Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We arrived I bit earlier than normal checkin and we were extremely tired. The outside of hotel is eye catching with its historical architecture and the inside had a vibrant boutique vibe. Our first encounter was with Romano at the front desk and he was beyond hospitable. He took us in a bit early and got us setup in a quiet room and went above and beyond to help us with our luggage and work luggage to the room. He gave us great advice on what to do with the little time we had in Dunedin and was extremely helpful. He is an exact example of the kind of person I would hire to work for my company. Even helped us the next morning to arrange a taxi and load our luggage in the rain!!! 10 stars!!! Highly recommend staying here and saying hello to Romano! -Elizabeth Gilson

Cannot rate this place highly enough 5 stars is not enough . Although valet parking was not available when we arrived , we could park nearby easily enough for free until next morning . The ambience and decor of this warm friendly hotel took us back in time to a little place in Scotland, had to remind ourselves where we were , huge room , extremely comfy beds . Concierge , sorry forgot name was outstanding helping us the next day with an issue we had , not with hotel a personal matter . One thing I will say .. it wasn't made clear to us that although we were b and b , we had to pay for juice snd coffee extra ... minor detail on this extraordinary stay , thank you all

So I needed a great place to stay in Dunedin, close to restaurants and shops and within the CBD, and the Fable Dunedin satisfied all of these requirements. Due to a mid morning arrival "Raimondo" immediately identified the effects of the long haul flight and that as such access to our accommodation became his priority, so he sent us for breakfast (just across the road) and shortly after called the Cell Phone having gone the extra yard to get our room ready well ahead of when it was expected. That was very much appreciated and reflects the service you can expect at the Fable Dunedin, not mention the subsequent restaurant and shopping recommendations. Thank you. Well done. Check this Out, by Checking In when you are next in Dunedin especially if you are connecting with a cruise.

Friendly staff at the reception, nicely decorated rooms. Single pane windows so no good insulation. Room was not reachable with the elevator directly but required carrying of suitcases via a staircase. Breakfast package not worth it. Limited valet parking. All in all not a good value for the money.

Dear docpublic, We're sorry to hear that your stay with us was rather unsatisfactory. We can only take your feedback and try to make minor adjustments so this could be minimized for our next guests, and we thank you for sharing this feedback. Fable Dunedin has many other room categories which might appeal to you for the space & comfort they provide. Our team members are also available to help with luggage as & when requested. We stayed for only 1 night prior to boarding a cruise ship. So perhaps we room we were given reflected our short stay. The restaurant was small but the food & drinks excellent. Our room, 601, was described as a “luxury room” including breakfast. But at NZD 630 we thought it expensive. It had a “L” shape with a view on an internal light court. The bathroom sink had a problem draining & you could not turn off the bathroom fan which was noisy. We were given a tablet on checkin which had all the hotel details & restaurant menus. It was hard to return to the home screen & by morning the battery was flat. IPads would have been easier to use but this was a google tablet.

Dear David, Thank you for providing your feedback. We're sad to hear that the room layout did not interest you, and that the extraction fan in the bathroom added to some inconvenience. Luckily, the Press Club Restaurant & Bar added to your cherished experience with us and hopefully that's what you'd return for on your next visit to Dunedin. Please feel free to write to fom@fabledunedin.com so we can enhance your stay the next time you're in Dunedin. Best Regards Guru & team

An exceptionally small room with gabled ceiling. I whacked my head a couple times. The size wouldn't have been such an issue if it weren't for the oversized wardrobe and chest for fridge. The wardrobe door opened no more than more than a 6-8 inches. We were on the top floor. the elevator goes no farther then the second to top floor which meant lugging suitcases up a couple flights. We're in our late 60s so this could have created quite a challenge but we managed.

This was 'move in day" at uni halls, so very limited options for accommodation and we were well pleased to get a room here. Attentive staff Valet parking was very efficient and our queen room was fine. We used the antique lift which was interesting.

Stayed here to celebrate engagement with my Fiance. Upon check-in greeted by friendly staff in reception, a complimentary welcome iced tea as well perfect when parched from a day of travelling. A tablet is given to for the room, so unique and smart, all menus and info hotel on ipad, not to mention it’s also the phone, and of course option to surf Chrome. We were given the Mason Suite for our stay and what a beautiful room. Lots of natural light from windows, incredibly spacious, and beautiful modern décor. The bathroom is stunning, massive bathtub perfect for the Lush Bath Bomb I had, not to mention spacious, and the shower felt like a mini waterfall just gorgeous. We dined at The Press Club we were well looked after by the staff, super friendly, not to mention their knowledge of what they offer in terms of food and drinks. The food was delicious, both our plates clean food is that good. We changed our minds to have dessert in our room, and the staff were polite and happy to arrange that for us, special mention to Hamish went above and beyond! Breakfast was superb, I love a good breakfast and that’s what The Press Club offer, no buffet, an A la Carte menu and food is cooked to order. We found out the chefs names Mitch and Liam, thank you for a beautiful breakfast one of the best ways to start the day! Overall what a way to celebrate getting engaged! I can’t wait for another reason to come to Dunedin, I know where I will be staying!!

Modern, clean and just a few blocks from downtown. Large spacious room with plenty of closet space (Room 702). Only two rooms on this floor so nice and quiet. No view. Nice restaurant on the main level, good food, a bit expensive, service slow (Like everywhere, they seem a bit understaffed) but convenient and tasty. My only criticism is that when you arrive, exhausted after 30 hours of travel, at check-in the young enthusiastic staff shove a iPad in your hands. Then say “there are no phones in the room… in an emergency open tablet press here, touch this, swipe here” … all in about 4 seconds…. Wait? What? And send you in your way. It would be nice SLOW down or better yet to put some printed instructions right on the device so you KNOW how to use it!!
