Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Clearly after 50 years of leaving Singapore, owner of this nice place is still brainwashed by Lee Kuan Yew. No politics please. Other than that, staff was great, room maintained its original idea, restaurant was awesome. But still brainwashed.

Great staff, manager and location! Very nice hotel with bar and restaurant but rooms could perhaps do with a bit of a make over but, as long as I have a bed, toilet and shower that works I’m happy as busy exploring all day!! The hotel interior in main areas was great. Would visit again for sure!!! So helpful in reception and all staff helped each other when needed.

This pub-diner was a great experience, steeped in history and with a plentiful display of historic photos, including one of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh waving to the crowds from the balcony as part of their coronation tour in 1954. There's a good choice of where to sit and i can imagigine there is a great atmosphere when it is full and buzzing. (I went out for a very early midweek evening meal

I was so pleased that we were able to get into this hotel as we had been told some really good things about it. I am sorry that it did not come up to expectations. I was there for one night with a friend. We chose this hotel because it had parking and a restaurant as well as a good sized room. Parking and the bedroom were fine (the beds very comfortable), the Restaurant looked really nice but was closed. The bathroom we had needed a good refurbishment. Shower might have been clean but because it was old and darkish it didn't appear so. The water for showering wasn't overly hot. There was a hole in the wood in front of the shower, and the basin was cracked. Cleaning of the room also needs to be upgraded, rubbish was found under the large bed. The information folder had no real information, one page printed front and back, no information re the Restaurant, close by restaurants, things to do in Dunedin, TV stations etc.

This hotel was very clean, but the rest of the service was appalling. The cold taps in the bathroom vanity and the shower did not work and the hot tap was only warm. The bed had a electric blanket but you could only plug one side in as there was no power point for the other side. The bathroom floor was very rotten with wood chipping away, it is only a matter of a short time before someone puts there entire foot through it. The photos advertised for the hotel are not true and accurate.

I was initially concerned by some poor reviews this hotel received recently but was pleasantly surprised by the result. I had a great stay here. Maybe I was lucky and stayed at the right time, but if the hotel can maintain consistent standards across all guests I am sure they would move much higher in the traveller rankings. During my stay I had the privilege of staying in one half of the Queen’s room. It’s certainly not the standard it was when her majesty stayed here back in 1954 but it was undeniably comfortable. The toilet showed signs of wear and tear but it was clean. The beds were also made each day and the mattress was extremely comfortable. There definitely needs to be some work done to sound proof the room as traffic can be heard from the room. Guess that is what the ear plugs provided were for! I would have no qualms staying here again. Thanks for the great stay!!!

The bedroom was very comfortable with lovely linen. Partial secondary glazing cut out some of the road noise and the fan compensated for the warm night temperatures. Unfortunately, the bed was way too soft for our preference. Being on the top floor there was evidence of roof leaks in the ceiling, fortunately there was no rain while we were there so didn't find out if they were current. The bathroom was a huge letdown being a strip only as wide as the toilet, definitely not a space to share. Even worse was the black mould in all the crevices and the badly cracked bathroom sink. the other rooms may be in better condition, however, 307 is a room to avoid.

Taken there by my Daughter and Grand-Children but not sure what to expect. Basically it is indoor practice courts for Baseball, Softball and Cricket. We played Cricket. The staff set up the automatic Bowling Machine at a low speed and an easy first bounce making it reasonably easy for the Grand-Children (Aged 6 & 9) to hit the ball.Everybody had fun and lots of laughs.

Do not stay here! The most disgusting room I've ever stayed in. I have no idea how they can justify charging for a hovel. Cracked window, freezing cold with no heating, a window that wouldn't close, electric blanket plug that was bent out of shape and unusable, bathroom covered in mould and rust, ripped lino on the floor, cracked tiles on the wall.
