We stayed here two nights while exploring the Otago Peninsula. The castle is in a great location as you can enjoy the grounds and the castle as part of your lodging at no extra cost and you are there before it gets busy. In addition, your drive to various points on the peninsula is shorter than staying in Dunedin and the views are definitely way better at the Castle. The breakfast each morning was included but it was just ok. The service was slow and the food was just average. We did not do the dinner as we did not see anything on the menu we liked. However, not eating dinner at the castle leaves you with limited options if you dont want to drive over to Dunedin. We chose to drive over to Dunedin and that was a good choice as there are a lot of dinner options in town. The rooms in the castle are moderate in size but they are clean and have a decent sized bathroom. The view out the window of our room was great as you could see the bay, Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula. The grounds are well kept with all kinds of plants, trees and flowers so they are lovely to just walk around and see the many birds attracted to the cover. We saw a lot of Tui and other birds in the gardens. From the castle you can take drives to the penguins, albatross and sea lion colonies that call the peninsula home. Just keep in mind that lunch options are limited and some places that do serve lunch are not open every day so check before you head out. We ended up eating at the Albatross center as there was nothing else open that day on the drive over.

One of the best accommodation stays in our holiday history. The rooms are clean, spacious and have old world charm. With a delicious cooked breakfast included in the price you can't go wrong. The staff were very helpful, friendly and polite. Nothing more can be said other than don't miss the opportunity to stay at Lanarch Castle Lodge.

My husband and I stayed at Larnach Castle for one night during a recent tour of New Zealand. We checked in much later than expected, but thanks to the kindness and exceptional customer service displayed by the manager, Peter, we were still able to tour the castle and grounds. Our room in the Lodge was very comfortable with all the amenities we could have possibly needed for our stay, and the breakfast (which was included with our room) exceeded all expectations. The room was pricey, but it was well worth it. I only wish we could have stayed longer!

If you are looking for a place to stay with is different to other standard hotels l believe this place will not disappoint. Right from the time you
drive through the front gate you are looked after in terms of hospitability, food and entertainment.
Your stay includes complimentary access to the castle and all areas of the garden.
Dinner in the evening was great with an opportunity to catch up with other guests.
Breakfast was also very delcious and big.
Strongly recommend this place.

Stayed for a couple of nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The room was very clean and tidy, we really like the decor taking into account the connection with the castle. The views from the room were stunning and had a really big balcony. Breakfast is in an old converted stable, which was really nice and you can have dinner in the castle, which we did on the second night. Depending on how many guests they have wanting dinner they have a couple of rooms to use. The food was very nice and you get to meet other guest, as they place you all on one table. It’s a great way to meet new people. The waiter at the end of the meal gave us a brief history of the castle. As part of your stay, they provide you with free access to the castle. It is a drive out of Dunedin on some windy roads but for me this place to stay in Dunedin and would certainly go back.

We stayed at Larnach Castle Lodge for one night in the lovely 'Sea' room with restful blue surroundings, two windows with spectacular views over the harbour. Trish made sure we were settled in and left us to walk around the gardens before dark. We had the set dinner in the castle, two tables of ten, white linen and candles, pleasant company and a good meal. Trish did double duty (the castle suffering from a staff shortage after Covid) but her between-courses history of the castle, Larnach, the Barkers, was well done. Our package included an excellent cooked and continental breakfast in the stables, and entry to the castle next day (another helpful staff member doing double duty for check-out and day visitor management). We'd toured before but still spent at least 90 minutes in this beautiful place. Congratulations, and best of luck for a swift recovery when NZ is up and running again.

The mist surrounding the castle gave it an eerie feel that intrigued us as we drove up.
We were warmly greeted and shown our room. The view I am sure would have been spectacular if not for the mist. The room was warm and cosy. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of hot water. I appreciated the Asley & Co shower, hair, and moisturizing products in the bathroom. Heated tiles in bathroom ensured warm feet.
Reading the information boards and walking around inside of the Castle certainly helps you appreciate the history of the castle and the passion required to take on the huge task of renovating it.
Due to Level 2 everyone was seated for dinner at individual tables for each ‘bubble’. The four- course meal with a complimentary drink was enjoyable and the food was very tasty.
The walk back from the Ballroom where we had dinner to our room was fun as the trees, path and lights took on a mysterious sight with even thicker mist or sea fog swirling around.
We got up early to have breakfast with the hope that the mist had gone so we could have a wander around the gardens but unfortunately it was still there. When we checked out at the gift shop, we found some post cards that showed the view with clear skies. They looked great but I preferred the mist.
The staff were all friendly and helpful even when the EFTPS machine decided to ‘go on strike’

The title says it all.

Lovely well appointed room, not huge but big enough. Wonderful view.

Everyone was so nice, Peter was so welcoming. Breakfast in the stables was generous, delicious and was served in an interesting location.

Castle access was included in the price as was Breakfast which when you think about it made the accommodation cost for such a unique place reasonable.

After hours - seeing the castle lit up was beautiful.

We choose not to eat dinner in the castle dining room purely because we don't like chefs choice approach to menus, preferring to drive to town for some Italian at Etrusco, which worked well for us.

Would we stay again - in a heartbeat!

Stayed at LC Stables for the night and the experience was superb. The accommodation is quaint and historic and makes you feel like you were a stable hand back in the day. The dinner was amazing, with the unique dining experience taking part inside the castle. We dined in the Music room and sat at a large table so got to interact and meet other guests. The four courses were huge and so good. Tuna Nicoise salad to start, Pork Belly Entree, Lamb cutlets as a main and an amazing dark chocolate fondant to finish. Left with a belly full and some new friends. My wife twisted her ankle the day before (not at LC) and was unable to make it to the castle for dinner so the staff ran all four courses to her room and made sure she was included and did not miss out. Exceptional staff and experience. Highly recommend.

Incredible location on Otago Peninsula with breathtaking 360degree views. Rooms and en-suites are extremely high standard, breakfasts excellent with great choices - and then there's the castle, which is truly fit for a king. Don't miss out on the evening banquet when you can dine with fellow guests in the music room and then have a privileged late-night tour around this incredible property. A right royal treat!

Hi there, Larnach Castle does not offer a shuttle from the airport to the Castle. However, you can book transport with a local shuttle or taxi company. Shuttle prices between the airport and Dunedin are relatively cheap. We do apologise for this inconvenience and any disappointment. Kind regards, Reid | Marketing Support | Larnach Castle

Hi Victoria, Larnach Castle offers the unique option of dining in the Castle for all accommodation guests. We also have a Ballroom Cafe on site open between 9:30am and 4:00pm. You can find information on both of these things on the website under "Accommodation" > "Dinner in the Castle". Kind regards, Reid | Marketing Support | Larnach Castle
