We have been to Christchurch five times in as many months due to a family member terminally ill, and wished we'd found this motel at the beginning of our stays in Christchurch.
We stayed here last week for four nights, and this weekend for three nights.
The unit we had both times was unit 8, due to me requesting it on our second stay here.
When we checked in the second time, the lady at reception, handed me our room key straight away, she didn't need to ask me my name.
That is good PR.
The room was very clean and the lady at reception was very friendly and obliging.
The unit was quite large. In the lounge/bedroom there was a wardrobe, two seater couch, an armchair and table and two chairs.
The bed was a king and that was really comfortable.
The bathroom was also a good size.
Only faults, one of which is quite common in motels, the only mirror is in the bathroom, if there was one on the wardrobe door or a wall I could have put my makeup on in lounge leaving husband to use the bathroom sooner.
The carparks could be numbered so you could park outside your unit, which helps when you have knee trouble.
The basin in the bathroom slopes away from the plug hole, so there is always water in the sink which really annoyed me.
The iron and ironing board, were a bit rickety, just cheapies. They worked OK, but the ironing board was very wobbly.
As I said I would stay here again, if we were in Christchurch.
Thanks Salerno management and staff for a job very well done.

With a great welcome and chocolate, we were shown to our suite. The room was large with good kitchen facilities, generous toiletries and very generous towelling! You also have the choice to have your suite serviced or not, by use if a notice in the window so you are not disturbed.

Bed comfortable, great shower and spa. Very clean throughout.

The lady at the front desk was also extremely helpful. She offered not only washing powder but softener and laundry sanitizer too! Great to get sorted out before we completed our travels.

Well situated for the town and tourist experiences and info.

We will be back!

Came across this at last minute after booking the wrong week for another motel.
Last one available on a Friday.
Can’t fault the cleanliness or helpful receptionist.

We had the disability room which was very spacious.
Small kitchenette but toaster etc way to high up for anyone in a wheel chair.

Could do with a few hooks to hang toilet bag or clothes in the bathroom but otherwise excellent.

Many thanks

So I stayed here with my husband for 2 nights. All was wonderful apart from being woken up at 3am by another couple staying. It was a warm night and we left the windows slightly open. To then be woken up by the strong smell of marijuana coming from the next room. I rang the desk to inform them and there was no answer. When I checked out the next morning I tried to inform the manager about it and they just shrugged it off. Other than that it was a nice clean place to stay.

I booked a 2 bedroom "Luxury Suite" at Salerno for 3 nights and was so disgusted that we left after 2 nights (without any refund) and continued our stay elsewhere.
The website advertised full in room laundry facilities and we only had a washing machine that was too filthy to use - when I complained the first time I was told to reread the instructions as it was a washer/dryer. The following day I was left a note telling me I could use the guest laundry instead and given a sheet of Wi-Fi vouchers - although our room was meant to have free Wi-Fi? The furniture in the lounge was so worn and dirty the arms of the (red) couch were black. 1 room only had 2 channels and the lounge TV had only half the channels listed in the book and not in the order they said. The entire suite was dirty and had not even been vacuumed prior to our arrival. It was certainly not worthy of the 5 stars it boasts.
When I complained to management they told me there was nothing that could be done as I had already paid in full when I arrived and "the man" who could give refunds was away for the week.
We had arrived late on the first night and had commitments for the next day and into the evening, otherwise we would have left sooner. I would never go back to Salerno.

We are truly disgusted by this rave review, look through all our reviews on tripadvisor, most of guests left us very fair comments, however this one is absolutely dishonest. The reason behind that was this guest had a plan change and they wanted check out early without any penalty while they knew the policy was there, in order to get away with that they started to picking us for the "filthy washing machine" (we clean all our appliance in daily basis). Our manager was very kind and offered them to use our guest laundry for free if they feel not comfortable to use the one in their room, however they insisted they had booked a room with "in room laundry" would not use anything else or they would like their money back. And then our manager offered to swap another new wash machine for them! After that, they started to complain that they only "have 2 TV channels and the lounge TV had only half the channels listed in the book", they would not stay because not enough tv channels for them. Turned out they had no idea of how to operate the TV remote controller!!! Even the freeviews (not include sky channels) has over 20 channels!!! As soon as they asked, our manager went there and showed them how to use it, clearly they did not mention anything at all in their review because we solved all their requests. Regarding our room cleanliness, please refer to our reviews from other guests to be fair, we proud to be one of the 5 stars qualmark quality motels in CHCH and we focus on each part to keep our rooms nice and tidy. We wouldn't mind walk extra mile to provide extra services.

