Dear Anna & Peter, you have created such a wonderful place: having delicious organic breakfast we watched birds like the tui taking a bath nearby, loved listening to the birdsong. It is the perfect spot for everybody who is addicted to nature, birds and flowers. We loved talking to you, about your passion for this beautiful garden and exchanging travel experiences. Our recommendation: stay as long as possible- we spent only three nights! Sabine &Roger

Absolutely marvelous place to stay. Book for a week, you won't regret it. We stayed 3 nights and desperately wanted to stay longer. Not only are the views stunning, but the cottage itself is so very charming. We stayed during really cold winter nights and the fireplace kept the whole cottage warm -- and it was so romantic. We loved cooking in the perfect little kitchen that had all the amenities we could hope for, and all very high quality- including a gas stove! There was even a fancy espresso machine but that's way above our capabilities! There was also a plunger coffee maker which is more our speed. Anna provided us with eggs, butter, incredible jams, fresh milk, homemade muesli, artisan bread, homemade yogurt -- it was a feast. She even went above and beyond and provided my husband Tim with gluten free sourdough bread and muesli. And that bread was so delicious I ended up eating it myself. Tim said it was the best gluten free bread he's ever had. The bedroom is upstairs in a spacious loft with its own balcony to the outdoors. Bed is huge and comfortable and linens are extra luxurious. The Bathroom is lovely too, very modern. And the shower is a highlight. You can slide open the door on the other side of the shower and you are showering outside! I found the whole place immaculately clean, and I am very picky. There are several decks for sipping wine or having breakfast. We had the most glorious time. The photos of this haven aren't enough, it's even better in person. AND there's a breathtaking garden surrounding you as well. …

From the minute the hosts Anna and Peter greeted us, we were treated to unimaginable beauty and luxury at the Retreat. They have thought of everything from a fully-equipped kitchen to plush linens and a comfy bed to organic and handmade breakfast foods. One can easily sit outside on the terrace and watch the tui birds in the bird feeder, go for walks in the nature around the Retreat or sit by the fire on the designer furniture. The neighboring Allan's Beach has sea lions and penguin-viewing is not far away, either. Their garden is amazing and they graciously offer up herbs and vegetables for your dinner preparations! Anna's and Peter´s hospitality makes this a perfect getaway while being only 30 minutes from Dunedin.

I loved our stay at the Hereweka Garden Retreat house. It was a small treasure and the most unique place we stayed in our month-long tour of the south island. The location is fabulous! It is quiet, private, and the night skies are amazing. I enjoyed morning walls on the treks around the property. The obvious care Anna & Peter have put into the landscape has made the treks themselves a worthy destination. Allen's beach is a small jewel as well.

We stayed at the Hereweka Garden Retreat for 3 nights and had our wedding ceremony here. Thanks Anna and Peter very much again for kindly allowing us to use the garden as our wedding venue and for joining our wedding lunch. They are very helpful and friendly and are very knowledgeable about plants and sustainability :-). The garden is just stunning, and we could not describe how beautiful it is. You can also see the full view of the Harbour Corn and hear the beautiful bird songs in the garden. All of our wedding guests and we really enjoyed the garden and some of them have told us that they will stay at the Retreat in the near future :-). The accommodation was spacious and warm, and the bed was very tidy, clean, and comfortable. We particularly liked the pillows and quilt as well. Overall we are EXTREMELY satisfied with the stay and garden and look forward to the next stay. Many thanks, Jimmy and Min from Auckland :-)…

Staying at Hereweka retreat was so special to celebrate our anniversary. Set among the bush, the lodge was very comfortable, warm and had all the amenities we could have wished for. Thoroughly enjoyed the organic and generous breakfasts. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly with wonderful communication throughout. Garden and bush walks with an abundance of native bird life, we are certainly planning to return when we are able to.

Me and my partner just stayed at the hereweka garden retreat for 5 fantastic days and wished it never had to end! The property is absolutely gorgeous surrounded by an array of native and exotic plants, with a fantastic view of the surrounding landscapes. Constantly serenaded by the song of native birds. And the accomodation itself was perfectly cute and cosy, would recommend for anybody wanting to get away into nature and see Dunedin and it’s surrounding areas, also an easy 20 minute drive to downtown to access anything you may need. Would love to return sooner than later, massive thanks to Peter and Anna for being wonderful hosts as well, Cheers! Caleb and Molly.

We stayed at the Hereweka Garden retreat for a week and are already planning a return visit. This is one of the loveliest places we have stayed anywhere in the world. The house is beautifully appointed and comfortable. We loved the organic breakfast foods and picking salad ingredients from the planter box. The views from the house are stunning. We particularly enjoyed watching tuis bathe in the bird bath. And there is lots to explore in the Hereweka garden and surrounding landscape. This is a special place that weaves a certain magic.

We had a short one night stay there courtesy of a gift and what a wonderful gift. We loved being within 45 minutes of home yet feeling like we were a million miles away in this serene location with the birds singing. We were able to watch a tui do circuits all evening long! Anna was very welcoming and we had a lovely meal and encounter with Dany. The breakfast food was delicious. We were able to go for a bike ride and a short walk. With better weather, we would have done a lot more walking as there were many choices. The accommodation was comfortable and warm and we were able to just sit, relax and read a book (not a common feat for us!). This is easily a place we would be happy to return to.
