Detailed Reviews
Booked the cheapest studio room and it was still very spacious, clean, tidy and had everything we needed. The staff were very friendly and offered advice on things to try and see while staying in Dunedin. Even though we were right on what looked like a main road, the room was very quiet, we did not hear road noise at all and we were only 1 room from the front. Will definitely stay here again if and when we get back to Dunedin.

Stayed 2 weeks with daughter while she was recovering from an operation. This family run motel could not have been nicer.
Clean spacious, warm rooms. All amenities. 2 guest laundries, coin operated.
Friendly staff. Couldn't have been more helpful.
Free wifi. Works great.
5 minutes walk through the Botanic Gardens to New World, chemist, takeaways.

Great, friendly hosts. Rick was very kind and really welcoming. The room is clean, tidy, updated and spacious. Close to town, about a 20 minute walk. Good off-street parking. Would have given 5 stars if it had SKY TV. Very happy to recommend to anyone.

We stayed in the Family apartment for 2 nights...we had Nana, and kids in tow...Perfect as Nana was down 1 end with her own room and bathroom and we had our own room and bathroom on the other side of the apartment, with kitchen lounge etc in the middle. The place was spotless, kitchen was really well set up. Owners were very friendly and accommodating, and were happy for us to have a late check out as we had an afternoon flight. great location near the botannical gardens, not far from University, and close to lots of food options. Laundry downstairs and $1 for washing machine, decent size load and $2for dryer, and we made use of the clothes rack, left in our room which got lots of lovely sun. Well priced, great value for money.. We will be back for sure.

We had a party of 7 and stayed in the studio suite on the 3rd floor. No elevators. Walked 3 flights of stairs with all my bags!!! Light bulb in bathroom kept blowing. Toilet flush did not work. Dish washer kept breaking down. Dryer was a RIP OFF$$$$ at $2/10 mins!!!! You'll be broke coz the dryer vent is probably all plugged up too. Housekeeping was a laugh. Did not even clear the garbage or vacuum the rooms. High speed internet wasn't even free after all we paid for the room. AVOID AT ALL COST.

My wife and I stayed here in order to watch a large concert. Luckily we had a unit at the back away from the main road so it was nice and quiet or sort of. Unfortunately there were some very rude ignorant people staying below us who came back around 3am and made loud noises for the rest of the night. Unfortunately the office staff weren’t around when we left so we couldn’t inform them.

Chose this motel as a result of the reviews, bad mistake. The room was tiny you could barely walk around the bed. Decor was faded and the general appearance was tired. The bed was very average. There were clearly better rooms within the place but we clearly got the bum one. To be blunt it was well over priced for what it was. On the plus side it had free Internet, reasonable tv and channels and access to a large dvd library, and the lady on the desk was very nice. Definitely would not stay again.

My family has literally travelled a few times round the world, except for Africa. So we are somewhat jaded and hence I dislike rating hotels/motels. This place is firmly one of the best we have ever stayed in; its service is comparable to any 5-star hotel in Europe, USA or Asia. Let me list the reasons why you should stay here :
1) Rick and Nicola really went out of their way to make sure that guests were well taken care of. Their warmth and sincerity were very heart-warming.
2) We stayed in a 1-bedroom apartment, roomy enough for the 4 of us; and my son is a big strapping fellow. It was spacious, very clean, newly renovated, extremely well-lit, not gloomy like most motels and it was the only place we stayed that has a DISHWASHER !!!! In fact, it was obvious that much thought has been given to every possible imaginable comfort for the guests. Commodore Dunedin somewhat reminds me of the Seoul Sheraton with its superb amenities. It was definitely the best motel in our 2-week NZ trip :-)
3) Within walking distance of eating places, shops and supermarket.
4) My teenagers like the free DVDs and the wifi.
5) Very quiet, as it is on a side street. No traffic noise.

Good place to stay, about 20 mins walk into city, at least it is flat walk! We had studio room, so not that large but very comfortable, great bathroom, mwave, kettle, toaster etc, comfy bed and room was at back which very much reduced street noise. Would recommend stay here.

This is our home when staying in Dunedin. I have brought my family here also when they have been visiting from Australia. Great facilities. Not far from anything. Ease with parking, even our huge truck.