This review has been updated to reflect email from property owner.

My cousin and I stayed here for 2 nights, including Christmas Eve. We arrived at this property at around 8pm, close to closing hours for the office. The person available to check us was very new (as explained by the owner in response to the initial review posting). There were a number of little things mentioned in my initial review that showed the lack of customer service provided by this motel but I've deleted them here since it's all explained by the fact that the employee left in charge was new. I would advise the owner though that while it's admirable to provide learning opportunities for new employees, it shouldn't be done at the expense of the customers' experience.

However, the worst offense -- the reason behind this review -- was that our reservation specifically requested 2 single beds in addition to the sofa bed...but our room contained a queen/king and the sofa bed. So my cousin ended up having to sleep on the sofa bed. If we were going to be using the sofa bed, we would've picked the 2 hotels that topped our list, both of which were cheaper, had better reviews, and were closer to where we got dropped off by Intercity. The only reason we didn't choose those properties were because they didn't offer 2 separate beds. In his email, the owner explained that a large party had checked in the day before us and they'd gotten the last of the rooms with 2 separate beds and also pointed out that during booking they have a disclaimer that says the separate bed rooms are subject to availability. My response to that would be that we made reservations more than 3 months prior to our stay and we also prepaid at that time. So unless the party that checked in before us made reservations before us (I won't harp on whether they'd also prepaid), they should not have been given the last of the 2 bed rooms. Even if that party had made reservations before us, the property had 3 months in which to let us know that they weren't going to be able to provided us with the requested room. It is absolutely unacceptable in this particular situation, even given the explanation, that our requirement wasn't met.

As other reviewers mentioned, there's also no privacy in the room. Or at least it's a tradeoff between privacy and natural light. Our room was on the ground floor so anyone walking by could look into our living room, bedroom, and kitchen.

All in all, not a good experience. Would not stay here again nor would I recommend it.

Thanks for your stay, unfortunately that we did not meet your special request of 2 single beds, because not all the room beds can be split up to 2 singles and this is only subject to the availability (we listed this on all the booking websites), we are motel with limited amount rooms and sometimes we just struggle to meet all the special requests. Unfortunately we had a group people had checked into rooms with 2 single beds the day before you checked in (also they booked these rooms before you guys). We are sorry for any inconvenience that we caused during your stay and your understanding is much appreciated!

Very clean, Comfortable and modern room with everything you need and mine also had a lovely jacuzzi bath! Decent price compared to other others.

It is on a very busy road so you do get some road noise. The advertised free wifi was a large factor in my decision to choose this property over others but it is limited to 200mb and a hassle to keep renewing and if you want it on more than one device you have to pay so that was annoying. It is a good 20 minute walk to most places of interest.

We were repeat guests but found the motel has changed ownership. With that change others have followed like poor range of tea and coffee, no newspaper at the door, cruddy toiletries etc. The studio was overpriced and the road noise intolerable. With no air con, and no fan in the room, if a window was opened it resulted in a sleepless night from heat and road noise. We were rather stunned on check in to be given a piece of paper to write our credit card number on. In all our extensive travels all transactions have been electronic not on paper. My concerns regarding this and the inflated cost of the studio and the wifi charge of $11.50 per day were of little interest to the new owner. The owner stated that the increased cost was to offset his expense in using Booking.Com who we booked through. We will not be repeat business.

Hi, we did have ownership transfer but everything still remains same, same stuff ,better standard, tea and coffee range are good brand from same supplier as last owner, news papers are free on request, the check in paper sheets (asked for the credit card number)are left from the last owner too, we shredded them when guests checked out. Wi-Fi was always $11.5 and it was from the previous owner, nothing to do with the booking.com expenses, however we have started to provide free Wi-Fi now. Regarding the road noise, we have double glazed windows which works perfect. If you stayed here before you would've know that we don't have air-con, as Christchurch is not a very warm city, but fan can be supplied on request with no charge. I hope it makes everything clear and we look forward to seeing everyone come into CHCH and stay with us, we will always to provide best service! Thank you!
