Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

The accommodation is lovely, stained glass windows, spacious interior with everything we needed as 3 sisters staying the night together.
However, we didn’t feel safe with an open front door that wasn’t able to be closed overnight, & very poor lighting in the hallway. Although our door to apartment locked it was only push button with no chain and with access from the street felt unsafe. I rang the manager because I thought the door may have been recently broken, he was very rude and condescending telling me ‘bad luck love’ when I said it made us feel unsafe.
I wouldn’t stay here again or recommend for this reason. New management needed!

I have never stayed in a church before - what a creative idea! We had a great stay, very clean, very stylish and creative with the space. Cozy and warm. If you really need ventilation or windows which open to the outside, this might not be the place for you, but we loved it. Parking was not a problem for us, a space was reserved for us.

Fabulous apartments 3 mins walk to The Octagon and in a quiet street. We stayed in the 2 bedroom, 2 storied apt and it was beautiful. Gorgeous large bathrooms, modern decor and fully equipped with absolutely everything you could need. Very comfortable beds, spotlessly clean.
It was very quiet except a rubbish truck emptied some bins around 6 am.
The architect did a top notch job of keeping and incorporating elements of the original church and creating great accommodation.
We got an allocated car park with our apt but I dont think it would be hard to get street parking close by

Like a the previous review, The Chapel promised so much but didn’t not deliver. Great location and it was much quieter than we expected In spite of it being a rugby weekend. We were in downstairs 3 bed Apt, and it was very tired and needs too many repairs to list. It’s just changed hands so I would be hoping for a renovation of this unit, or a big drop in the price.

Chapel Apartments are contained within a re-developed historic church near The Octagon. The location is excellent and most places of interest in this fine city can be reached on foot. The apartments are modern in design and some care has been taken to create a 'boutique' feel. Our apartment was well equipped and reasonably clean. It was on two levels with two bedrooms downstairs (with en-suite), and a spacious open plan living/ kitchen area on the upper level.
We never met Jon, the owner/manager, although there was evidence that he seemed to be in attendance at times. Our welcome to the apartment was via a written message on a chalkboard just inside the front door. Jon had also written the entry code for our apartment. The security aspect of this practice concerned me.
I did speak to Jon regarding a problem we had with the television by telephone and he organised an 'engineer' to call me and try and resolve the problem. The problem was not resolved by either Jon or the engineer and neither contacted me again about the problem.
Jon provides an evaluation form for visitors at the end of their stay, but seems to only like positive comments. He phoned me at Dunedin Airport to ask me to clarify my less than positive observations and found it difficult to accept my concerns. Jon's attitude was not that of someone professionally involved in the tourist trade and his narrow view would not encourage me to stay here again.
There are some really good things to do and see in Dunedin and a visit is well worth it. The Chinese Garden is fabulous, Speights Brewery Tour was terrific, Settlers Museum is superb, and the Botanical Gardens are magnificent. The Cadbury's Tour was not so impressive.

Arrived at Chapel apartments to find our name on board with note Key was in door.
Fantastically central city position. Cosy & clean. Well appointed. As it was 25th April easy walk to Dawn Parade. Comfortable bed & pillows. Overall we felt it was a great choice.

While it looks great on paper, our experience has been of poor maintenance, poor service, and extremely poor attitude. We spent two nights in apartment nr 2, despite what was advertised we had not Internet connection. The manager dealt with the issue in an extremely unpleasant way, first saying they were working on it, then hanging up on us, then promising a discount, but never giving it, bombarding us with calls, texts and emails for a while, and ultimately not fixing the issue anyway. No surprise as the problem is not the network quality in Dunedin, but the church stone walls that are too thick for the signal to go through. Overall, you could see that the place was great five years ago, but has been poorly maintained, the paint was pealing from the walls on the first floor, the carpets were threadbare, the electronics did not work, etc. We do not recommend.

Room Tip: Avoid the apartment n°2 if you want wifi... Ask for one of the front apartment.

Two nights with family. Our three-bedroom apartment was very spacious with full kitchen, dining table and laundry, huge TV, and excellent WiFi. Large bedrooms, one with ensuite, and plenty of heating for winter visits. Loved the big bath. Being on Moray Place we were right in the middle of town so a short stroll to the big shopping mall on George Street, the public art gallery, Cadbury’s, and more than a dozen restaurants. (Strongly recommend Vault 21 on The Octagon if you are into Asian-fusion food). Why do I call Cathedral Apartments “quirky”? Because converting a church into apartments has resulted in interesting legacy architecture – steepled doors and windows (and curtains) and very high ceilings.

Our family stayed at this property in June and enjoyed it. The furnishings were nice and it was great having a full kitchen. It was well appointed and the view lovely. One of the bedroom's is on the bottom floor which may not suit a family with very young children but our teenager loved it.
The free wi-fi was a nice inclusion.

As we arrived on an evening flight it would have been nice if the heating had been put on prior to our arrival - however once we had switched everything on the place warmed up nicely.

The location was fine for us as we had a car but as it was a short drive to the main part of Dunedin may not suit those without their own vehicle

Everything was perfect. Clean, tidy, spacious and a friendly owner. Close to the centre of town. Cooking facilities make it attractive. Without hesitation it would be the first place we would book when we return again to Dunedin.
