sure I have my reservations fo Kiwis Nest.

I have stayed here a few times. Great backpacker accommodation. Warm, comfortable, clean, homely atmosphere. Lovely, helpful, kind manager. Piping hot showers. Excellent kitchen facilities. It is a very popular destination and often full. Doesn't appear to attract a rowdy clientele. Very cosy and civilised.

The Kiwi's Nest is a discount inn that provided us with a good night's sleep in a fairly charming setting. It is a converted old home, like a B&B, with some hostel-style rooms in the back. We had a double room with ensuite. The hotel is affiliated with the BBH backpackers (hostel) association.

Reception was very friendly and provided us with some good dining suggestions. The location is good -- a short walk to the downtown center (the Octagon). They had a few spaces for us to park the car.

The rate we paid was NZ$60; if we had been BBH members, there would have been a discount ($3 per person, I believe).

Room included a refrigerator, microwave, hot water kettle, instant coffee, tea, etc.

Unlike many places of lodging that are affiliated with BBH or Hosteling International, this place was not loud. There was not much foot traffic inside, and it was a restful, quiet stay. We would happily return.

Honestly the most worst place I had been too since I arrived no one was at the reception and they put their number on the door but for 40 minutes no one has answered the damn phone and I left a message as well. If you are unattended then answer the phone. I can’t stand at the reception for hours. And I still had to wait. Honestly the worst service.

We sort of stumbled into here because we had some mistake with our booking and we took really long with the check-in but the staff was so friendly and helped us a lot. She gave us a private room with more than 4 beds I think and we had 4 person. Well located with parking(not many though). The room was so clean and nearly perfect after some unpleasant experience previously.

Will I return? yes definitely. it is almost a home and thank you so much for the hospitality

I pre-booked to attend the NZ Masters Games held biannually in Dunedin. I had a great room with a handy kitchenette right outside the door.

There are plenty of showers and toilets throughout the two level accommodation.

Easy walking distance to the middle of town (10-15 minutes) with plenty of on street parking available at the door.

I will certainly return again for the next games.

Kiwi's Nest has a great central location near Dunedin's city centre and main shopping street - it's just a 10 minute walk away. I needed to run some errands the morning after arriving and the staff was extremely helpful in giving me a verbal orientation of what was nearby. They were also very kind in helping out whenever I needed anything.

I was out most of the time so I didn't have the chance to use the lounge, but it looked cosy enough for guests to gather for a meal or just to watch some television. Thank you - I enjoyed my stay tremendously! :)

This review is a little late, but it needs to be written nonetheless. I stayed at Kiwi's nest in June 2014, arriving straight from the airport. I was greeted warmly and immediately felt secure. Wendy the hostel manager is one of a kind. She went out of her way to make sure I was comfortable and even helped me look for a flat, giving me advice since I had no idea where to even begin looking! She is definitely the reason why kiwis nest is such an amazing place to stay. It is here that I made my first friends in New Zealand, travelers like me that just kept coming back, even just to pop by and say hello to her.
The rooms are tidy, and the place is warm, which is a huge bonus in Dunedin winters. The rooms are fairly priced, and the place is quiet, so great for families, and for a good sleep.
By far the best hostel in Dunedin! I recommend it to everyone!
