Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed 2 weeks with daughter while she was recovering from an operation. This family run motel could not have been nicer. Clean spacious, warm rooms. All amenities. 2 guest laundries, coin operated. Friendly staff. Couldn't have been more helpful. Free wifi. Works great. 5 minutes walk through the Botanic Gardens to New World, chemist, takeaways.

Great, friendly hosts. Rick was very kind and really welcoming. The room is clean, tidy, updated and spacious. Close to town, about a 20 minute walk. Good off-street parking. Would have given 5 stars if it had SKY TV. Very happy to recommend to anyone.

Stayed with our 3 children twice, on way to Te Anau & on way back - excellent location, Large rooms with plenty space. The towels are beautiful quality & beds were very comfy. Didn’t hear any traffic noise at night even though close to road, also just one street over is an area of restaurants & takeaway places (including the #1 TripAdvisor rated Indian restaurant in Dunedin !) .. we got fish n chips for kids & Indian for us - were able to walk there to collect it, very handy location. The family that own the motel are very helpful & friendly & it’s lively to have tea, plunger coffee, hot choc & milk etc all in room :) We’ll be back !

We were upgraded on arrival and were welcomed by a very friendly and helpful lady who went out of her way to assist in enabling us to clean our rental car, and with advice on where to eat. The room was very spacious and reasonably priced.

Booked the cheapest studio room and it was still very spacious, clean, tidy and had everything we needed. The staff were very friendly and offered advice on things to try and see while staying in Dunedin. Even though we were right on what looked like a main road, the room was very quiet, we did not hear road noise at all and we were only 1 room from the front. Will definitely stay here again if and when we get back to Dunedin.

Great service, we had a large group attend a conference and this accommodation was clean and the service was excellent. We stayed in a studio apartment, this was well equipped. The single bed was a little springy, but my roommate said the queen bed was very comfy. Would def stay again

My wife and I stayed here in order to watch a large concert. Luckily we had a unit at the back away from the main road so it was nice and quiet or sort of. Unfortunately there were some very rude ignorant people staying below us who came back around 3am and made loud noises for the rest of the night. Unfortunately the office staff weren’t around when we left so we couldn’t inform them.

We arrived early but despite this we were able to check in straightaway. Upon check in we also found out we had been upgraded for free! This was a great start to our stay! The unit was tidy, warm and very comfortable. The staff on check in and check out were super friendly and helpful. My son lives 50m down the road and this is perfect when visiting him while he’s in Dunedin studying at Otago University. This is a place with real old style customer service that was a real pleasure to receive as you don’t come across it very often anymore these days. Highly recommend this motel! Thank you so much for your amazing hospitality :)

This motel has certainly seen better days, but that said, the room was very comfortable, wifi worked and was fast, the manager could not do enough for us, room servicing was really excellent, local recommendations were brilliant. All in all, by coming to the Commodore, we accidentally improved our stay in Dunedin quite considerably. Thanks to all concerned. By the way, any road noise mentioned in some other reviews, really dies down at night, and does not return until it is almost time to rise and shine.

Excellent Motel, the beds are fantastic, shower is moderish, with a shower dome, handily located on the oneway system, very friendly management team, and a good price. We stayed one night, my wife and I and it is the first time we have slept in a bed we would love to take home. Subway is right next door as well, I found it almost perfect.
