Detailed Reviews
I spent one night at Ibis Christchurch on the way to Queenstown and another night returning from Queenstown about a week later. On both visits, I was fortunate to be served by the same two staff, Sovi and Daniel, who provided excellent front office service. On the return visit, the lobby was a sea of guests waiting to do a group check-in and the 2 of them were cool and unfazed. Sovi was particularly helpful and helped me to check in quickly. On both occasions, he gave me excellent suggestions on restaurants and places to visit, and his suggestions of restaurants were spot on.
This is an economy hotel located in a really central and excellent location and, so within walking distance to many great restaurants. For this reason, I did not eat at the hotel restaurant and prefer to explore different restaurants/cafes for my meals. This excellent location allowed me to make a quick trip to the supermarket before they close for the night and to the pharmacy before leaving for the airport in the morning.
I was given a room on the 8th floor on both occasions and this is the highest floor of the hotel. As it is in the central location, I did not expect great views from the room and there wasn't, as there were buildings all round, though not taller than the hotel. The rooms were clean, neat with all the amenities like kettle, ironing board, packets of coffee and tea, etc., although there were only basic amenities in the bathroom. I thought for this category of hotel, the size of the room was adequate. What I wanted was a clean room/bathroom, quiet enivronment for a good night sleep and a comfortable bed. I had all these. There was no loud noise from the street although my room faced the road.
So I am very happy with this hotel and will certainly return to stay there if I visit Christchurch again!

As the title states, this hotel has a great central location in Christchurch which is essentially in walking distance to anywhere that you might wish to go. We used it as a base to re-explore the city, and it was ideally located in close proximity to the amenities that we needed to access. The room itself was tidy and maintained to a high standard. Special thanks also for the crew allowing us to stow our suitcases both before and after check-in/out - definitely makes the decision to use Ibis again a certainty.

Called ahead to see if check in was possible early. Excellent service by the young lady on the phone, quickly found my booking and confirmed my room as available and it would not be a problem checking in early (4 hours early).
Then on arrival parking for the rental wasn’t an issue either. The poor young man on reception was like a one armed paper hanger, sorting a IT issue while speaking with a customer on the phone and apologising to me for the 2 minute delay in him getting to check me in!!
The room
Was well detour and appointed with the usual tea and coffee. Extra pillows and blankets (not needed).
Daily house keeping is available, however you can decline it by putting out the Do Not Disturb sign. But to ensure that’s what you meant they leave a note in your door offering to return if required. Great service.

Had to hold my nose. Too tired to move rooms just shut the door. Air conditioning may not work - I couldn’t figure it out the panel on wall which had no power. Gave up cool night so not crucial. TV HDMI input looked rubbishy ( very old tv) so no watching Netflix going to bed. Carpet not overly clean. Shower small and low head location( have to crouch to do hair) Breakfast cost more if you don’t Pre book ($25 vs $20). No parking around hotel but basement self park for $25 is reasonable. Two stars for the nice front desk staff. Don’t think I’ll stay again until they refurbish.

Hello Gary Thank you for the candid and detailed review. The aircon should always work in every room. any maintenance issue reported to the hotel team is address quickly so i urge you to allow us the opportunity to fix the fault while at the hotel. I'm not sure what a rubbishy HDMI looks like but i can assure you all the HDMI ports are in working order in the rooms. I hope one day you give us the chance to win back your trust

The hotel has a central location within walking distance from the hop on hop off tram, cathedral square and new regent street. The reasons for two stars rating are the small claustrophobic room with a tiny bathroom, and uncomfortable beds that are on wheels!! Luckily we only spent one night. If I visit Christchurch again I will look for another accommodation.

Hello WRashed Thank you very much for your candid review of your recent stay at our hotel. We are an economy hotel which of course is not as large and luxurious as other hotels but we like to think we make up for our basic hotel with amazing staff and service. I appreciate your sharing your thoughts, it is my hope that you will give us the opportunity to better redeem ourselves in the near future.

My husband had a cardiac arrest in Christchurch, and while he was in Christchurch ICU I stayed at the Ibis. The staff were exceptionally kind, helpful and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble. My room was spacious, the bed comfortable, the restaurant food (dinner and breakfast) was tasty and not too expensive. My grateful thanks to everyone at the Ibis for their efficiency and thoughtfulness. Our next visit will be even better!

Our stay at the Ibis in Christchurch was pleasant and relaxing. We were checked in by Kely, a young Brazillian woman who was friendly, helpful and very efficient. Our room was comfortable, and the walk-in shower was excellent. The hotel had been closed for some months and the restaurant and bar has yet to reopen, but we were able to walk across to the Novotel if we wished. The central location makes the Ibis a great place to stay, with parking in the basement for a fee of $25 per night. We'll happily return!

We have stayed at Ibis Chch many times since it opened around 2008 and always found staff hospitable, our simple room, clean and comfortable and meals (including very good breakfasts) more than adequate although on this visit we noticed the menu had been simplified, probably because Covid-19 has so affected travel ad tourism. Ideally located next to Cathedral Square, within easy walking of main shopping precinct and wonderful Oxford Tce eateries, this may not measure up to four or five star but it suits us extremely well for pricing, a good bed (very important), location, a bar plus restaurant and also a guests laundry which is most helpful. We'll be back next year.

Happy staff
Very clean laundry and affordable - 4 washing machines and 4 dryers so there shouldn't be anyone stopping you doing laundry when you want to do it.
Very comfortable bed and good sized rooms I wasn't frustrated with anything at all.
Literally 10 minutes walk to the Botanic gardens and right on the door step of some excellent Restaurants and Riverside complex and the best Book store Scorpio that I have been in for a long time.
You can't go wrong with this place.

We have stayed at Ibis hotels in Rotorua and London but this was the best of the three. Right in the middle of the city near to the fantastic new bus station and 2 minute walk from Cathedral Square and the Riverside cafe/restaurant district. Excellent value for money, very comfy king sized bed, shower pressure was awesome and lovely big bath towels. Staff were helpful and the room was very dark and quiet. We are Accor members so did not need to pay extra for wifi (which was strong and could be used on up to 5 devices).
