Detailed Reviews
This lovingly & beautifufly restored "mansion" is perfect, in every way. It is one of the most immaculately clean B & B's I have ever stayed in. It is beautifully decorated with antiques, super-large King beds, & includes a lovely breakfast, in the dining room. The owners could not be more pleasant. I HIGHLY recommend this lodge (B & B) if you are in the Dunedin area.

This fall our family (my son, his wife and myself) took a 3 week bucket list trip to Australia and New Zealand. While in Dunedin we stayed 2 nights at the Fletcher Lodge. Our hostess, Ewa showed us around and let us pick our rooms. As soon as we got to the Edinburgh Suite I set my bag down and announced, "this is my room!"
The Edinburgh suite was beautiful, with a large sleigh bed, period furniture and art work and tapestries on the wall. I was happy to see that there was an ironing board and iron.. There was a charming little balcony through the glass doors.
There was a lovely old sideboard with a decanter of port and a display of fresh fruit to enjoy. The large bathroom was luxury itself, a heated floor, a large, claw foot soaking tub, a separate shower unit, a large stained glass window with emblems of Scotland and Poland, and a pretty display of toiletries to use.
. The historic building is lovingly kept up and spotlessly clean. The attention to detail is remarkable. Every night there was a small piece of gourmet chocolate on the turned down bed and a small stoppered glass bottle of water and a glass on the bedside table .
Our host and hostess went out of their way to be helpful, making dinner reservations for us, cooking breakfast the way we liked it, even giving me a little plastic ball that could clip to my purse, containing a rain poncho because I was going on an excursion and it was raining.. I highly recommend this B and B.

We stayed here on 17/12. Ewa is such a friendly and lovely host that she will make you feel very much welcome. We stayed at the top floor with two rooms and a living area all to ourselves. Wonderful place and cozy rooms. I love the location of the lodge as it is near to town. Ewa would recommend you what to do in town and where to park too ! :) Thanks Ewa, for your hospitality !

Everything about Fletcher Lodge is outstanding. The rooms, the property, the dining and sitting rooms, and the wonderfully thoughtful and kind owners. Parking worked well for us as we were able to walk into town and enjoy the restaurants, museums, and parks.

We stayed 1 night & wished we could have stayed longer. Ewa & Keith were wonderful hosts as well as Fletcher. So enjoyed having breakfast in the dining room with Keith as chef! A well appointed historical home.

First impressions of Fletcher Lodge were very positive and simply got better every minute! The gardens, with an elegant circular stairway and water feature; grand entrance and Reception area are everything you would expect of a fine country mansion - but to achieve this in a city setting is a feat in itself. This fine building offers imposing public rooms, and most bedrooms are on the grand scale, although one or two are smaller, offering something for everyone (we got a tour!). There are also two apartments with two bedrooms in each.
We used Fletcher Lodge as a base, and stayed in the Craigard Room on several occasions: a light and airy space overlooking the patio and garden, which has beautiful mahogany furniture and a four poster bed, sumptuous drapes, huge plasma screen TV, and a gorgeous bathroom, with bath and shower. Delightful touches, such as towels tied with ribbon and fluffy bathrobes add a luxurious touch, and the free WiFi and many little extras helped to make this a real home from home. We also had the memorable Edinburgh Suite on one occasion, which was a truly luxurious experience (all of the above but more so – with oodles of space and a balcony!)
The public rooms include a wood-panelled guest sitting room with ornate stained glass roundels in the windows, an open fire and sherry for an aperitif; a dining room with ornate furniture, shining silverware, opulent crockery and tableware; and grand hallways, with a stunning, ancient suit of armour standing guard over the magnificent staircase.
Breakfast is an event, with delightfully presented fruits, cereals and fruit juices, along with perfectly cooked croissants and choice of cooked dish and hot beverage.
Ewa and Keith are the perfect hosts: their knowledge of Dunedin, Otago and the wider New Zealand being encyclopaedic. They went out of their way to make our stay a real treat in so many ways (even looking after our excess luggage while we went off elsewhere!), and we are counting the days till our next visit.

When I think of our stay at Fletcher Lodge I only see stars and definitely five of them. We were met in the driveway by our cordial and ever so helpful hosts Ewa and Keith. Ewa showed us to one of the most magnificent bedroom suites we’ve every stayed in. To say it was five star, furnished and appointed to the extreme, would be selling in short. It was a gorgeous, huge room with private balcony and large, sunny windows. Fletcher Lodge is a beautifully restored 1924 residence that gives you a glimpse into New Zealand’s heritage. Every detail, from the furnishings to the fine china on which our gourmet breakfast was served, was meticulously observed. We unfortunately had to depart very early our last morning at the Lodge and missed the regular breakfast provided. Ewa kindly packed for us a breakfast take away for our journey west. This was so kind and beyond the call of duty. If you truly want a superb accommodation experience and, if you enjoy the finer pleasures of life, we implore you to book with Fletcher Lodge. You deserve only the very best. Roger & Lenny stayed at Fletcher Lodge, Dec. 5-6, 2011.

We were coming to the end of a holiday when we stayed here and had stayed at a really good places, so had got quite choosy. However this place was absolutely charming. It is owned by an English and Polish couple (not Portuguese as another reviewer stated). Ewa was in Poland to celebrate her mother’s 90th birthday, so their son some came down from Wellington to help. Both father and son were very very interesting and helpful. Our room was very nice and breakfast was excellent. There is free Internet access.
They have a file of recommended restaurants and made reservations for us. We stayed three nights and the three restaurants they recommended were excellent.
I cannot give this an excellent rating for the following reason. I am disabled and have difficulty with steps, therefore a groundfloor room was requested everywhere. We had a groundfloor room here. But there are two sets of steps with nothing to grab hold of to be able to access the property. To access the property I needed help from 2 people – my husband and the owners son. They were very helpful and there was never any problem, but we were not informed about this access problem and we should have been, so we could make the decision whether to come or not.The owners were awate of my mobility problem before we came.

Beautiful house and rooms. If you are in Dunedin
This is the place to stay as they make you feel right at home with their caring ways . Ewa booked a cab for a tour around town with very little notice. The breakfast was made to order and just wonderful. We must come back again!

Fletcher Lodge owners Keith and Ewa are wonderful hosts! The lodge is a beautifully renovated home built by one of Dunedin’s industrial giants of a bygone era. The gardens are beautiful and the downtown Octagon a short walk down the hill. We arrived for our three night stay and were immediately shown to our first floor room across the hall from the very nicely appointed guest sitting area. Breakfasts are nicely prepared and the dining room - with gas fireplace - warms both the space and spirit encouraging good conversation with fellow guests. We highly recommend Fletcher Lodge as a great base for exploring Dunedin and the captivating surrounding area.
