Great accommodation option for something a bit different, the rooms have magnificent views look out to the water, we found the location was great for the activities we had planned on the peninsula, the dinner meal was outstanding and breakfast had a lot of delicious options which you are in the stables it was a truely unique experience. Bonus was being able to look around the castle and beat the crowds
We enjoyed a deal of accommodation, dinner and breakfast. We had a lovely corner room (loved the heated bathroom floor!!!) but the weather gods did not play ball for us to enjoy the view. The dinner was enjoyed by 5 couples and was a surprise as it was determined by what the chef chose to serve. However I enjoyed what we were served. Breakfast was served in the Stables and I chose the Chacuterei platter, un unusual breakfast offering, but nonetheless enjoyed. Totally enjoyed touring the castle by myself. I just love all the old furniture and furnishings. Weather again precluded a garden walk, but what I was able to see it was glorious.
Due to fog,the view was very limited, them's the breaks. Lovely comfortable room, great bathroom with heated floor and service with a smile. Needs a bit of TLC here & there, but still an Iconic place to stay.
We stayed 2 nights in the Lodge recently (lucky enough to be there during a snow storm ,so you can imagine the beautiful photos we got) Our room was fabulous, lovely comfortable bed, great shower with luxurious toiletries, cozy and quiet. The breakfast both mornings was outstanding and far more than we expected. We opted to have the Trust the Chef, 4 course dinner in the castle on the second night. Dinner was lovely (especially the seafood chowder to start), and we enjoyed talking to the other guests. It may me sad to make this one complaint... two dinner guests (married couple) bought their two year old daughter to the dinner, and they were seated right next to us. The wee girl had a cold, so we thought it was highly inappropriate in these covid times... let alone the fact that she should have been in bed by 8pm, especially as she was sick. We're parents too, but I think there's a time and place for children at events like this, we wouldn't have even considered taking our kids to this dinner Could you please consider making these dinners for 18 plus adults only ?…
My large room had a large window with the most wonderful views of Otago Harbour- could watch views from window for ages! Room was warm and smart tiiled bathroom had underfloor heating. Wardrobe door and bedhead were made from an old cart from Larnach era. Included in tariff is breakfast in stables and menu choice extensive and food delicious. As was dinner the night before. Tariff also included audio tour of castle which was fascinating. The Barker family has managed to buy back many artefacts from castle previously sold and castle now in great condition. You could spend all day exploring castle and gardens.
