We stayed in September. We found Hotel well located in the city and close to the Octagon and restaurants. We were upgraded and on the 6th floor. These rooms have the bedroom/Bathroom downstairs and kitchenette/lounge area upstairs, which also had a small deck area. looking out onto the harbour side. Could just see the harbour but the railway station was nice to see also.
We didn't have meals included but the cafe on the reception floor had a good breakfast selection worth trying. The cafe also had lovely takeaway food like muffins, scones etc. This can be charged back to your room and if you arrange it, the cost is $20 per person per day.
They don't do laundry but have two guest laundry's to use, 3 dollars for the washer/dryer and complimentary small washing powder packet.
The staff were friendly and helpful
There is no free Parking and there is a charge of $18 per day in there spaces, which are limited and first in /first served policy. You'll be given a ticket to use to enter/leave the parking area. The Hotel is well used by sports teams base don our experience that weekend .
We'd recommend this Hotel when in Dunedin

I stayed here for four nights. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The location was good for the centre of town although there is a slight incline you have to go up but by Dunedin standards it is not steep. The hotel has good facilities in two on site restaurants, a cafe and wine bar and two laundry facilities for guests to use. The Dunedin Casino is also within the complex. The staff were friendly and helpful particularly the one lady in the Ports o’ Call but I didn’t get her name! The restaurant serves good food which is well cooked. If I am being ultra picky the tv in the room needs to be on an arm as you have to move the chairs to watch it if you don’t want to lie on the bed and housekeeping threw out an empty bottle which I intended to reuse and which wasn’t in the bin so I had to buy another one! Please ask housekeeping to only get rid of things in the bins!

A nice enough hotel. Whilst the room was an adequate size for a hotel in the middle of a town, there was too much furniture in the room which made it cramped. The bed was very comfortable. Despite there being three restaurants attached it was very difficult to get anything to eat there in the evening. The main one only served breakfast, the bar/cafe seemed to be closed by late afternoon and when we tried to eat at the third at just after 6 pm we were told that the restaurant part was closed but the bar part served the same food. The only table available was next to a draughty door so we left and found somewhere else to eat. The location of the hotel was good.

Would highly recommend!
Staff were super friendly and welcoming, nothing was an issue.
The room was clean, tidy, modern and the bed was huge and super comfortable.
We ordered room service for breakfast, I would highly recommend the full cooked breakfast, great value and delicious!
We will definitely be back.
Thank you so much.

It is in a good location near the centre of town and offers pretty cheap car parking. The room was small, but well equipped and the bed was comfortable. All the staff were very pleasant, the buffet breakfast was pretty good and there is an attached bar, bistro and casino as well as the restaurant. Self use laundry facilities are available at a small cost.

Was booked here through work since the first and second hotel options were full. The hotel is dated which is disappointing considering Scenic is a branded hotel. Upon check in I was NEVER advised that they were short staffed and there was no make up service (even though I was thee 4 days), which is fine if communicated to and then we could discuss how to best cater for my needs, but not tell people upfront is just outrageous. There were no additional coffee, milk, towels, toilet rolls etc for days, I had to ask for this which is really bad considering the cost per night (and no nightly discount?). The staff did not really care that I was not getting the hotel service I was expecting. I honestly think if you cant cater for a room cleaning service the least you can do is make sure you have extra items ready and available for your guests, we understand "COVID" but honestly there are ways to communicate and Scenic you just did not do a good job here!

Nice friendly and helpful reception staff.
This hotel has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Rooms are very, very spacious, warm, and include a bath which is extra special.
There was extra bedding, pillows, and lovely soft and warm dressing gowns in the room.
Big bed with comfortable bed linen.
There was also a heater if needed.
The room was attractively furnished, a little dated but absolutely fine.i think this added to the charm.
Breakfast in the morning was great. Staff were friendly and helpful. The selection was ample, fruit, cereals, yoghurts. Hot and cold drinks, toast and the hot buffet which included two types of eggs, bacon, sausages, hash browns, pancakes etc. Plenty of condiments on the side.

Newspaper available if needed and a lovely bonus was the generous kiwi made toiletries which even included a make up wipe and a little carry bag to take them home in.

Quiet location, friendly staff but a bit over priced. The room design and layout is very dated and the bath room do not have a sink. Instead the sink is located outside, in the main room taking up half the space which is odd. The room wifi was ok. Surprisingly, there’s no USB ports in the room. They haven’t updated the room for a while. The continental buffet breakfast is over priced when I paid for a friend to join me one morning. There’s not much variety of pastries and worst of all, no fresh fruits but canned fruits were served everyday. They don’t even have modern coffee machine where you can choose the type of coffee you want. Instead you have to order them through the reception. Omelette is not included in the buffet breakfast. You have to pay for it separately.

This was a group booking, so no choice in room options. We managed to get one of the small rooms and all though plenty of windows, half of our view overlooked an opposing wall a metre away and the rest overlooked the carpark. Excellent Super King sized bed and very comfy. Nice bathroom amenities - shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, soap and moisturiser and plenty of towels. Tiny bathroom, tap extended too far over the basin, so water splashed everywhere. Shower water pressure not very strong. Small step up into the bathroom, easy to trip over.Tea/coffee facilities in the room. UHT milk in the fridge but sign advising fresh milk available on request. No lighting over this area. Dull lighting in bedroom and bathroom. TV fixed to the wall so could only be viewed easily from the bed. The room came with 2 club chairs and a small table, better than many hotels. I'm sure the clock/radio beside the bed was circa 1980. We had a set menu for dinner with excellent starters and desserts, but my main was disappointing. It was presented with a sauce (a particular flavour l don't like) on top that wasn't advised in the menu. The risotto was very gluggy and l found inedible. Due to being in Covid Level 2, the breakfast wasn't a buffet as usual, but one ordered from the menu. A very average meal. Location is great and there is parking available on site. We did find the hotel public areas and restaurant to be somewhat cold, but the heater in the rooms kept them warm. Fan also provided. The hotel has been upgraded in the past few years, but there is still a shower over the bath. The hotel was clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. Would l stay here again, probably not.

Check-In, was a joy to behold, both welcoming and focused.
Room was found inviting and perfect for the occasion [New Years Eve 2020]
We dined next door @ the Casino with friends, wandered along the street to Dunedin's Octagon precinct, where we were suitably entertained at Vault 21, whilst listening to music and watching a midnight fireworks display.
Returning to the Casino for drinks, great company of patrons, coffee, thence retiring next door to the comfortable abode of our room.
Next morning, a lovely sleep in, before check-out [went as smoothly as check-in] before brunch next door at the Casino. Altogether, a perfect synergy experience.

Hi sastravelbydesign, Thanks for your questions, unfortunately we do not have a car rental available at the hotel but we do have a couple of rental places that are just up the block from us which is frequently used. We also don't have a drop service from the airport but we do recommend booking shuttles which are a lot cheaper than a taxi. We like to use Super Shuttle if you would like to make a booking please feel free to visit their website. Many thanks!
